So I got a question.

[ He drags a hand down his face; he's tired and not entirely sure why he has to be the one to ask this. But apparently he has to be the one to ask this because he's worried and people should be informed.

But seriously, this is so far out of his comfort zone that we're in the Andromeda galaxy, so just... give him a second. He's not used to talking about this to the mass public. ]

How many of you've had something shitty from home show up here? [ .... Sigh. Okay. Too vague. Try again.

-- Once again, he does not like this. ] And by something I mean a creature, a being, some fucker you never wanted to see again. Not some person you've decided is the scum of the Earth- [ here's lookin' at you, Ruby. And yes, he means that rather purposefully ] - because i'm not up here to ask you about that chick you didn't like that one time who's made an entrance.

I mean monsters. Shit that does more than go bump in the night. Because if we all start bringing this kinda crap from where we come from, we're gonna have a problem and not nearly enough people are gonna know what to do with it. I mean, just counting what could come outta my own world-- [ grumble grumble. ]

So what I wanna know is if this's happened more than once. We already got enough here to keep track of, I just wanna know if anything that people know more about's followed you here.

The Door. They call it the Door.

[ 'They', Gansey says, by which he means the other people he's met, and also the gods themselves. He has no idea if it even looks like a Door, honestly, but he knows that's the name. ]

So - reading between the lines, here - you're more worried about something that might come from your world, than what's already here, yes?

What should we be watching for?

Honestly? Just about anything. But it doesn't really help much when I say that some of the worst big bads just look like everyone else, does it?

It's when they throw down and turn into nothing but a huge ass mouth with teeth that you know you're dealing with a Leviathan. So we wait for that, or we start spraying everyone down with Borax. [ He's not kidding, that's definitely a possibility he's considering. ]

Leviathan? As in, the sea monster. That's worryingly biblical.

[ And you, sir, just became incredibly interesting to him. Gansey leans forward, thoughtful. ]

You don't know anything about ley lines, do you? This sounds like the kind of thing that belongs on one.

Ah, sure- but without the sea. Where I come from they're God's first monsters, but that's probably a story for a different day.

[ Ahem. ] Ley lines, huh. [ Give him a second to think-- ] Sounds familiar, but i'm not sure. Something to do with lines of supernatural energy, right? Lot of old sacred sites found along 'em?

That's it. Lines of mystical energy that criss-cross the earth. You'd find sacred sites along them because in days gone by, people were more aware of their power. These days it's a different story.

[ A pause. ]

But the kind of creature you're talking about...people speak about demon possession taking place along ley lines, for example.

[ He's amazed he got that right but lord knows he's read his fair share of books on various lore at this point in his life. ] These days people don't see shit, is what you're trying to say.

[ Spend your whole life fighting monsters, you have to wonder how people get by without seeing the same things you do. ]

Though y'know, i'm pretty sure the Leviathan were happy to color outside of the lines. Oldest monsters in the book but some of the most advanced i've ever seen.

[ Gansey winces just a little, because that's all kinds of crude, Dean. But it's also correct, which is why it draws a smile shortly after. ]

People don't see what they're not ready to see. I've felt that myself. It's like your mind has a way of...glossing over the strangeness, and finding an explanation.

Unless you're looking for it.

[ He leans forward, still interested. ]

What do you mean by advanced, though? They come with an agenda?

[ Man, if that's going to make you wince, this conversation is probably going to end up being all manner of agony. But at least he doesn't seem too completely pained by it. ]

Or unless it tries to make you a midnight snack- lot harder to avoid once it gets to that point.

[ But oh boy, here we go. ]

The Leviathan tried to take over all of North America. And probably beyond, I wasn't inside their fucked up little heads. But they're God's oldest creations- predate souls even, and they've had a hell of a long time to figure out what it is they want to do to mankind. The answer is they wanted to eat it. All of it.

[ All things considered, Gansey takes that quite well. ]

It took them thousands of years to decide, and at the end of all that, they settled with dinner?

[ He can’t help feeling disappointed. A creature so old and so grand ought to be more than just a monster.

Apparently not. Sometimes people aren’t more than what they seem. ]

So, creatures older than humans who want to destroy us all. You’re essentially saying that they’re demons, then, yes?

[ Dean just makes a face, one of those 'I KNOW RIGHT' expressions, because that's basically all there is to say about the Leviathan wanting to... take over just to eat people.

It's really more ominous than it sounds.

He swears.

(Sort of.) ]

More like a breed of their own. These guys pre-dated angels. And they don't go down like demons, not even close.

[ Gansey is nowhere near well enough versed in religious mysticism to have this conversation. At least, Christian mysticism; the irony is that he wouldn’t have a problem if we were talking about druids, or ghosts, or natural magic.

He has no idea how closely demons are tied to that. When he goes home he’ll be in for a rude awakening. But that’s for then. ]

Wait, so you know how to take down a demon?

I’m actually not sure you ought to advertise that. There’s a few people here who may not take kindly to it.

[ Oh, boy. Here we go. ]

Demons, ghosts, vamps, werewolves, ghouls-- I know how to take down my fair share, yeah, and i'm not about to start feeling bad about it now.

[ Hey, that was just fair warning. ]

I wasn't advising you to.

There's a creature calling himself an Alcohol Demon here. And there's someone calling himself Lucifer, although he seems quite dignified. I'm just warning you to be careful, that's all.

[ .... he just. Needs a second after Lucifer is mentioned. He's still not over this yet. ]

Yeah, I know Lucifer. The one here doesn't pack the same punch as the one back home did, though.

[ …Just a moment, here. ]

There’s more than one Lucifer.

[ Somehow he hadn’t thought multiple dimensions would apply to the actual Devil. But okay. Maybe they do. ]

I shouldn’t be surprised that you knew him already. How is he different?

[ This is one of those things that usually requires needing 'more than one moment' it's okay. He gets it.

Dean is still shrieking internally over the whole thing, so- y'know. ]

The big guy back home? Not nearly as much of a people person.

So...the one that's here.

Do you think he's an imposter? Or another version of the same Devil?

[ Because Gansey's been wondering about that for some time. He can't really decide which he believes. ]

An imposter? What, do I think he's just a guy who's in desperate need of a padded cell to take care of his devil complex? Nah, i'm pretty sure he's the real thing.

I just-- [ Give him a second. He's really, really conflicted about this and it's immensely hard for him to boil down into a few words. ] I don't think he's made from the same stuff. He's not a chip off the same block, I-

I don't get him.

[ Gansey's shoulder lifts and he nods, while thinking that this was exactly what he'd thought Lucifer might be the first time we talked.

A madman, or the actual Devil. He really hadn't wanted to believe it was the latter.

He had believed it, though. Much as he hadn't wanted to, instinct had told him it was the truth. ]

Well, he's not really how I ever imagined the Devil, either. He's a good deal more affable, for a start. Of course that might just be what he wants us to think.

Sure, that's one way to look at it, but then you've gotta think that the Devil gives enough of a shit to put on a show. Which- the Lucifer I know? Couldn't give less of a rip. It's not his problem to make people believe he's some kinda good guy.

Lucifer doesn't do the sheep's clothing thing, why should he. He's the goddamn Devil.

[ Dean only sounds slightly passionate about this whole thing, because he's frazzled by the thought of it, by the fear that this is exactly what Lucifer is doing, not that he'd have any idea why.

But he's waiting for the other shoe to drop. Because it always does. ]

[ Gansey doesn’t mind the debate. Gansey in fact never minds the debate. He seems quite animated about it. ]

Well, I don’t know. He has a reputation involving serpentine disguises and honeyed words whispered in ears. Not to mention the whole ‘Father of Lies’ business. I thought taking him at face value would be a mistake.

Apparently, I was wrong.

[ And that? That is also an incredibly good point, he's just so used to the Lucifer that he knows, that he's not inclined to think of one who might wrap himself in lies. Especially if it meant buddying up to humanity in the way he's now seen Lucifer do once or twice to him. ]

You know, i'll actually give you that one. Just means that maybe this guy is playing that card. Maybe he's the Lucifer that coined the term.

Maybe. It still doesn't explain how he's different from yours. I suppose that's how alternate worlds work.

[ Actually, the thought that Lucifer doesn't exist outside of that particular trope is somewhat comforting. He can't be all-powerful. ]

Anyway. Here's hoping none of the monsters you're used to manage to make their way here.

If you wanna get real theoretical, or uh- theological, maybe, you can ask yourself how creation itself turned out so goddamn different in two alternate worlds. Because that's a weird one.

[ Because in two worlds were Lucifer exists in both-- yeah, Dean's not expending that much energy thinking about it. Nope. It's just too miserable. ]

But sure yeah, here's hoping.

[ Gansey shrugs. Getting theoretical is his specialty. ]

Well, assuming that there’s something to intelligent design, maybe the Creator had different ideas for how creation might look, and as a result, we have alternate universes.

I can’t imagine what the Church would have to say about that, though.
