ushahin: (Those eyes)

Video| In all my dreams, it's never quite as it seems

[When the video opens up, Ushahin is lying once again inside his bathtub. It's about five o' clock in the morning, so at least he's only waking up the resident of Hadriel up at the crack of dawn instead of the middle of the night this time. He's considerate that way.]

Does anyone else hear it? The music? It's so lovely.

[There is, of course, no music. What he's hearing is the tune he's caught from passing through someone's mind while they sleep. It's had quite the effect on him.]

Music makes everything quiet inside.

[He starts humming to himself, tapping his fingers to keep rhythm. If that tune sounds somewhat familiar, well, it might have been your mind he was tapping into.]

[This changes things.

This really, really changes things. Sans meets Ushahin's eyes steadily, his smile as placid and ever-present as ever. He hadn't considered that. Wow. Seems like a real no-brainer, and here he was riding off the assumption that he had some measure of control over it. Which he does but...not a perfect measure. Not by any means.]

You're tellin' me you've never known how it feels to just be in your own mind, without anyone else's bumpin' up against yours?

[His tone might be hard to pin down. There's sympathy there, a shred of remorse, mingled with shock, disbelief.

This really, really changes things.]

[What an oddly specific coincidence. The left eye. Why the left eye. Sans sits in silence for a long moment, his expression unreadable, his thoughts a dark, incomprehensible swirl.]

That's rough.

[The words, when they come, are even and measured. He wavers on the edge of something, caught in two different directions.

But Ushahin can probably glean what he's debating if he's in his head right now anyway, right? No point in hiding it. He casts about in his own skull, wondering if he can detect when someone's there who shouldn't be, but nothing feels any different than usual. Still the shadow of a man who doesn't exist in his head. Still just numbers ticking up and down and some that are still and silent.]

I'm gettin' a funny feeling...

[Sans shuts his eyesockets.

When they open, his left eyesocket sparks with an unearthly blue-amber light. His right eyesocket is dark, empty, dead. Hollow.]

...that there's some real weird cross-universal circumstances here.

You read my mind.

[He means it in the purely joking sense. After all, that was his thought exactly. In Sans's experience, coincidences are pretty few and far between. He's not a huge believer in coincidence and randomized events. No event is ever truly random - pseudorandom, perhaps, but everything is influenced by something else, spun together in an impossibly intricate web. They live in a causal universe. No effect exists without a cause.

So what are the odds here, huh? He's guessing one in a very, very small number.

But keeping that eye ignited is like driving a white-hot spike into his skull. He blinks, and the lights in the dark of his eyesockets are back to normal.]

Not that I'm a big subscriber to the concept of fate, but with the exception of stuff on the quantum level - randomness is by and large kind of a mathematical myth.

We got a saying like that back home, too. Well, it was some human philosopher or 'nother that said it. Whole thing about the wings of a butterfly can disturb the whole universe. Nothin' ever happens in a vacuum.

[Everything has a source, and every source has a consequence, a ripple. That's not to say retrocausality ain't a thing, but it's a tricky thing, and his skull always starts to ache when he thinks about it. There's the shadow of a man looming behind that thought, with holes in his hands, but since he never happened, Sans dismisses it quite easily.

Externally quite easily. He can banish him to the posterior of his mind all he wants, but he knows it's not that simple. Still. Hardly the important thing.]
skelebro: (sansye shrug)

[personal profile] skelebro 2016-08-05 07:13 am (UTC)(link)
Hey, I wasn't the one who said it.

[Technically true. Ushahin's assessment hits a little too close to home but the guy is psychic. And if he genuinely can't turn it off, well that - that complicates things. To what extent, Sans isn't wholly sure.

He'll have to wait and see. But that's no problem. That's what he's best at.]

Like I said, 's just a human theory. An unproven one, but I guess this'd prove that it kinda holds some water, huh?
skelebro: (a weird kind of sugary quiche)

[personal profile] skelebro 2016-08-05 05:38 pm (UTC)(link)
I'd say so. Like I said, truly random events aren't exactly common.

[And they mostly only happen on the purely microscopic level. But Sans ends up here, isolated and alone, and no one from his world accompanies except the kid who heralded his doom, and the doom of the entire known universe.]

But look at me, makin' a conclusion without any hard evidence. Two poitns of data make a line, not a pattern.

[Oh boy. So now that's an invitation to roam through people's minds willy nilly. Sans lifts the ridge over one eyesocket skeptically, the skeletal equivalent of an arched brow.]

Or, y'know, you could just ask. That works too.
skelebro: (they downgraded to a fuckton)

[personal profile] skelebro 2016-08-06 12:24 am (UTC)(link)
You'll never know unless you give it a shot.

[He's eased up on the acute judgment for now, but that doesn't mean he's giving his blessing to Ushahin invading people's heads at will. The fact that he can't turn it off is one thing, but abusing the power is quite another. And what's that Sans likes to say about people having special powers?

Isn't it your responsibility to do the right thing?]
skelebro: (you really are ruthless kid)

[personal profile] skelebro 2016-08-06 03:35 am (UTC)(link)
Well, you know what they say. Learn by doing.

[Which is real fresh coming from a guy who excels at and rearranges his entire schedule to accommodate doing absolutely nothing. But at least he's aware of the fact, so.]
skelebro: (i'll get up tomorrow)

[personal profile] skelebro 2016-08-06 05:57 am (UTC)(link)
'Course not. I was born to sleep.

[That could very easily be a throwaway joke. That could just as easily hold some deeper meaning. Sans is the only one who might be able to clarify, and he ain't talking.]
skelebro: (i'll get up tomorrow)

[personal profile] skelebro 2016-08-09 05:22 pm (UTC)(link)
[Sans would answer with something dry and lazily hilarious, but he's also quickly coming to the realization that, in this case, his sleepiness isn't just for show. Then again, it never is.

In a matter of seconds, he's asleep for real.]
