Hello everyone! If we haven't met, my name is Elmer. I've been here for a few weeks now, I suppose. It's good to meet you all! This place is pretty interesting, to say the least, and everyone I've met has been very fascinating. It's nice to meet so many people from places so different from my own. ＼(＾O＾)／

I have a question, though! I'm looking for a man named Victor Talbot. He was here not too long ago and now I've lost track of him completely. Typical for him, really, but in this closed-off city, I feel like it'd be harder to just disappear like that. Maybe you've seen him? Dark hair, glasses, cool sideburns, yells a lot. Let me know if you see him. Or if you're reading this, Victor, say hi already! (ノ゜Д゜)ノ

While I have your attention, why not tell me a little about yourself? Let's break the ice this way: tell me one thing that makes you smile, no matter what. What's guaranteed to cheer you up? (・w・)

[Whatever that is. But Victor said that he lived city life the best, and Hadriel is a city, but from what he's seen that it lacks those two categories. At least for the most part, he hasn't met anyone and some people will act like a thug around one person and not like one around the next.]

And the longer we are here the longer we can make friends here and stay with them, yes? Or make them smile.

Sometimes people come and sometimes people leave, so you will never run out of people to make smile, so it is not that different from back home for your goal, yes? And sometimes people that were dead back home or have turned to the other side or gone far away will come here, and then people will be happy and smile because they can be like friends or family with them again. So there is more potential for smiles here than back home.

[Because scary and sad things happen everywhere, Hadriel isn't special in that.]

You're exactly right! Whether or not he's here isn't really important, I was just curious. Really, this was probably like a little vacation for him, and now he's back home back to work and... well I can't say happy because it's Victor. But probably content.

But as long as there are plenty of other people here for me to get to smile, that's all that matters to me! \o/

He was very lively even without being happy, and still not violent. That is rare.

Oh, I never thought of it that way, but you're right.
And of course. If you want, we can go looking for him sometime, but I'm not sure if that's a fool's errand or not. But hey, what else have we to do around here?

Cook and make sure that people don't die.

[Cooking so they can eat, and pretty much any other of his activities that somehow being subsumed under 'trying to make people not die', either as a healer or by supporting the guard or just by making Hadriel a bit nicer and making friends and stalking people who look like they're about to do something very silly.]

That was rhetorical, but since those are legitimately good reasons, I'll take it. XD

My job is to keep smiles on faces, of course. Cooking could be a part of that. I'm not a great cook though, so I'm not sure if my food would get nauseated faces instead of smiles or not!!

Maybe they will smile because they laugh about how bad your cooking is.

And if people die they cannot smile for you anymore, yes? [So really both of what he proposed could be molded into Elmer's goals.]

That's true. So cooking is important. The problem is we're a bit lacking in ingredients here. I suppose I could make some simple things. Some people hate cooking, so just the fact that it's already done for them would make them happy, no matter what the dish is. :D

As long as the dish doesn't kill them.

[Nodding. It's true, some people are unfit for life and don't know how to prepare food. Or rich.

I do. I guess the upside to that is that I have plenty of space to stretch out now. Now if there were only things around here to fill this place up with. Finally all the room for that video game collection I've always wanted, and not a game store within sight. ┐('～`；)┌

Oh it's like a game you'd play on your phone or a console, on a TV? I'd show you mine but the batteries in my GBA all died, so I'm afraid I'm out of luck there.

No, you have to do something for them in return. But I think you can get almost anything from them, if you can describe it well.

I suppose that makes sense. A sacrifice, maybe? Or perhaps I can just do more cleaning and painting. They gave me some strange things in return for that.

Right! There are two-player games too, but we'd need a console and two controllers for that. And a television. And some games. Basically a lot of things we sadly do not have.

I think you should just ask the god that you want something from what they want, that way you won't do something unnecessarily.

Good thinking. I hadn't asked for anything in return for that stuff, so I guess it didn't really matter what I had gotten!

Depends, there are a lot of kinds. Puzzle games, action games, horror games, role-playing games... those ones are my favorites. Anything with a good story!

If they don't know that you are doing it for them, they can't know it and give you anything in return for it, yes?

So they tell stories with you? [But then how are they games...] Like participating in a passion play?

More like fantasy or sci-fi stories with a character you name and control. Like there might be multiple paths you can choose, or responses to pick from, and it will all affect the story in some way and the ending you get.

What is fantasy and sci-fi?

Right! Have I ever asked you where and when you're from, by the way?

Those are genres. Fantasy - think like fairy tales. Fantastical creatures and people and places. Magic and stuff. Sci fi is sort of the same, but futuristic, sometimes set in space or on different planets, and super fancy technology instead of magic. Get it?

...But there aren't very many fairies in space.

I'm from the East originally. Of Europe. But I don't know when exactly. It never seemed important before coming here, yes?
