[Part of Chris thinks he should've made this post awhile ago, and part of him still doesn't want to. But it's a compromise to do it now, and it's probably the best time for it anyway; the last event is over, and new people haven't arrived yet. It's the calm before the whatever, storm or otherwise.

But he's going with text because even though it's been a little while, he doesn't want to try to say the first part of this post in anything other than text.]

Hey everyone. So I guess I'll start off with the bad news: anyone who were friends with Ashley or Josh should know they aren't here anymore. Also, I'm going to add that if Josh owed you money or favors or whatever else, you're totally out of luck because I'm not honoring them no matter what he might've told you.

[Jokes make this not heartbreaking, right? Definitely.]

Though I guess this is also a good time to mention that if you're working on anything important or even just keeping general notes or something, you might want to consider sending them to a friend every so often. If whatever it is is just on your phone when you disappear, it's pretty much as gone as you are.

So yeah. Back up your data and all that. Even if you don't want to send an electronic copy to someone, at least keep paper notes or something.

If anyone needs help with how to send files or whatever, just let me know. And I'm finishing a program for something else right now, but then I guess I'm taking requests? If there's something you'd like a program on your phone for, I can see if I can figure out how to do it. It's not like I have a whole lot else better to be doing, so feel free and ask even though I can't totally promise I'll be able to do it.

[But still, please ask. Please give him something to do other than miss his friends.]

And okay, last thing I swear, and it's the good part. For everyone who's new here and doesn't know, we have pretty awesome coffee at the bar thanks to Delight. Usually either Emily or I are there to make it, but if we're not just send one of us a message; it's part of the deal with Delight about the coffee to make it, so you're not bothering us or whatever.

So yeah, you might be stuck in a shitty cave, but at least there's coffee. That's something, right?

Could you make it in advance--the coffee? Or would that break the rules of your engagement with Delight?

We could make some in advance a little bit, yeah, but most coffee drinks uh... They're not really good if they sit for very long. The serving part of the deal's more about making people happy than anything else, so sometimes we'll make something in advance and deliver it and that's fine, but just leaving stuff premade at the cart probably wouldn't be great.

I was wondering because my friends like to have coffee available to them first thing in the morning. I can reheat it, but I wouldn't want to disturb anyone at that time.

Usually Em's at the coffee cart pretty early and I take over later in the afternoon, so if you and your friends need some in the morning we can work that out.

[It's definitely a little more difficult now that there are so few of them who made the deal left, but they can manage. Most people want coffee in the morning anyway.]

Um... Well, I don't drink it myself, but... I suppose if you're there early, perhaps I can simply fetch it.

It's good that you're doing this. It sounds like quite the commitment.

Yeah, no problem, we can set something up especially if you have a set time you want them or something.

It's um, no problem. The coffee's really worth it and it's nice to, you know, be able to do something that makes people happy even if it's really simple.

It is. People are putting themselves out for others here, and doing so so willingly. I thought perhaps it might just be boredom, but it's not just that.

A lot of people really just are, you know, nice because they can be. And care about others.

[But he knows from meeting so many people here that some worlds are harsher than others, so maybe that's not the case for where Castiel's from and so the behavior is surprising.]

There is that, but even so. I'm used to more selfishness, particularly when it comes to survival, and this place does seem to pit people against each other. It might not do to be so sentimental.

I dunno. We had um, a really bad situation back home before I got here, and we only made it out because we worked together.

[Things do get bad here, but--]

Generally, um, that's been true here too.

Until it isn't.

[ Castiel considers it for a moment, and then smiles, carefully. It's not so bad here. The people are friendly, and that helps. And now there's coffee. ]

What happened at home? Do you talk about it?

That's already happened, but it doesn't um... One or two people still doesn't change the overall trend here.

[He's quiet a few seconds at the question, because it's not really a secret what happened--parts of it, anyway--but he also isn't really geared up to talk about it much.]

We um, we talk about it sometimes. Has anyone uh... Told you about the wendigo event that happened here awhile ago?

Not much about it, no. Only that they were here, and further to that present in the caves. I am familiar with the mythology, however.

[ Is mythology the right word for something that's real in your own universe? Maybe not. ]

Oh, um, are they a thing where you're from too?

[He knows they are in some, and that would explain the familiarity with their lore.]

The ones that were here were from my world.

Wendigos and other things. If there are things, then generally they are a thing from my world, yes, myself included.

[ He considers what that explanation means, then asks, softly: ] What happened?

What do you mean by you being included?

[It's curious, not wary; he's gotten very used to people here not being human, so he's just interested.

Answering the question is a little difficult, but he can give a summarized version; he's had a lot of practice at that here.]

Um, a bunch of my friends and I were on this mountain, and it turned out there were wendigos. I um... I know some of us made it off the mountain, but some didn't.

I'm an angel. It's... You cannot imagine how difficult it is to convince people that I am what I am. On the contrary, I suspect if I were a vampire, or some kind of were-something, it would be accepted almost without question.

[ He nods in response to the explanation, however. ]

I assume you didn't know there were wendigos there when you went?

[Chris can't say he blames people for being shocked by that answer; he is too, even though just as Castiel mentions he's gotten used to monsters and vampires and pretty much whatever else at this point. But an angel is somehow different, although Chris doesn't disbelieve him.]

Yeah, that's um... Kind of a surprise.

[As far as Castiel's question--]

No, um, monsters aren't supposed to exist in my world. Like, at all.

[It was a pretty horrible surprise.]

[ What Castiel didn't appreciate, of course, was that being exposed to the world of monsters was only being given confirmation of what humans believed innately--that there was something in the dark. Believing that someone was an angel, though? That introduced a whole different concept: the presence of God, Heaven, Hell, sin and eternal judgement. It was too much for a lot of people, and Castiel didn't cotton onto it, really.

To be fair, he didn't really consider himself as being equivalent to a werewolf or a vampire, either. ]

I am sorry about your friends. And that the wendigos followed you here.

[That's definitely part of it, although it's tempered slightly by that Chris is very aware that the rules of one world don't apply to another. Even if God and angels and everything else are real in his world too, that'd ultimately be a lot better than just wendigos or anything else that might be lurking unknown somewhere in the world.]

Thanks. It um... It sucked, but I guess it also made all of being here not as hard to adjust to.

I understand. Some familiarity helps. My friends are here, and I can't imagine this place without them. I suppose familiar monsters is somewhat different, but...

Yeah, having my friends here is uh, nicer than the monsters part, but still.

[He sounds a little amused, despite the subject.]

Who're your friends?

Sam and Dean Winchester, and their friend Jo Harvelle. They're hunters--um, hunters of the supernatural. Wendigo, ghosts, demons, they face such things daily.

It's useful to know. If there's an attack by monsters here, then they can help you with them.

Oh, um, I actually know all them. They're all really cool.

[Chris likes all three of them, though he doesn't know Jo as well as Sam and Dean and there was the whole shadow-Dean thing but whatever.]

They are. I've known them for a long time. We stopped the apocalypse together. More or less.
