[Part of Chris thinks he should've made this post awhile ago, and part of him still doesn't want to. But it's a compromise to do it now, and it's probably the best time for it anyway; the last event is over, and new people haven't arrived yet. It's the calm before the whatever, storm or otherwise.

But he's going with text because even though it's been a little while, he doesn't want to try to say the first part of this post in anything other than text.]

Hey everyone. So I guess I'll start off with the bad news: anyone who were friends with Ashley or Josh should know they aren't here anymore. Also, I'm going to add that if Josh owed you money or favors or whatever else, you're totally out of luck because I'm not honoring them no matter what he might've told you.

[Jokes make this not heartbreaking, right? Definitely.]

Though I guess this is also a good time to mention that if you're working on anything important or even just keeping general notes or something, you might want to consider sending them to a friend every so often. If whatever it is is just on your phone when you disappear, it's pretty much as gone as you are.

So yeah. Back up your data and all that. Even if you don't want to send an electronic copy to someone, at least keep paper notes or something.

If anyone needs help with how to send files or whatever, just let me know. And I'm finishing a program for something else right now, but then I guess I'm taking requests? If there's something you'd like a program on your phone for, I can see if I can figure out how to do it. It's not like I have a whole lot else better to be doing, so feel free and ask even though I can't totally promise I'll be able to do it.

[But still, please ask. Please give him something to do other than miss his friends.]

And okay, last thing I swear, and it's the good part. For everyone who's new here and doesn't know, we have pretty awesome coffee at the bar thanks to Delight. Usually either Emily or I are there to make it, but if we're not just send one of us a message; it's part of the deal with Delight about the coffee to make it, so you're not bothering us or whatever.

So yeah, you might be stuck in a shitty cave, but at least there's coffee. That's something, right?

Being relatively new to this place, I assure you that just about anything you could tell me would be an improvement on what I've already surmised for myself. Have you made any progress on learning or manipulating the new coding system, yourself?

Did you just get here this last month?

Yeah; one of the other people here figured out how it generally works and made a game with it, and with his help and looking at his game's code I figured out enough to make programs too. There's still some weird problems that come up, but it just sort of takes trial and error to get through them.

Yes. From what I understand, new people arrive monthly with fair and predictable regularity. Who figured it out? Is he still here? And what kinds of programs have you prioritized writing?

[Not that games aren't worth it, but he can certainly think of more important things.]

Yeah, it's been pretty regular so far. I think it's been happening almost a year now.

Rhys figured it out; I think he's still here but I haven't talked to him for awhile. The first thing I made was a program for emojis since we were planning something we didn't actually end up needing them for, but I also got an emergency SOS thing going.

I know Hermann also made a clock and pedometer.

[And what Chris is finishing up now is also practical, but it's for the Guard specifically.]

Thank you; these are sufficient resources for education, and perhaps providing a basis to build upon. If you're interested in that kind of help, of course.

[L sees it as a potential project, something he desperately needs at the moment.]

Yeah definitely, the more people working on stuff to help out the better. If you wanted to try writing programs I can send you my notes too, so you're not just stuck figuring it from the apps we already have.

If you're willing, I'd be very interested in seeing your notes. I have some programming experience in my world, and a good head for puzzles.

[L's had the pleasure of having people work under him who keep notes this organized. And the displeasure of working with people who don't, but he puts those types from his mind as quickly as possible to avoid cluttering it with useless things.

Are you the only person from your world here, or do you have friends?

Some nuances are difficult to pick up, but I think the general picture is coming through adequately.

[The question is a good one, and probably an innocent one... but L still guards certain secrets jealously. It's deeply ingrained in him. Even if he won't talk about his successors, though, there are other parties he's not nearly as concerned about. Since Misa's already spoken to him on the Network and made a point of making it obvious that they know each other, he might as well keep it consistent.]

There's a girl, but I wouldn't call us friends. She doesn't like me much. What about you?

[It's definitely an innocent question in this situation; Chris usually asks it both out of his own curiosity and for the fact that it's a lot harder on people to be here alone than it is when they have friends. Having someone they know who is not a friend is an unusual but not unique case.]

Oh, that sucks. Yeah, even though two of my friends left, there are still two here.

It is what it is. We don't have much in common, so we were probably always going to clash no matter what. When people "leave", does anyone know what happens to them? It's not death, is it, or comparable to it?

Yeah, that makes sense.

We don't know for sure, but since people have disappeared and then come back and remembered this place, we're guessing they go back to where they were before they got here.

How common would you say that is? Compared to people who come back and remember nothing; I've heard that also happens.

I'm not sure exactly since I think there's probably lots of people I don't know about who've left and come back? But I know two for sure that remembered, and I want to say I also know of two who didn't.

[But he doesn't remember exactly, and doubts he's aware of everyone who's gone and returned. Although--]

There are also people that are from other worlds like this one, and came straight here instead of going back to where they came from.

By "other worlds like this one," do you mean that they've been taken from a world that they didn't originate from?

Yeah, exactly. They ended up in some world that wasn't theirs, and then came here from that place.

It's so absurd. I'd ask if you're sure, but you don't really have a reason to lie, that I can discern.

Yeah, I know it sounds weird, but then again it really doesn't sound much weirder than ending up in another world to begin with.

Where I'm from, an afterlife is widely believed in. This isn't completely dissimilar.

I guess so. I mean multiple dimensions and whatever are still a theory back home but they'd explain this too.

I thought it was a tenuous theory at best until very recently before I arrived here. I'm not of the opinion that being forced to question everything is particularly good for a person's sanity.

Yeah, I think there's a pretty big demand for a therapist around here.

If you believe that therapy helps, anyway. Some people genuinely do.
