Um... I'm Castiel. Some of you know me, obviously. I sometimes show myself at the clinic--I'm a healer. Well. [ He looks down into his lap. ] I try to be. The ailment that so badly hit us last month was beyond my ability to remedy, and for that I am deeply sorry.

However if there is anything, any scrape, any...broken leg, or incurable sickness... I should be able to resolve it. Should be. Given the state of my powers here, it does seem to be a game of chance. But I have healed far worse in the past. It's better, surely, to let me try than to live with pain and scarring when I might help with both.

But that isn't what I was here to say, not really. I wanted to... I want to...

I haven't been very clear, and I feel that it's important, given the way things were, and the way things will likely be again. I hear you, all of you, when you turn to prayer. It's impossible to avoid, and while I understand that it is private... I just wanted to apologize, either way.

Only when I'm close, and I don't...I don't intrude. It's a personal choice. Reading other people's feelings and thoughts--it's rude, isn't it?

I'd say so, yeah. But, eh, you ain't the first and only person down here to do that kinda thing on the regular.

[Not to say Sans isn't unhappy about that, 'cause he is. He's got a very firm sense of what's right and what's wrong to do when it comes to other people's business, it's just that most of the time he's too damned lazy to do a thing about it.]

It being common doesn't mean that it's okay to do it. Um... But sometimes there are specific things that people broadcast, and those are somewhat louder than others.

Bringing them up makes for awkward conversations, in any case, and that's something I prefer to avoid.

[All right, well it sounds to him like the guy's got a few more moral scruples than certain other psychic sorts Sans has encountered. Also sounds to him like he's got more control over it.

Flying. But um...essentially, that's correct. Or for any other reason. I'm actually quite useful.

[The wings that are beyond one's capacity to fully perceive. Which, eh, he can accept well enough. There's the whole theory of planes and whatnot, and a big impressive celestial being like an angel has gotta exist on several, yeah?

But here's the thing. Now he's wonderin' what a guy like him did to feel like he had to be useful in some kinda material way to be considered "acceptable."

I'm guessin' your powers were on the fritz a few days ago, though.

Yes. But um...when I realized what was happening, we decided to stay in. My powers are, when I'm using them--they can be dangerous, if they spin out of control. I can alter time, and reality...

--control fire, electricity, light. It wouldn't have been very safe.

Well, [says Sans evenly, without missing a beat,] I guess it's a good thing you stayed in, then.

[Can't imagine Castiel did a whole lotta of dismembering or breaking the wrists of his friends, did he? Nah, that honor went to Sans. Unique to him, evidently! Really just - thank you for that, Confusion, honestly.]

[ It's very hard to go wrong and start dismembering people when all you're doing is cuddling, really. ]

It...troubles me that people are so willing to overlook the immediate consequences of their choices; the gods that they bring into existence must immediately perpetuate their power base, and we are the willing victims of that.

[That had left him anticipatin' a real snoozefest, which he'd've been fine with, frankly. Might've been more complicated than that, he's sure - a double-edged sword, as most of these gods' resurrections seem to be.]

Honestly, I dunno who thought we needed to get more confused than we were already. I'd say we'd already hit rock bottom, but Confusion evidently brought us a pick-axe.

I agree. I suppose I might have understood if there was something to be gained by it, but...my GPS has never had any difficulty. If people wanted to know where others were, they could have just asked.

[ He says this now. ]

Well, I suppose not all of us have a preternatural sense of direction.

[He'll admit that much - maybe the GPS benefits will balance everything out in the long run, but he doubts it. Then again, he can't rightly blame all of this on Confusion now, can he?]

Pretty, maybe, but a guy like me can't much enjoy it. Asked Sorrow myself, and the fruit ain't even magic.

[So he got to feel all morose and regretful for a few days for nothin'! Story of his damn life, honestly.]

I don't enjoy food either, although I can consume it. It's just not...it's not very pleasant.

[Sans laughs. Can't help it, really. The guy's just so overwhelmingly sincere.]

Pretty much, yeah. Mostly it just goes right through me.

Do you miss it? I've only really eaten for pleasure one time, and it was under the influence of Famine.

Wasn't aware that was a god.

[Doubtful, he'd think, that it is - hunger ain't really what constitutes an emotion, is it, no matter how much Sans might say to the contrary.]

Well, technically skeletons can go for a few months without food. I gotta make up my own stuff with magic if I wanna be able to eat it.

Um...not so much a god as a Horseman. It was the apocalypse, after all.

So skeletons eat. I suppose that makes sense. Is there any way that I could help?

Not unless you know how to make magic food.

If you teach me how to do it, then I can perform some magic. I mean...if it's the kind of magic that can be taught.

More like a magic that's just kinda fundamental to the way things are for me, back home. Unless, uh, you happen to be made of magic too.
