video.
[ We’re going a little Blair Witch here with the shaky handheld camera as Dean moves through his apartment, turning on his device and squinting at it with all the spite he can manage. No really, dude looks unhappy as fuck.
Public service announcement incoming in three… t- ]
For those who knew him, Sam’s gone. [ Granted, names aren’t really a top priority around here, so that might not be the best method of delivering this message. ]
Better known as Sasquatch? The Jolly Green Giant? L'Oreal superstar? Call him whatever you want, but he’s out. Figured i’d pass along the info just in case he offered to help anyone paint their ceilings.
[ Stupid jokes make Dean feel better, but that’s all he’s got to say on the matter, which is why he chucks his device onto the couch, still turned on, flashing the blur of a symbol on the ceiling for a moment. Except--
Just when it seems like the device is going to time out, it is righted again by the sudden appearance of Castiel in the video feed. He looks worried, apologetic, his eyes flitting off screen. ]
-- Dean, you were supposed to offer them our help, if they find themselves possessed, or pursued by these demons. [ Offscreen a grunt can be heard, noncommittal and unbothered.
Cas looks back at the screen. ] Dean is a professional demon hunter, and I have been fighting them all my life. We both know magic that seems to be effective on them, and we are willing to teach others how to fight back. For example, this is a devil's trap. [ The camera scrolls around to show more of the pattern on the ceiling from earlier. It's shaped like this. ] If you draw one on the ceiling or the floor, even if it is concealed, it should trap the demon--supposing you can trick them into entering it.
[ Since Dean is busy finding liquor off screen… ] And I think it would be good for Dean to keep busy, considering our recent loss.
[ Buuuut now Dean has returned, peering over Cas’ shoulder into the device- ] I can actually hear you, you know. [ After which he plucks it from his hands and finally turns off the feed. ]
[ooc; dean is black, cas is blue! expect tagbacks from both boys! ]

audio;
[ And speaking of learning quickly--
Castiel is there, a moment later. There is a sound like feathers rushing through air, huge wings that are surprisingly quiet even so. But Cas still makes more noise than an owl coming in to land. More than enough to catch Matt's attention.
There was more to it than just the sound. This time, he would see distortions as the air was displaced ]
action;
Yeah, Matt jumps a bit when Cas shows up, nearly dropping his phone in the process. ]
How...? [ Is it rude to ask angels how they do things? It probably is. Matt stands up from the couch he'd been sitting on, turning to face Castiel. Luckily, he's fully dressed and everything but you could warn a guy first, Castiel. ]
This, uh-- this is what you meant?
action;
It is. You can sense shape through the movement in the air, can't you?
[ He puzzled over that for a moment. Maybe, for Matt, who had once wondered - if not entirely certain - that he was what he was, Castiel could demonstrate what was rarely possible to see. ]
Let me... Let me see if I can slow it down.
[ He took a careful breath, and then opened his wings once more, slowly, shifting their weight so that the feathers shifted through the air once again. Much slower. He watched Matt, curious what he could see. ]
Can you sense them?
action;
[ it's kind of nice having someone know about his powers. Especially the fact that Cas seems to get them. Matt would really not be okay with anyone else knowing... but Cas is an angel. It's about as close to telling God as it gets. ]
I... yes. I can sense them. [ But holy shit there's an actual angel, with actual wings, in his living room. As far as his senses are concerned, they're there, visible or not. This is incredible. ]
Wow.
action;
I'm happy for you. So few people have such gifts.
[ He stepped closer. The shifting from the wings faded, as he concealed them again, and he stepped toward Matt's side. ]
Because of that, so few people are so easy to convince. But I know you believe me.
action;
[ Matt kind of glows with the praise. An angel with actual wings said he liked his powers. It's kind of a big deal. ]
O-of course I do. [ There's a lot Matt can 'see' that most can't. hell, even his powers took some convincing when he told Foggy. ]
It must be hard... not having people believe you, I mean. Sometimes it's hard for people to have faith.
action;
[ He hasn't really talked about that, though, has he? ]
I had an idea as to how to show you the symbol. I brought some paint.
no subject
[ Matt shrugs. God is there whether people believe in him or not, so yeah. ]
What did you have in mind? I can read anything as long as I can feel it, so you don't have to worry too much.

[ And so Castiel moved over toward the door. It would help to ward off any spirit that might want to open it, although come to think of it it might have been a little rude to go burning the doors of people he doesn't know.
...But that doesn't occur to him.
He paints the symbol on the door, carefully, and not at all small, and then he moves back out of the way. Apart from the chemical smell, there's not really much evidence to show for it, perhaps, in Matt's field of vision. Which is why Cas reaches out and touches his hand to the paint, and immediately sets it aflame. It's a glow that spreads outward, rather than a fierce and sudden burst of flame, illuminating the entirety of the symbol, and retaining its heat for several minutes, even when the initial cinders have died out.
And leaves a lovely scorchmark on the door, of course. ]
no subject
Uh... thanks. [ I mean, yeah, the burnt smell is going to suck for a bit. And Connor might have some objections, but he probably won't object to keeping demons out of the apartment. ] Does that mean the door is all set now, too?
no subject
Castiel makes a soft sound of agreement. ]
Yes, the door should work at least some way to keeping demons out. A trap painted in front of it would be better, though. Far more effective, and it would trap any invaders. The most the symbol on the door will do is rebuff them, and even then, they can come in through the windows instead.
The map should be drawn large enough to contain the creature. So long as the edges aren't broken, or erased, it will remain inside.
no subject
I'll keep that in mind.
[ It should be fairly easy to redraw by the windows, now. ]
You have a lot of experience fighting these things, huh?
[ I mean, angel. Obviously. ]
no subject
Yes, you could say that. Generally speaking, however, demons stay away from angels, and we return the favor. We hadn't truly intervened in any of their activities for thousands of years, when I began to fight them with my friends.
But then, they were not as...bold. Not until they realized that they were on the verge of raising their leader from his imprisonment.
I haven't killed as many of them as I ought to have done.
[ He's thinking of Crowley in particular. ]
no subject
So it was kind of a status quo, huh? Did they really... bring back their leader?
[ That's kind of... lame. But makes sense. But that doesn't help. But Cas is an angel, he shouldn't judge. ]
What changed? Are these not the same demons from back home?
no subject
[ He gives his head the slightest shake. ] You can imagine that the possibility of the Devil ruling over the Earth excited them very much.
These demons are different. Demons in my world don't ask permission before they possess a body; that is the domain of angels. So when we kill them, we take a life of an innocent as well. The demons here won't necessarily have bodies yet. But the trap should work, even if it possessed the body of your friend--he would find himself unable to walk beyond the door.
That would give you time to attempt an exorcism. Or to ask for help.
