the audio feed begins with nothing but the sounds of heavy breathing and the crash of battle. someone running. you'd be forgiven for thinking that this happened entirely accidentally mid-fight, because no one seems to say anything for a good minute.

Kate's voice eventually makes itself known with a grunt and the thud of her back hitting a wall. )

Assistance needed. Colosseum. ( her voice is heavy with exhaustion, of having run and dodged and tried everything she can alone to attempt to stop- )

( it's harsh, and short, but there's no time. not when this thing - this demon that was once her friend and co-worker - isn't about to be stopped with a few weapons. she's doing all she can to outrun him, never mind trying to attack. )

[It's purely by chance that Glacius is accessing the network the moment that this is broadcast. He didn't check it all that regularly, given that the conversations that were usually held over it were not all that pertinent to him... but he hadn't heard from many of his friends in some time. In his first attempt to reconnect with them he'd decided to see if any of them had reared their heads here, and sure enough...

... Well, the ice alien had never appreciate the network as much as he did now. He didn't even bother to respond, he just immediately set his communications device and tore out of his room as fast as he could--though the otherworldly being detested rushing and rarely ran anywhere, that was exactly what he was doing now. He wouldn't let this be another failure. He wouldn't hear of her death after the fact--he was going to make a difference, this time.

The moment he bursts into the arena of the Colosseum he sees Kate being chased down by some demonic-looking creature. He's already waving an arm over his head, generating three larged and razor-sharp chunks of hail which immediately launch themselves at her pursuer, trying to get it to break off for a moment. If it doesn't alter its course, it will find its skin shredded by the various jagged points of the icy projectiles when they explode from the impact against their target's body. Meanwhile Glacius calls to his friend:] Kate! Over here!

( if she was holding a breath, it's let out when she hears Glacius, kicks her brain into gear enough to move towards him at full speed.

(honestly, she would have called him specifically if there had been time, but it took valuable seconds just to flick up a general network post, never mind search out someone specific and hope they answered in time.) )

It's- ( she sucks in a breath. Christ. why this, of all things? everything was fine when it was just random demons, but now- ) -one of th' clinic staff. He's too-

( they should probably move before he attacks again. )

I'll see if I can't find someone to send your way. How long can you hold out?

With Glacius here- ( and thank fuck he is, because she would be fucked alone. ) -long enough.

( a pause. A noise caught in her throat. This is ridiculous. ) Not kidding about th' powers. Humans won't survive this. ( it's taking pushing her body to limits she didn't think possible just to keep herself alive. )

Good to know the first guy I was going to call is already there. I'll see who else we can spare.

[The bad news is that if a big guy like Glacius is having problems, Kate will need all the help she can get, and given the Guard is already down two of its better members, he's not sure where that help will come from. He has to try, though.]

If things look bad, you two get out of there, okay? We can't afford to lose anyone else right now.

[Hakkai is fast or rather, he could have been a lot faster except for the fact that the demon that was controlling his body was enjoying the chase. The real Hakkai was completely overridden. Self-loathing had consumed him so that the demon could take the reins of his true, demonic form. ]

This body hasn't cruelly destroyed a human in such a long time. Would you like to be the first, Kate?

Do you want me to come and run a distraction? [ She's got powers. Not exactly superhuman, but she can handle a demon. She hopes. ]

[Glacius is about to ask Kate what she means, why one of her own staff members has suddenly turned on her... but then the demon speaks through Hakkai, and the threat it directs at Kate immediately snaps up the ice alien's attention. He whirls about, shoulders up to fully present those spikes, transforming himself into a bristling mass of a threat.] I would rethink that course of action if I were you! I will not hesitate to defend my friend, by whatever means necessary.

[He holds his hands by his sides with his palms facing each other. A large ball of light starts to form in between them. It grows larger and larger with each second until he launches it squarely towards Glacius.]
