"Accessible" does not necessarily mean "habitable". And it appears that much of the population is more interested in gossiping than escaping.

The whole city has been searched, including the caves. We haven't found a way to the surface, we don't know where the Door is or how to control it, but if you're interested in finding out, I suggest you harass Sorrow; he knows all about it, but he'd rather keep us all around.
