Video emergency call

[ Shortly after Henry and Maketh are murdered by Maketh’s double, Curufin is standing by the rail of the bridge that crosses the river through the lower part of the city. It is dark here and a convenient location from which to take stock. ]

This is a call to any surviving members of the City Guard.

I’m your fellow guardsman, Curufin Fëanorion. As I hope everyone is aware, many Hadriel citizens are being impersonated by hostile unknown entities. One of these imposters has just murdered Henry Percy and Maketh Tua.

I’d like to hear from any Guard members who have avoided this fate, and from anyone else who wants to help. We are all in a very bad situation, and I hope we can band together to do something about it.

Yes... and I urge everyone to use full force against this threat. They can only cause trouble for us as long as they exist. We must be rid of them.

That is... if you can identify someone as a fake. They can be deceptive.

[Kain pauses just a moment.]

For now, I'm focused on my own. I know the terrible things he's capable of, so he must be brought down. I've... encountered him before.

I agree. Best to be rid of them altogether, if possible. But not to attack those about whom there is any doubt as to which they are. I wouldn't want us to lose any friends that way.

Your double is known to you from another world? I guess, in a way, that gives you an advantage. He won't be able to deceive you or hide from you. Do you want any help, or can you handle him yourself?

Exactly. The gods may revive us here, but it's still not worth the additional pain that would come from getting it wrong. These enemies are clever and cunning, but... I'm sure they'll show their hand before long.

I wouldn't say it's that easy... I may have dealt with my Dark Self before, but he's not to be underestimated. I must stop him before he causes any harm. He's strong and cruel... I'll have my hands full, but I'm sure I can deal with him... he's my responsibility. I must be the one to defeat him. [And maybe, just maybe it'll mean achieving something he'd set out to do a long time ago.]

I hope these doubles do show their hand! I'd rather a messy showdown between us and them than this shadowy war.

I guess I would feel the same about it, if I had a double. I'd feel he was my responsibility, no one else's. I wish you the best of luck. [ And he really hopes that skill, luck, and an absolute determination will be enough for Kain to succeed! ]

Likewise. Give me a true battle any day over their spineless manipulation. I hope it does come to outright conflict... all the easier to be rid of them.

[It's a tough subject for Kain, but something he plans to confront head-on. It's something which he Has to Do, there's no backing away from it now.] Thank you. I know it won't be easy, but I intend to give it my all. Good luck with any doubles you should come across as well.

[ Curufin knows something about manipulation, having used it ruthlessly to gain his own ends, in his own world. He isn't quite the same person as he was then, having come to his senses. But it rankles that Maketh's double was able to deceive him, and when he fully realized that the person he had spoken with was not her, it was too late. He had missed his chance to prevent the deaths of the Guard leaders. ]

[It's definitely an aggravating thing for sure... to know that this other is out there, perhaps manipulating people into believing it's really him... He has a tough challenge ahead of him. But he has to face it. For his own good, but also the good of the people living here.]
