Dictation - 1 [Video]
Hello. [Rosen stares down his nose at the screen which is set a bit away from his face so as not to over-impose himself on anyone who might see this. His glasses are a bit scuffed from the excitement in the colosseum a few days ago but his clear brown eyes still show through]
I had a few question I was hoping someone among you might be able to answer but I should probably introduce myself before I ask.
[He straightens a bit, clearly uncomfortable on screen. He had been hesitant at the prospect of showing his face and had tossed the idea back and forth for the better part of the day but in the end he concluded it was probably the best means to his desired end.]
My name is Dr. Lee Rosen. I did my neurological and psychiatric residencies at Binghamton in upstate New York and I am also licensed as a general practice physician.
[He falters a bit, bashfully rubbing the back of his head with a bandaged hand. He hates sounding like he's tooting his own horn. He also hates volunteering information about his life, working from the general assumption that people probably didn't care to know. He doesn't bother to mention the fact that he is a new arrival. That is a given.]
I don't know if any of that might be useful here but if it could be I am happy to offer my services.
[He pauses again before changing course]
It might seem a strange request but does anyone know where I might find music...or...or even perhaps somewhere I could get my hands on an instrument?

But a clinic? That sounds more long term. Though perhaps he needs to start thinking in the long term. ]
Its almost serendipitous that we should arrive at the same time [He smiles shyly. He's overstating of course but its not sarcasm.] And no doubt a surgeon is useful to have on hand in a place like this.
[As are psychiatrists. Which brings him to Hannibal's second point]
A psychiatric clinic? I can't say I'm against the idea [In fact the more it weighs in his mind the more intrigued he becomes] but do you think there will be a want for one?
[Then the final point]
O-Oh...well...thank you. That is very kind of you. And the same for you, of course, should you need someone.

[There are a number of reasons Hannibal is proffering the idea of a clinic, of course. There was the esteem that it would generate for him, esteem that would both make it easier to influence others and give himself a degree of benefit of doubt that would protect him from closer scrutiny. But he was also deeply curious about the situation they found themselves in, and wanted to (metaphorically, at least) roll up his sleeves and dive into the chaos to find the patterns, to learn what this sort of environment did to the human psyche.
He also had developed a liking for this fellow psychiatrist, and wanted to cultivate a positive professional relationship that might then later become something more personal. Hannibal wanted to see how he ticked as well.
At Dr. Rosen's reciprocal offer Hannibal smiled warmly.]
Thank you. I imagine I will take you up on that, as I hope you will as well.

[His voice is a bit distracted as he is putting the pieces together in his head, shifting them about, and rearranging them again. He's trying to envision how this could come together. He's had several practices in his lifetime and usually the process of starting one began with tedium. Zoning agreements if you wanted to buy a building, safety checks and retrofitting if you wanted to rent space in a pre-existing building, contractual meetings with the state and federal government boards, appeals to medical boards, license checks, etc etc.
Rosen is unsure what, if any, of those things would be necessary here. Or is it truly the case that they can simply ply their trade without any regulation?]
Would you be willing to meet in person, Dr. .... [Its only then he realizes he's never gotten the man's full name. He flushes a bit at his own lack of manners]
I'm sorry. I just realized we've never formally completed our introductions. What is your name, Doctor?

[In an hour's time Dr. Rosen has settled himself on a park bench, his hands idly rolling his phone between his fingers as his eyes scan the surroundings for Hannibal. ]

[He gestures toward the bench, inviting the man to join him as he sits down.]

[Its no worse than his cell back home so really he shouldn't be complaining]
Now...about your earlier proposal.... may I ask what it is you had in mind? Or rather if you had any idea as to how this might actually work?

I admit the details will take some investigation. But I believe it will address an important need. Perhaps we could take appointments, perhaps we could have open hours, perhaps we could do both.

Open hours will likely be necessary at the start until we can guarantee a patient base. It will also be a useful way to gauge interest.
[He gestures at the phone in his hand]
Do you think it would be prudent to make a sort of public announcement once we've sorted out more of the details?

[He takes out his own phone and scrolls through the directory.]
It's quite a population. I've met people from very strange places.
[He glances up at Lee.]
Where are you from, Lee? Any zombies?

No zombies. Not unless you count the vagrants on the subway. I'm from New York. Born in the suburbs, studied upstate, and work in the city.
[He casts a glance at Hannibal]

[Conferences, lectures, DoD meetings...yes he's definitely been to Baltimore. No that he was ever eager to stay.]
Is it possible then that we are from the same world?

[He's entirely calm, and no one would know that he was devising some way to determine if this man might know about his crimes. It seemed unlikely, since he hadn't reacted to his rather distinctive name, but it was possible. If he did, then Hannibal may have to do something about that.]
Let's see...ah. I consulted for the FBI in a case for a serial killer known as the Chesapeake Ripper. It was rather well covered by the media. Have you heard of the case?

Chesapeake Ripper? I'm sorry, it doesn't ring any bells. [His expression turns apologetic] But I am probably not the best person to ask. My work... [He hesitates a little] ...well, lets just say I tend to get distracted with my research so I am often the last to know about national news.
[Until his arrest Rosen had more or less lived in his work. Its what had rotted his marriage from the inside out. His inability to remove himself from the cocoon of research. To care about anything outside of the Alpha phenomenon. Though he is overstating his ignorance about the news from the wider world, given he sees newspapers when he takes the subway and catches the odd newscast when he is at a deli counter, he nonetheless has not seen enough to know about any 'Chesapeake Ripper'.]

It was. I believe we are probably from very similar worlds, but not the exact same one.
[He tilted his head.]

I don't know if you have heard of something called the, um, the Alpha phenomenon?
[Lee is betting that Hannibal hasn't. If they weren't from the same version of earth, then it is unlikely the Alphas exist in Hannibal's world in the same capacity that they do in his own, and even if they were from the same version of earth, given the government's actions after Rosen's hearing, it is unlikely the news would have even been a blip on the radar in Baltimore.
As such, he proceeds under the assumption that Hannibal has no knowledge of Alphas]
Its a genetic trend, possibly indicative of future human evolution. We've begun seeing more and more cases of people with hyper intensified neurological abilities. An ability to manipulate thought, for example, through a heightened ability to direct and target the hormonal output of the body. Some have seemingly superhuman hearing or sight, but all of them, when examined, have solid physiological explanations for their abilities.
[He reaches up a hand to rub at the back of his neck]
I was hired by the Department of Defense to research, identify, and analyze potential Alpha cases.
