Dictation - 1 [Video]
Hello. [Rosen stares down his nose at the screen which is set a bit away from his face so as not to over-impose himself on anyone who might see this. His glasses are a bit scuffed from the excitement in the colosseum a few days ago but his clear brown eyes still show through]
I had a few question I was hoping someone among you might be able to answer but I should probably introduce myself before I ask.
[He straightens a bit, clearly uncomfortable on screen. He had been hesitant at the prospect of showing his face and had tossed the idea back and forth for the better part of the day but in the end he concluded it was probably the best means to his desired end.]
My name is Dr. Lee Rosen. I did my neurological and psychiatric residencies at Binghamton in upstate New York and I am also licensed as a general practice physician.
[He falters a bit, bashfully rubbing the back of his head with a bandaged hand. He hates sounding like he's tooting his own horn. He also hates volunteering information about his life, working from the general assumption that people probably didn't care to know. He doesn't bother to mention the fact that he is a new arrival. That is a given.]
I don't know if any of that might be useful here but if it could be I am happy to offer my services.
[He pauses again before changing course]
It might seem a strange request but does anyone know where I might find music...or...or even perhaps somewhere I could get my hands on an instrument?

no subject
He thinks a moment. He is most fond of his piano, and that is the instrument with which he is the most proficient, but he knows that is more than too much to be asking.]
Well..I...something like a flute perhaps? Or a guitar.... [He hesitates a bit as he pictures his collection at home] ...Even a harp would be a great comfort to me.
But please I do not wish to impose...
no subject
A flute, a guitar, or a harp would be fine. I've made all of them in the past, and could certainly do it again. Do you have a preference? -- which should be first?
Don't worry about imposing. I'm an artificer, and I get bored if I'm not making things. So you are doing me a favor.
no subject
Would you be at all familiar with key action mechanisms?
no subject
[ He's never made one but he's seen them. ]
no subject
Err...yes... something like a piano or an organ?
[Another hesitation]
Do you have those where you are from?
no subject
I am a musician myself, as well as a maker of harps and other stringed instruments. I know the theory that underlies the structure of a musical instrument. So if what you really want is a piano, I would be happy to construct one. It might take a little while to find the materials, but I don't think that will be a problem.
no subject
Music is very dear to me, and the piano has always been my instrument of choice. I have been without them now for well over a year.
But please, if it is too much to ask, tell me. I could also be content with a flute or a harp.
no subject
Besides, if music is that important to you, then being without your chosen instrument is an important enough problem for you to involve others in its solution.
Would you like to borrow one of my harps in the meantime? I have made two of them since I've been here, and I don't need two.

[Rosen's expression turns soft]
Thank you. I truly appreciate this.
no subject
And we'll talk about any specifications you have for the piano.
And you are most welcome.

I'm still a bit lost when it comes to finding my way around this place. Would you be able to come here? I believe it is number 803 in the third spire?

{{ Shall we continue on? Curufin showing up at Dr. Rosen's doorstep? }}
no subject
I'll, uh, [He awkwardly gestures about himself] ...I'll wait here.
action
. . . Dr. Rosen, it's me, Curufin, with your harp!
Re: action
Just a moment!
[He hurriedly stacks his papers in a neat pile, it is an old habit to try and make one's home look as presentable as possible when there are visitors, then quickly moves to the door, tugging it open]
Hello, Curufin [He smiles and steps to the side, gesturing to the sitting area] Please, come in. Thank you for coming over here.
action
You are welcome, and thank you for inviting me to your home.
[ He sees the stacked papers and guesses Dr. Rosen has gone to some trouble to make the place neat. That shows care for his guests, and that is pleasing. ]
Re: action
[Lee flexes hands at his sides awkwardly, a nervous habit.]
Do you live in one of these apartments as well, Curufin?
action
No, I'm way over to the northwest past Delight's Temple, in Delight's Housing, #06. I don't usually like recessed housing, but for some reason I like those downward spirals.
Did you pick this place because you're used to apartment living?
Re: action
This place I sort of just picked for efficiency, mostly.
And yourself? What is home like in your world?
action
In my world. . . well, i>home was a complex matter. I and my family rebelled against the gods and left their land, our original home, to sail across the strait to another continent. We made a new home there, but we never lost the habit of thinking of ourselves as Exiles.
Our new home was just south of the Arctic Circle. It was mountainous and beautiful, but cold and dark and snowy for much of the year. I lived in a drafty castle. The summers were short and spectacular, and we celebrated as much as we could, when we could. We built or made everything we had, being pioneers. We were at war most of the time, but I loved that place -- East Beleriand -- and I still miss it.
Re: action
[He clears his throat awkwardly, obviously desperate to change the subject]
At war, you said? With the gods?
