Hello. [Rosen stares down his nose at the screen which is set a bit away from his face so as not to over-impose himself on anyone who might see this. His glasses are a bit scuffed from the excitement in the colosseum a few days ago but his clear brown eyes still show through]

I had a few question I was hoping someone among you might be able to answer but I should probably introduce myself before I ask.

[He straightens a bit, clearly uncomfortable on screen. He had been hesitant at the prospect of showing his face and had tossed the idea back and forth for the better part of the day but in the end he concluded it was probably the best means to his desired end.]

My name is Dr. Lee Rosen. I did my neurological and psychiatric residencies at Binghamton in upstate New York and I am also licensed as a general practice physician.

[He falters a bit, bashfully rubbing the back of his head with a bandaged hand. He hates sounding like he's tooting his own horn. He also hates volunteering information about his life, working from the general assumption that people probably didn't care to know. He doesn't bother to mention the fact that he is a new arrival. That is a given.]

I don't know if any of that might be useful here but if it could be I am happy to offer my services.

[He pauses again before changing course]

It might seem a strange request but does anyone know where I might find music...or...or even perhaps somewhere I could get my hands on an instrument?

[After about 10 or 15 minutes Rosen finds his way to the clinic, approaching timidly with his hands in his pockets]

Hello?

( She's stood at the steps of the clinic, an old house repurposed for this before she turned up here, that's somehow remained standing, painted by residents and volunteers in bright colours, vivid against the rest of the city. )

Dr. Rosen, aye?

( She holds out a hand to shake. ) Kate Galloway. I run the admin side of things here.

[He takes her hand, shaking it politely]

Ah yes, that would be me. Very nice to meet you, Kate.

[He casts an eye about the building, taking in the bright colors and the surreal contrast with the rest of the cave]

If you dont mind see asking, how long has this clinic been up and running?

( That, as far as she's concerned, is the cue to step back into the clinic, holding open the door for him to follow suit once he's done viewing the paint job. (She's kind of fond of it, actually, although it's been painted that way as long as she can recall. It stops this place feeling as drab as everywhere else can.) )

Far as we know, this place started pulling people in over a year ago. It was set up a little after that. ( Inside it's... well, about as mismatched as the exterior is to the cave. Cobbled together with whatever could be salvaged from the city, found in shops or old buildings. It's not much, but then this place has different requirements from what was needed back home, back in most people's homes, she imagines. )

Been working on a volunteer basis as long as I've been here. Supplies are usually a problem, but we manage.

( God, I'm sorry for the delay here! I've been stupid fatigued the last few days, but I just wanted to say that we have an info comm for the clinic over at undersupplied and if you have a plurk, feel free to add me at forethought. )

[He follows just a pace or so behind her, listening as his eyes scan the breadth of the walls, up to the ceilings, and then drop down to the odd collection of furnishings and equipment. It is reminiscent of the makeshift clinics he's seen in refugee camps and disaster rescues. Everything collected in haste and nothing left to waste.]

What does a normal day look like here? How many patients on average? [He falters] ...or is there even such a thing as an average day here?

( In a way, she'd suppose they were in that sort of situation, if somewhat better off. )

Some of th' time we're quiet. Usually help the occasional people who go into the caves or get injured some other way. ( She pauses, turns into the room they use as an office and rests against the desk. ) Anyone told you about how the gods work?

( Because that's when things get crazy. When Fear or Rage decide they're going to attempt to collect energy. )

More or less [Lee nods.] Though being told is one thing, accepting that all of this isn't some strange hallucination is another. But I'm getting there.

[He's stopped trying to reason his way out of it, to say the least]

Look, I don't want to waste any of your time, I am sure you already have your hands full here, and it is very kind of you to meet me. I'll say now that I would be happy to volunteer my services if you feel the clinic has a need for them.

Busiest during times like that.

( She inclines her head, mostly nodding to herself as she makes her decision. )

Place works on a mostly casual basis. People come and go easy, so it's better than getting too dependent on anyone. If that's alright with you, could always benefit from someone with some sort of experience when it gets busy.

[He nods in return]

I will follow your lead. I don't want to be in the way nor do I want to be useless.

Help's neither. ( Not right now, when it feels like staff members are returning home left right and centre. )

( So many people here don't like to ask the gods for things, but when you have no other resources, what can you do? )
