[Just audio from Cal this time. Short, sweet, and to the point. He's not up to much else after the conversation he just had with Flick. But he has a question, and he needs an answer. At least he's trying.]

If I had a question, how responsive are these so-called gods?

[A few moments later, he sends another audio message, directly to Pell and no one else.]

I won’t be coming home for the next few days. Ask Flick why. He needs me to not be there for a while. He probably needs you too.

I talked to Flick. He didn't like it. he'll be stuck if I'm there right now. Ulaume will want my head. [What else is new.]

I can't let you do that, Pell. They already think I tainted you. You're his friend. He'll need you. Maybe I broke him, but despite what he thinks I'd rather he didn't stay that way. [In other words he'd rather Flick not be like him.]

Talked to him about what? What could be so terrible... you were getting along.

[ And he doesn't know what he'll do without Cal around, now that he's gotten him back. Strange how he ever went so long without. ]

And we probably never will again. It was necessary, Pell. [Sigh. This is what he does with his life--break everything apart.]

[He sighs. So persistent, Pell.] He told me about Orien. I needed to know what I did.

[ Of course he'd bring up the reason Flick had hated him in the first place. Of course he would. ]

I'll stay. For Flick's sake, but what about yours? Are you alright?

I promise it wasn't for nothing. I can't go forward not knowing.

[He doesn't regret it, but he is sorry.]

I don't know, I've never thought about it before. With a friend, maybe? It seems like most people here come from questionable worlds but I think we'd be fine in most of them.
