Maybe we have been looking for the wrong kind of door.

The Colosseum could be a large fairy circle. It would explain why the Door is so capricious, yes?

Oh, that's really cool! Do fairies exist here? And would they have to exist in the place they pull something from? I'm pretty sure we don't have them back home.

Most of them revealed it, either intentionally or unintentionally. But there are signs we watch for that give us clues to who might be one. Like glowing eyes, or super strength/speed.
