I've been thinking. I've got a lot of problems with you people.

Who wants to hear about it? [ she looks like she really wants someone take her bait. she doesn't like to cater to Rage, but she does want to win. so here they are.

Some situations just take a certain kind of person to survive.

[ she smirks a little. ] They do.

Makes you real suspicious of a place like this, doesn't it?

Oh, it does. Makes you suspicious of a lot of things, really. And it gives you a different perspective on what can happen when things start going sideways.

And it's when things go sideways that you find out that people aren't always who you thought they were.

Sometimes. Sometimes you find out you aren't who you always thought you were, too. A situation like that, you don't get to have illusions.

Did you think you were somebody else?

No. Not really. But maybe sometimes it would be nice to be able to fool yourself for a while.

I haven't been able to fool myself in a long time.

How old were you?

When I won? Eighteen. My brother won the year before. When we seventeen. [ old by Hunger Games standards but young in the broader scheme of things. it feels like lifetime away. ]

[Natasha nods, accepting that answer. But hey, might as well give up a little herself. That's fair.

Who knows if it's confusing or not.]

I figure I was about twelve when I figured out what I was capable of. Not the same situation, of course, but... well.

[ her expression softens. ] Oh. Wow.

[ she'd been training then, but none of it felt real. it was still just pretend. ]

It's never easy.

We can't all be reality television stars. [ she smirks a little. it's funny in a horrible, dark way. ] But you understand. That's what's important.
