Yes! I love schnapps, especially the flavored kind. I got wasted on butterscotch schnapps back at the place we were before. Drank like half the bottle, puked my guts out and was hungover past noon the next day.

[He says, cheerfully.]

[He's never going to understand you humans.]

From what I understand being hungover is like being hit by the subway while underwater.

Oh, yeah, it's awful. I've never heard it described that way before but it sounds accurate. Not that I've ever been hit by a subway while underwater.

[Yet ... he sounds so cheerful as he says that.]

You sound really happy about all this.

Well... Hangovers are the same, even if I'm different.

So it's something familiar?

[He guesses that makes a little sense. Maybe. Not really.]

Most people don't really enjoy the bad things.

There are worse things than hangovers, even if they're awful.

[The hangover themselves are awful, but the drinking before is usually fun enough to make it worth it, to still tie it to pleasant memories in spite of the sickness after.]

There's worse things than being decapitated and no one yearns to have their head ripped off.

Whatever, have your hangovers.

... I am pretty sure decapitation is the worst thing.

You're not using your imagination. What about being drawn and quartered? Covered in sugar and eaten by ants? Electrocuted until you break your back?

People hate demons, but humans are far crueler than anything I've ever seen.

[There is a distinct pause in the sound of Noah trying to dig, there.]

Please say you're making that up.

[he's kind of super horrified.]

I saw it in some medieval museum.

[Before Ethan coated the museum in blood anyway.]

I think I can actually hear you by the way.

That's - [Before he can fall back on one of his normal descriptors - just assume it was probably either 'creepy' or 'awful', he doesn't vary these things up much - Noah gets all excited, resuming his digging again.] - wait, you can? Really? Like not through the phone?

Yeah.

At least I think it's digging I'm hearing. Something up there anyway.

[He smacks on the lid of the coffin again, on the off chance Noah can hear him through the dirt.]

[Noah isn't sure if that was through the phone or through the ground, but he really really wants to believe it was through the ground. He shifts his phone to his other shoulder, really putting his back into it. It'll be a dang good thing he can't actually get blisters or exhausted, though he still can't do much more than a teenager of his size can do anyway.]

Aren't you glad you didn't explode yourself now?

[He's definitely hearing digging now. He shoves at the lid of the coffin, but it's not budging. Unfortunately none of his supernatural powers are inhuman strength.]

Yeah yeah. You're gonna be rubbing that in my face forever aren't you?

[Noah laughs his sort of breathless laugh which is barely audible through the phone as he digs, almost dropping his phone in the process. It feels like the first time he's laughed since this all started, really. Everyone's going to be found, they'll all be fine. Noah keeps repeating this to himself, because if he says it enough he believes it.]

Not forever. But like, for a little while, yeah. Definitely. You'd do the same to me, so you can't be mad about it.

Oh I would lord this over you for days.

[He sets the phone down so he can push on the coffin lid. It actually lifts up a little bit, letting dirt cascade inside as he forces it open.]

Never thought I'd be so glad to see dirt before.

[Noah gives a small 'Whoa!' as the demon pushes up and lifts the lid a little because hello he's actually like... standing on it to get at it?? He hits the shovel against the lid in annoyance.]

Lemme clear some more off first! Five minutes, geeze. Hold your horses.

Fine fine.

[He stops shoving on the coffin, letting Noah clear some more of the dirt off.]

Am I actually six feet under? Or is that just a saying?

[Noah huffs but is mostly quiet otherwise - he doesn't need to breathe, so.]

Well. I don't have a yardstick or anything, but... it looks that way. Give or take.

[A few more bangs from the shovel by accident and then Noah's pulling himself back up out of the hole he's made to be out of the way. He feels very weary after all this, he really hopes the demon can get out because otherwise Noah's going to vanish and leave it so close to being done.]

Okay, try again?

Fear didn't half ass this one, did he? I'm almost impressed.

[He pushes on the lid with all his strength, and it creaks open, inch by inch as he gets enough leverage to slam it further open with his shoulder. Finally it opens enough for him to crawl out, looking more like a demon than he ever has in his existance. Coated in dirt and alcohol and black goopy tar that's attracting even more mud and dust all over him.

He doesn't need to breathe either. But that doesn't mean that crawling out of a six foot deep hole is easy. Unfortunately he's not feeling up to teleporting out of there, he's definitely not operating at full strength. He finally gets out of there, flopping onto his back at Noah's feet and just laying there.]

This has been a really shitty few days.

[Noah kind of flops down when the Demon does, too, sitting next to him. He doesn't breathe hard or anything either, he doesn't need to breathe, but he's all faded at the edges and hard to focus on, like the after-image of staring at a bright light for too long.

It took a lot out of him, digging the Demon out, especially without Adam nearby to repower him.

Faded as he is, Noah still smiles.]

I'm glad you're okay.

Yeah yeah. Don't go hugging me or anything.

[The weirdness of looking at someone whos gone all fuzzy is bad enough, he's not sure what that would feel like to touch. Not to mention he's a little worried that touching him might be bad for Noah. The Demon is not human, not alive, and his teleportation causes static interference. All things that seem like they wouldn't be good for a ghost.]

And you know thanks. For the rescue.

[Oh that hurt. Actual gratitude. He winces a little.]

Hug you? And get tar all over myself? As if.

[Noah says this instead of responding to the thanks, letting it pass without acknowledgement so the Demon doesn't have to deal with more Feelings than he already has.

Noah's still smiling, though.]

I think you need a bath before you do anything else.
