[Shadow is right on the money and Anakin doesn't avoid saying "wife" or "Padmé" because he's somehow ashamed or frightened; he avoids saying those words because his heart feels like it's going to cave in on itself each time he even thinks of them.]

[Anakin has a rather warped view of nice thanks to Palpatine. He can overlook a lot of crazy and see what he thinks are small rays of light.]

Kylo Ren. Ben. [He calls him by the latter more than the former. Ben is the name Leia - his daughter - gave him, so it holds more weight in his mind.]

[The temptation has won him over. Darth Sidious knows what strings to pull - to play the victim, to butter up Anakin's ego; in short, to do whatever is necessary to make the young man feel as if he has no other choice and no other path to follow. Anakin is, frankly, disgusted by his new Master and unnerved by him. But he is desperate and his options feel nonexistent. Either Padmé agrees to rule with him or she too is a traitor.

Which leaves him with no one, really, except for Sidious and that is, perhaps, how the Sith Lord becomes Emperor and stays Emperor though Anakin's goals said likewise at the beginning.]

To protect my grandson, you mean? [And those like Maedhros?] I might. I can't say.

You have to start at the bottom and work your way up. I'd start addressing small grievances, gaining loyalty and learning about what matters to everyone. [It's all the better if he can work in some bribery too.]

The thought has occurred to me. I am powerful enough to frighten people into submission, but that's a hard way to hold loyalty.
