[This message is over a week overdue. Way to go, Anakin. Stellar life choices as always!]

If anyone saw me behaving oddly... [When doesn't he?] I was drunk. I won't be doing that again. [Because it resulted in a dislocated arm, a bitten tongue and lots of bruising.]

I didn't mean - I didn't want to - [He grits his teeth, frustrated.] I can't remember if I hurt anyone. I'd like to say I wouldn't, but -

[He has all the skills necessary to see to hurting just about anyone. Or worse.]

I have had closer calls. I figured what might help you best, and it seems to have worked, though you got hurt.

{A small frown, the Elf's brow creases.} Sore? Have you been resting? Forgive me, I should have checked on you sooner.

Getting hurt gave me some clarity. [He winces and leans back in his chair.] Its always been that way unfortunately. I never stop until I hit a wall at full speed.

[His gaze sharpens.] None of that, Maedhros. It's bad enough that I dragged you into all of it. I deserve every ache.

I am often the same way. {Wry.} Keep going until we can go no further or are stopped - one way or another.

{Maedhros smiles a little.} If you recall, I am the one who picked you up and carried you off. I could have turned away. But Anakin, you are a friend, and I am not one to leave a friend alone when I see them in need. Perhaps you should visit the hot springs again? If they are still around...

Do you think it's genetic? My mother was stubborn, but not like me. [He snickers and tilts his head to the side.] So you did pick me up. I thought I remembered that.

[He had enjoyed it a little too much at the time. How embarrassing.] Yeah, I might look for them. My arm needs another week of rest and it should be back to normal.

In part, and the rest is learned - often from our parents and those around us. {Maedhros grins.} You did not seem to mind. I have carried Elflings who protested more!

Would you like some company while you search? {Not that he doesn't have another motive to the offer, no!} Try and be patient with yourself.

I only had one parent. [His is a special case, but he has a feeling Maedhros is right. He learned how to be stubborn to survive on Tatooine and he was ambitious because it was the only way he could ever imagine escaping that hell.] You gave me a nice view.

[Elflings wouldn't care about that.]

Sure, but I won't be as entertaining this time. [How dare he have motives!] I heal fast for a human.

Who probably loves you with all their being. Alive or passed on, I expect that remains true. {A soft, fond chuckle.} If it helped keep your stomach less upset, I am glad.

You could be a slug and I would still happily keep you company. {A teasing grin!} A fact with which I am pleased to agree!

She died because I couldn't save her. She died because I left her behind to train with the Jedi. If I were her, I wouldn't love me anymore. [And oh that hurts. His mother had been his whole world once. His galaxy, in fact.]

Yeah, it worked. [Maedhros.]

A slug would never have my personality. [Or his skills. He's a proud, ridiculously young Man.] I'll set out this evening if that's alright?

You did not know she would die for certain, Anakin. Otherwise, I believe you would have been there for her.

{What a pair they make!} You speak truly, I cannot imagine another having your personality! {A nod.} I will meet you shortly.

That doesn't make it better, though, does it. [Shmi is still...gone. Far from him. Anakin sighs.] I don't have a father. I can't trust Master Obi-Wan or any of the other Jedi Masters. Padmé is -

I won't lose her the same way. I can't handle it, Maedhros. When I think of it, that's when I lose control.

[But no more alcohol. He cracks his neck, grimacing, and he stands up stiffly.]

Was that a compliment?

{A quiet sigh.} No, it does not. For that alone, I wish I could come with you when you leave here.

You should not be alone, Anakin. Not with those thoughts. I ask that you come to me. We can go after beasts together again. It is not a perfect solution, but if it helps even a little, I expect it is worthwhile.

{Maedhros smirks, walking away from the most recent tunnel he'd been poking at the edges of.} If it is a compliment you wish...

I'd like your company too. [Maedhros could help him break his connection with Palpatine a whole hell of a lot sooner.]

You're a good friend. [He feels completely unworthy and there are times he cannot help but be reminded of Obi-Wan. He loved his previous Master very much and perhaps he loves him still. That's why he can't let him live.]

That doesn't sound very reassuring. [He moves out of the house and tries to locate Maedhros through his surroundings.] Looking for anything in particular?

{Which Maedhros would gladly do. He thinks Palpatine is a jerk who doesn't deserve Anakin's power.}

And you are a better one than you believe.

{The Elf makes his way towards Anakin's house, planning to meet the Man halfway.} I check on the general whereabouts of the beasts, to make sure not many get past the barriers and into the city.

[Palpatine is a very cunning jerk. Once Anakin has enough of him, though, he gets what's coming to him.]

I don't believe that. I've been depending on you too much.

[His arm is freshly bound and he is wearing a simple black tunic over grey pants. There are bruises on his face and under his clothes, but he's in one piece. It's a good start.]

One of our heroes. Did anything nasty take a hunk out of you this time?

I have been told that I need people to need me. So you see, my friend, by leaning and depending on me as you do, you help me.

{Maedhros is wearing his usual clothing - though with light armor on over his tunic and forearms.}

Nay, not this time. I fear we scared them back!

[Anakin makes a disgruntled sound in his throat. That sounds awfully convenient, Maedhros, and it works out far too well for his benefit. He sees through you.

Not that he's complaining. When he sees the tall Elf in the distance, he waves his good arm - or, rather, the prosthetic arm. It's the best arm he has at the moment thanks to his drunken rage.]

If you need to scare them more, I can make some noise.

{Maedhros smirks. He doesn't try to be mysterious! It's not his fault what makes him happy is helping other people.

He raises his left hand in answer, then when they're near enough, he reaches out to tug Anakin close for a quick embrace before chuckling and shoving him gently away.}

I would not protest if you joined my patrols.

[Under his pride, Anakin knows he needs help. A lot of it. Maedhros has his hands full.

The embrace feels like a warm welcome; something he hasn't really gotten in...years. This Elf is so free with his affection - so free with care - and it humbles him. Anakin lifts his arm to return what he is given, smiling shyly when they part.]

For you, I would. I'm always looking to up my training.

{There are more where this comes from! Maedhros is working on not flinching from affection, and it seems to be working where family and those he's come to care about here are concerned.

And it seems to help Anakin. Another point toward showing him affection. He smiles gently at the Man and ruffles his hair in a sudden bout of mischief.}

I go out each morning.

[Maedhros doesn't have to worry about being hurt with him. Oh Anakin might lash out or do something idiotic, but the Elf is faster than him and physically stronger. Regardless he appreciates the affection and he won't take it for granted.]

Fine by me. [He huffs and bats at the hand.] I wouldn't want you feeling lonely.
