[Ol' Gil has a lot on his mind lately, one of which is this:]

hypothetically

if the door stopped doing it's thing and bad shit stopped happening, and the gods were able to send us home,

would you choose to stay here? why??

That would be nice, but it does not seem we understand it at all. I would settle for sending those home who need it.

Yes. It is difficult enough to bind so many diverse people together without more being taken every month.

I am familiar with having to make a living below ground, and we have advanced very far here in a very short time. But I think we could likely use our own magics to become more self-sufficient. Human food is probably the biggest difficulty...we have the creatures, but I do not believe it is healthy to always eat meat?

The canine ones are not terrible. We ended up having to resort to that, when the city was split.

I am a monster. Traditionally, monster food is made purely from magic - though my own magic is not especially suited to making any. I have been supplementing my diet with human food since I have been here, but in general our bodies still process physical food differently. It would not harm me to eat only meat, or only fruit.

Not everyone needs to! My people have had to live in a set of caverns such as this for many generations. It took a lot of work to make the Underground habitable, but once the magic is set in motion - to allow plants to grow, for example - it is not as difficult to maintain.

I will admit we did not have to deal with attacks, at least not close to the cave opening. There was nothing living there before we came, beyond some insects and bats.

But there are so few of us alive now who recall what it is to see the sky. Being underground is, on its own, no new hardship.

True. I have spent much of my time in the gardens of late. It is encouraging to see plants growing so readily down here.
