[He supposes this is as good a time as any considering the events of the past few days and Rosen's recent post, so...
Lance is looking more put together than he has recently, although he hasn't completely returned to the formal look; he has bothered with a suit but not with a tie, and his hair's getting slightly out of control and distinctly curly. He also looks a bit like he's either gotten too little sleep or too much, although his voice is steady and even and he certainly sounds more professional than he did in his last post.]
Due to recent events, and in followup to Dr. Rosen's announcement, I think this is a good time to reiterate that should anyone be in need of someone to speak to about anything that may be bothering them, I'm always available for counseling or just to talk.
[He's gotten the impression this is something a whole lot of people here probably need, and it's important to make sure they're aware of the option and don't have to go hunting for information on who to contact.]
My name is Dr. Lance Sweets and I'm a clinical psychologist, which, for those whose worlds don't have such a profession, means that I work with helping individuals work through any mental or emotional issues they might be having. Although I've counseled patients on a range of subjects, my primary work has been with the FBI and therefore often in the area of coping with witnessing or experiencing traumatic events.
[Which is fortunate, since there seems to be a lot of that here. Which, itself, is unfortunate.]
Meetings can be as formal or informal as you're comfortable with, and where we speak can also be decided upon on an individual basis. I'm also willing to answer any questions you might have before making any agreements or arrangements.
[Because he's very aware that a whole lot of people don't get the idea of psychology at all, and he's also expecting at least a few 'aren't you twelve?' comments.]

and how to exploit it when necessaryvery well.]Was that before you arrived? You should have it checked again, to be certain it's healing correctly. The last thing you want is a permanently crooked arm.
[He might sound a bit like he's passing along advice he's heard himself.]
I'll probably go soon. [With Elise as backup.] It just weirds me out.
[His tone is understanding, not judgemental or incredulous; he's not a huge fan of either, honestly, unless absolutely necessary.]
Most doctors are okay, I guess. That surgeon was apparently a huge dick. He used his job to manipulate people into doing whatever he wanted, since a surgeon in an apocalypse is kind of, you know, mega important.
[She will forever ruin Malik's reputation even though her conversation with him hadn't been that terrible. He was mean to her brother and friends!!]
It's more like...magic sure is a thing here, I guess.
But, fortunately, it doesn't seem to have progressed to that point in Hadriel, at least not so far.]
That's a pretty good reason to be hesitant.
[As for the magic part--]
I've heard that, about magic healing, but I've been kind of... Not sure about trying it.
[So he understands if she's worried about that idea, although he does have an alternative suggestion.]
Dr. Rosen is a psychiatrist, though, which means he has a medical degree. He'd be able to look at your arm.
[And sure, Lance is annoyed with him at the moment, but not for a reason that would make him hesitate in recommending that Hotaru see him about her arm.]
...I thought psychiatry was just brain stuff?
[you have to go to medical doctor school...to be a medical doctor? no way!!]
Although 'brain stuff' is definitely a psychiatrist's primary focus, it's kind like any kind of doctor who's a specialist; they still have to go through med school and learn a bunch of general stuff. But since psychiatrists can write prescriptions for medication, they have to have medical training.
Huh. That might be okay... [Until his drunken nonsense makes her question everything again.] It feels pretty okay in general, though. And it can't take that long to heal, right?
Also yeah, good going Rosen.]That depends on how badly you broke it, what kind of break it is, how old and healthy you are, and a bunch of other stuff I don't know because I did not go to medical school.
[He's just broken a whole lot of bones, and works with forensic anthropologists on top of that.]
I'm super healthy! I never get sick! I scare germs away!
[She dared enter into the heart of the flu room repeatedly and the only sick she got was lovesick.]
Well, that's something, at least.
[But only one factor and definitely not enough to excuse her not getting her arm checked by a doctor.]
Anyway... So you do more, like, talking stuff.
Yes. I primarily help people identify and manage problems in their lives through understanding what's causing them, as well as methods of changing outlooks and behaviors if necessary.
...I'm guessing you work mostly with adults, talking like that. And that whole police thing?
Yes, although many techniques that work for adults also work for older teenagers.
[Just saying. And he does have some experience with kids from volunteer work during his sabbatical, but he doesn't generally counsel children for several reasons.]
-- Hey, how old are you anyway? You look like you'd go to school with my brother.
[Despite saying it dryly, he's obviously not bothered by the question or the comment. It really is too bad he doesn't have a dollar for every time the subject of his age has come up, though.]
I'm twenty-nine.
Yeah! He's twenty-six! Nailed it. That seems like it's pretty young for that kind of job, but I guess we can't all be grizzled old white men with beards and glasses.
And okay, he laughs at bit at that description, because that's so accurate of most of the psychologists and psychiatrists he knows.]
You definitely have one of the closest guesses in... Pretty much ever. And yeah, I mean, that's a pretty limited demographic that's only going to appeal to a limited demographic, so...
[So really, more variety is needed, even though Lance is only really sure about his age and lack of beard and glasses. His ethnic background is a complete guessing game, although his hair does give him some clues.]
But um, yeah, I started practicing with the FBI when I was twenty-two. What is your brother studying?
[Provided continuing to go to school is a thing when there's zombies around.]
[That's only four years older than her... That's like if she went to college right out of high school and stayed the stereotypical number of years, then hopped into police work. That's basically being in the FBI in high school!!!]
He was studying architecture. He's back home now, though! I cried so much when I saw him again, I thought he had to have been dead...
[video] lies or not I totaly laughed at the first version of that tag
I'd say I understand, but it's just as weird for me to imagine differently.
[He'd completed elementary, middle, and high school by 13 and then immediately progressed to university for another eight years or so, and is really glad he did. He can't imagine being stuck in high school in his late teens, and he's pretty much only heard horror stories from friends who were.
And okay, architecture is one of those neat fields that requires being talented, so Lance is impressed. But the rest of what she says is a more than a little more important and so warrants a response first, and he gives a smile.]
I'm glad he's alright. Architecture is a really interesting subject too, with the combination of drawing and math, both of which I'm jealous of anyone being capable of.
[Neither is a strong suit of his by any means.]
[She feels bad for Elise, but Elise had adapted, so it's fiiiine. Totally fine.]
Don't tell him that stuff if he ever shows up here, though. He'll probably think you're flirting with him, he's horrible.
[Along with the 'preparing one to live in a cave in an alternate dimension' one. Now they'd just need several thousand more to outweigh the benefits of not having a zombie apocalypse.
He raises his eyebrows slightly at that last comment, amused.]
He wouldn't notice the telltale lack of other signs that go with flirting, such as the stammering and wide-eyed terror?
[He's exaggerating of course, at least for how he is now, but that was totally what happened when teenage him tried to flirt.]
Somehow he expects people to be as shameless as him. It's not impossible, but it's a really high bar to meet!
