[a shaky moment as George readies the camera to catch her on the video, technology like this is unheard of in 2003]

So, uh. I've been told that I should get out more. Meet people. I'm not any good at that, so you're just gonna have to--bear with me as I figure this shit out. But I guess I've gotta bite the bullet sometime, right?

[she looks off camera and flushes slightly out of a combination of nerves and embarrassment]

Anyway, I'm George. I'm newish. I have--no fucking idea what I'm doing here. Does anyone? If you do, could you please fill me in.

[ Job done here, he starts to lead George back towards the house. When she mentions she doesn't have any other clothes he blinks. They just got her dirty. Sorry, honey. ]

Okay, we're definitely fixing that, then.

Yeah, he is. Kinda bossy, though. And he's younger than me, so that shouldn't work.

[she's gotten worse on her clothing than a little dirt. like blood!

How will I pay for the clothes?

I don't react well to bossy, it's probably good he hasn't tried that on me.

[ Pell grins at her question, shaking his head. ]

We don't pay here... at most we barter. You can get the shop a new bolt of fabric in exchange for telling Delight a happy memory?

Yeah, probably. He's too good at it for a kid his age.

[Okay, that brings George up short]

--what if I don't have many of those?

Nothing at all?

Well. I mean, I was dead until pretty recently and that wasn't a walk in the park. Aaaaand, I spent most of my life sort of. Avoiding people and experiences.

It doesn't have to be something big. But if you really can't come up with anything, I'll do it.

[ Because it's very sad if she doesn't have even one memory. ]

[thinks about it a moment. then another moment]

Wait. I might have something. It's not much, but it's gotta be better than nothing, right?

By definition, something is definitely better than nothing. [ Teasing her just a little. His smile is genuine, though. ] She'll take any memory that makes you happy.

[ And they're just about to his house -- Pell leads her up to a two story home with the lights on and a red medical cross painted on the front door. A sign that help can be found within. ]

[flushes a little at the teasing] Well. It's small. Probably wouldn't mean much to most people. But it should be enough.

[eyes the house from top to bottom] Nice house.

They're all about the same, but thanks. My best friend fixed it up a good bit while he was here.

[ In they go! ]

Cal? [ He calls out for his partner, setting the bag of vegetables on the kitchen table. ] He should be home.

[looking around herself as she goes inside]

[trails along behind Pell] Yeah? Is he gonna be cool with having company on a possibly permanent basis?

He's generally 'cool' with whatever I want, honestly.

Damn. Lucky you.

I've only ever had one guy like me and that ended--badly.

[Cal all but appears from nowhere in a doorway, arms folded over his chest, when he hears his name, and he pauses for a moment with a raised eyebrow to take in what he's seeing.

Of course he'd dragged in another stray.. Did he know everyone?]

[ He's cut off by Cal's appearance, at which he beams and crosses the room to lean up and kiss his chesna's cheek. ]

Cal, this is George.

Yeah, it was sort of a Romeo & Juliet thing, if Juliet was a Grim Reaper and Romeo was someone whose soul she had to take.

[is stopped from going any further by Cal's arrival. she's awkwardly waved and is trying to look harmless]

[Another raised eyebrow at the girl, though he does slide an arm around Pell's waist. Not so much possessive as just needing to touch him.]

Should I ask about the conversation or pretend I didn't hear it?

[just wait. George has weirder stories than that one to share]

Um. I guess you can ask?

[fidgets and looks awkward]

Well, uh. I was a Grim Reaper. Someone who takes the souls of the dead and send 'em off--wherever. And there was this guy who claimed he could see the Gravelings--they cause deaths. And he saw me at a place where someone died. And kind of got a crush on me.

I still had to take his soul, though.

[ Pell cuddles against Cal and listens to the story, which is tragic but-- ]

I'm sorry, what cause death?

Gravelings. Creepy little monsters with buggy eyes and spines on their heads?

[awkwardly waves and tries to look friendly. or at least harmless? she is bad at people, okay? bad bad bad]
