Well... seems like there's a few of you who are ready to sell us out.

[His voice is soft- not really angry, but there's a sinister lilt to it.]

And here I thought we were all growing to be one big, happy family. I can't say I'm fond of the necessity of weeding out spies in our city, but... listen, we're all in a flurry about this. We need to do something, and everyone wants a say in how we're supposed to move forward from here.

[Which has been a headache and a half for all of the gods. Sure, they get along in the grand scheme of things, but there's definitely a little clash of ideals going on, and frankly, Fear is tired of the arguing.]

So what I thought we'd do is to have you vote on who's in charge here. Who takes action and comes up with a game plan on how we're going to suss out what the Null are planning. Obviously, Sorrow wants to be our fearless leader, but his methods are a little... direct. Delight and Rage would probably have a little murder mystery party when they get back, Tranquility and Confusion- I'm not sure if they'd actually do anything at all, come to think of it.

[Christ, this is a mess.]

As far as Love and myself go... I can think of a few people I'd like to personally interrogate.

Anyway, cast your votes or ask your standard slew of questions. Yes, I realize that some of the dissenters will be voting, yeah I know that you all want to be in charge instead- there's probably a few of us who might bend our ears to you, but as we can't put a hundred people in charge, it's gonna be one of us.

And would these "interrogation" methods go, exactly? You guys don't seem the type who'd just sit us down for a chat.

In case you don't already know, I've been informed that the Null can likely monitor our correspondences on these devices. I'm a novice with them, myself, but this seems... critical to keep in mind.

Well, I've known some of you for quite some time. I'd have thought that we'd at least be friendly by now.

[Nate hasn't spoken to a god yet. Mostly because the concept alone is weird to him, even having grown up in a religion where the Lord hears thy prayer, sit, stand, kneel, knock back a wafer, End Scene. Weirder still is the mildly threatening tone that reminds him of back-alley poker games in Nicaragua, guys with gold chains and personalized handguns.

Nate hasn't been here long enough to build some deep, abiding trust with their local emotion-sucking deities. Personal interrogations, his ass. That's kneecap-breaking talk.]

"You can vote, but only from our list of pre-approved candidates?" I feel safe already.

I really want to know more about your interrogation techniques. If the Null are machines, then it's possible they don't feel fear and can't be manipulated by you, isn't it? What then?

Oh- well, seeing as to how he's the potential first victim of the Null, I'd imagine that Sorrow will want to keep him protected.

[He shrugs.]

But he's the only one of us that has much of a sway with Sorrow, so he'd probably continue to advocate for you and soften Sorrow up a bit when it comes to dealing with- whatever this is.

Their plan sounded pretty clear. Get someone to kill Hope. Kill the rest of you and anyone who resists.

Well, I mean, it's not like there's more than eight of us to choose from.

Unless you want to pick someone among yourselves- but as we've seen, your kind are far too divisive to allow that sort of thing. And there's the possibility of you electing a traitor and then we're all doomed anyway.

I can make them feel fear.

Yeah it's the whole 'get someone' part that we're a little concerned about.

A-Anyway! Y'know, I'm not on the Null's side, but it's also hard to be on your side too, what with all the crazy stuff and manipulation for emotional responses. If it were up to me, I'd fight the whole lot of ya with my own bare hands, but I'm not stupid.

[Yes he is. But he knows how to fight a war, and this ain't it.]

So for now, I'm siding with you guys, since at least you try to give us supplies 'n stuff. I've just got no reason to trust either side in this fight other than my own.

Okay, yeah, that makes sense.

[Though that makes voting difficult because wow does he not want to deal with any of these pairs. Then again he's going to just hope he's pretty safe on the subject anyway; he's made it no secret where he stands on this whole thing.]

But uh, I mean, I get the whole point of this and that you've got to do something, but this whole thing kind of... Might convince people that the Null's side of things isn't so bad. This isn't going to make anyone more likely to be on your side, basically.

What will happen when you find the ....spies?

See, you know the easy response here would be to, uh, figure out how to send us all home, right? Then they don't have a way in with us and you can just, I'unno, fuck off somewhere.

Let them convince those of you who already hate us to kill our only chance of survival? We've watched entire civilizations be razed by the Null- all of our culture, our cities, our loved ones... gone. If some of us [Looking at you, Sorrow and Hope.] are defensive, we have good reason to be.

[Fear shakes his head, sighing. He doesn't like sounding like Sorrow.]

You didn't see us when we were thriving. We were better than this once, but these are desperate times. We don't have room for mistakes.
