[It amazes him, frankly, that Luke wants to help him. He knows better than to expect that out of his son - or anyone, truly. Everything went so wrong and he lost himself along the way. While he still considers himself a Sith Lord, he no longer trusts Darth Sidious in the least. He knows the man must die.]

I wish that too.

[He smiles faintly, tiredly.]

I would change everything to know that you, your sister and your mother are safe. [That's what he has been trying to do all along.] I think Sidious used that against me.

I was a fool. I thought I could learn of the Dark Side from within after he rebirthed himself in his clone bodies. All I succeeded in doing was getting pulled in and manipulated by him. I should have known better than most, and I still fell victim. If it hadn't been for Leia...

[sighs again]

The only good thing is knowing firsthand that it can be overcome.

And I can understand wanting what you did...I think it's what anyone wants...for their loved ones to be safe. You aren't a bad person for wanting it. I know how helpless I felt when it was me.
