[Anakin is nursing a burned leg - thanks, fire - looking like his usual peppy, happy self.]

Eclipse, leave it alone. [He shows a curious cat sniffing said leg and coaxes it into his lap. Another cat, one that is smaller, with a face that is almost too adorable for words follows in Eclipse's dainty footsteps, laying over Anakin's leg. There. That's better, right?]

Thank you, Ravager. [No, really. This is the terrifying Darth Vader. With a pair of sweet cats.]

I swear this is the last I do for you, Hadriel. Unless there is a burning building filled with cats, you are on your own.

[Cats > People. Obviously.]

Hux? Are you alive? [That's a nice way of checking on someone, right?] Maedhros? Fingon? What about you?

[ Curufin perks up when he hears that voice and sees that face. ]

Anakin? Are you all right?

[ It's nice to see the cats trying to take care of the fearsome Jedi/Sith knight. We all need somebody to love us. ]

[There's a good face to see! Anakin isn't the most thoughtful of sorts, but he does care about his friends being in one piece.]

I'm alive, my limbs are mostly intact. Well, as much as they were.

[The cats are his nurses. No one can say otherwise.]

I didn't see you during the fire. [ But he's pretty sure Maedhros will have gotten Anakin out of the house as quickly as he got everyone else out -- assuming he was in it at the time. Climbing into windows at night is perhaps not the quietest activity ever invented, even for one as graceful and catlike as is Anakin. XD ]

But you've got one cat sniffing your leg and the other one laying on it? Hmmm. Got an injury?

I'm all right. Breathed a little more smoke than I would have liked, but that's about par for the course. [ Dark chuckle. ] Could have been worse, could have been dragon-fire.

I was around. I kept to higher points so I could use the Force to save some buildings. Fire is unpredictable and being in the middle of it doesn't give you a good view of which direction it might move.

[...about that. Anakin is just there to sleep and keep Maedhros company as a friend. Curufin could totally join them and be welcomed!]

Just a burn. [His cheek twitches at the mention of dragons.] They must've done a number on you for you to fear them. I hope Hadriel doesn't get any ideas about bringing them here.

I'm glad you were there! Things were so chaotic that it was impossible to keep track of what was happening at all times. I seem to have some affinity for fire, but I cannot move it in the direction I want it to go without using a physical medium to carry my intentions -- such as a fire hose. Your ability to affect the forces of nature directly, by means of the Force, is a. . . I was going to say godsend, but that is a word I tend to choke on. [ Small laugh. ]

[ A solid platonic friendship is a very great blessing. But Curufin wouldn't join them unless he was invited! ]

Just a burn, is it? [ Nope. Not gonna let you minimize it if it's a real injury. ] Have you seen a medic? Or my kinsman Elrond, the healer?

I saw your work, Curufin. You have nothing to be ashamed about; a lot of Hadriel has you to thank for rescuing their lives and their homes. What I did was secondary.

[His lips twitch and he laughs quietly.] I'm not about to thank these gods for anything. Then again, my powers do fall in line with what they would give: a curse wrapped in a blessing.

[Next time, he is getting invited.]

He has contacted me. [Why are they all so worried about him? ~~It has nothing to do with him being a reckless idiot.~~] I healed fine after losing my hand. This isn't as bad as that.

I can't take credit for it. We all worked together, the Brigade and the Guard and the people who joined us without being members. And people like you, Anakin, who came in independently and took on responsibilities without being asked. I'm proud of what everybody did.

[ He smiles at Anakin's jest as regards the gods and curses wrapped in blessings. ]

Good. And I hope he dragoons you into letting him check out your injuries. [ Grin. ~~No reckless idiots here! Certainly not Anakin or Curuifn!~~ ] I'm sure you did. You seem to me to have amazing vitality and resilience. Still, burns are unpredictable; they can infect at the drop of a hat. Better to be wise about them.

And as for what you said about dragons a minute ago, yes, we fear them. Not as much as the Balrogs, though. Ask Fingon sometime. I certainly hope never to see either of them in Hadriel!

I couldn't live with myself if I was cooped up while everything was going to hell. I've been trained to deal with emergencies, so it was more...habit. [Welcome to the world of the Jedi. Anakin's heroic tendencies are not even fully extinguished when he is Darth Vader.

I won't fight him if that's what he wants to do. [~~Never.~~ Anakin shrugs.] My body is probably closer to the Force and so it can be used for healing if needed.

[There are a lot of burns in his future. He shudders and gives his head a sharp shake.]

Whether it was generosity or habit, many have reason to be grateful to you. [ No, heroic tendencies are hard to quench. Luckily for Vader -- and for Luke. ]

[ Speaking of whom. . . ] And to your son, too. He joined the Brigade, built some of the machines, and worked tirelessly throughout the emergency. It would not have been the same without Luke.

[ You better not, Anakin, or those same Fëanorians might just come and haul you off to the healer! XD ] Yes, I suppose so. I guess the Force can heal many wounds, but I wouldn't suppose all.

[ Curufin doesn't know about the burns in Anakin's future. If he did, he would be horrified and sympathetic. ]

Don't worry. Fingon sometimes jokes about it. That doesn't mean he suffers less from his memories, but it does mean he uses ironic humor as a coping and healing tool. I rather admire him for it.

We avoided widespread tragedy. That is repayment enough for me. [Everyone has suffered enough. Just based on what he knows, Anakin wants to protect everyone from further pain. He has the power; he should use it.]

Luke did? [His voice softens with uncertain affection.] Was he injured? I really should...go see him...

[He is so awkward around Luke and his son, in turn, is forgiving and patient.]

The Force can encourage wounds to heal. The body has a natural process; a process that is tied to the Force. It follows that if you are strong in the Force, you can heal faster...better.

[Anakin doesn't even want to know about those burns. He's not sure how he survives.]

He's very brave and honest. I respect him and - [He doesn't want to hurt him. He's afraid, one day, he might.] I like speaking with him.

[ They are much in agreement on this! ]

He did. No, he was not injured, just exhausted, as we all were. Yes, you should go and see him; he'd like that.

[ It must be difficult, what with the two of them being offset in time to such a degree. It would require delicacy and patience. But being awkward around a son is a thing Curufin can identify with! -- though the time of his awkwardness with Celebrimbor was short, for they soon reconnected in the most wonderful way, thank goodness! Curufin wishes Anakin and Luke the best. ]

Yes, I know. The Force in your universe and the Flame Imperishable in mine are related, I think. We have spoken of this before. There is a power that flows throughout the universe and through all living and unliving things, and in my world, the Elves are strong in it. That must be why we heal so quickly -- if we are going to heal at all -- and why we may survive what should be a mortal wound.

[ Curufin would think it would be the above reason, but if it were his own future, he wouldn't want to know either. ]

That is my impression of him, too. Brave and honest. [ And oh, how hard it is to think of hurting one's own child! -- even if he is grown up -- and in Luke's case, older than his father. ] I am glad. He certainly thinks highly of you.
