By now, I imagine that everyone is aware of the shortages we currently face. With Sorrow dead and Hope still in recovery, our food supply may be insecure for some time. And without electricity, it will be difficult for some of us to prepare what we do manage to find.

Under these circumstances, it seems both precarious and inefficient to let everyone scavenge for themselves. For now, I propose creating some kind of communal cooking space were we all can bring what we hunt and gather. An outdoor fire pit might suffice for now, although if someone else has a better proposal I would be glad to hear it.

Would anyone be interested in helping me to set something up?

Yes, and I may pester them for a grill to put over the fire pit.

We will be, I promise! It's hotter than we're used to, but we can tolerate extremes better anyway. I figure if we smoke some of the fish, and take enough water, we can probably be gone for a few days at a time.

All right. So long as you two look after yourselves; toleration isn't the same as immunity, after all.

[Good thing this is just heat, though. Should they ever arrive on Planet Helcaraxe, Fingon's not going to be letting anyone out of his sight.]

Could you take a blank book along as well, if there are any left? If we end up staying here for some time, we could use maps.

Ambarussa was a better cartographer than I, but since we are going by foot rather than horseback, we should be able to do a respectable job of it, I think.

[Mildly] Hush, you; if I cannot accompany you at least let me fuss a bit.

That should be enough for now. I suppose we can see about more detailed maps if the length of our stay here requires it.

Mm, the most important thing will be working out safe sources of water and shade, I think. Find water, and we will have no trouble with finding animals to hunt, at the least!

[An amused snort] Oh yes, please make this family tree even more confusing, yonya.

Agreed. That we've landed near water may be a hopeful sign, but our appearance might have frightened any animals who tended to use it away.

Aye - and except for the monsters, I don't expect most animals to venture too close to habitation, either. Hopefully there are water sources further out! I did see fish in the pools, at least - we can see if we could tickle trout the way we used to.

[Laughing] The pools are as a good place to start as any! And I've not fished in years, it will be a welcome change of pace.

Can you still remember how to fish, I wonder, if it has been so long!

If I'd forgotten everything I haven't done since the Siege broke, Kano, my head would be near empty.

Oh, yes. That I'd seriously underestimated the pedantry of Atar's secretaries and the vexatiousness of his counselors- what a wonderful surprise.

And yet how would we know we were Noldor if there weren't a dozen people around us jostling to have their voices heard at any given time?

We are a startling argumentative people, this is true. I sometimes think we must enjoy it, on some level...

I suspect you may be onto something there. It would explain a great deal, wouldn't it?

But if I really have forgotten how to fish in the meantime, you are welcome to make fun of me as you like.
