[Seel is standing in what remains of Sorrow's grove. Like others, he's not exactly thrilled with the heat, but he's not unused to it either, having spent years in an inhospitable climate not unlike this one.]

A couple of things. First. I've been working with Elrond on trying to create some sort of irrigation system for the grove here. We obviously can't continue to rely on the gods for assistance. We need to make ourselves as self reliant as possible.

[Personally, Seel would prefer not to rely on anyone.]

Sorrow's death means we have to keep this grove alive. It's an additional source of food we can't afford to lose. To that end, if anyone needs a project, I would appreciate the help. This may not be the most hospitable land but it does offer food and we can make do with it if we use our resources well enough.

[Seel fingered the package of cigarettes he was holding in one hand, he was running low, and had been rationing best he could with the Null situation, and now this.]

Second. I'm running out of cigarettes. I quit once before but with significantly more resources than what we currently have available. If anyone has any tips, I'd love to hear them.

[At the moment, quitting cold turkey was pretty much his only option. It wasn't like nicotine patches grew on trees here.]

If you still have any cigarettes left, even just a few, start spacing them out. It'll not going be a huge help, but it'll still be better than an abrupt stop.

[That's pretty much the only advice he can really offer on that, and he's pretty useless as far as the irrigation idea goes.]

I can move water in to the system really easily once it's set up. There's a fair amount of it underground and making a well is easy enough.

That's a handy ability to have. Do you think you can pinpoint where the water is underground?

I may be able to mitigate the withdrawal symptoms. I have considerable experience removing poisons from the body, addictive substances are similar in principle.

[it's not a perfect solution, since poisons are something the body doesn'tM/i> want and addictions are the opposite, but Law wouldn't mind experimenting with a treatment regimen...]

Since the clinic is out of commission for now, might as well meet at the lab. They still have some equipment just in case, though most of what I would do involves my ability, not medical equipment.

The technical term is 'free modification.' I can manipulate matter at will. Combined with my medical knowledge, it means I can even manipulate the cells of the body.

[Seel starts walking toward the lab. Luckily, he didn't mind the heat as much as some people. It was easy how he fell into old habits again. Living in a desert for years with the only source of water a sulfur lake makes you grateful for the small things.]

Can you manipulate mater outside the body? Like create fire or warm tea?

You're welcome. Distracting yourself will probably be the best option for dealing with withdrawal, although you probably know that.

[Quitting any sort of addiction is difficult enough without being somewhere like Hadriel, so he's sympathetic even if he can't really offer any more help.

As for the counseling thing, he feels conflicted and it takes a short time to reply. He definitely doesn't want to tell Seel no, considering how long it's been and the seriousness of the issue, but he also feels terrible and doubtlessly won't be a particularly effective therapist at the moment. So it's a matter of trying to figure out how the pros and cons balance out, and he eventually decides he doesn't want to discourage Seel from talking by telling him this isn't a good time. He can probably just explain away any questions of how haggard he looks by blaming it on the heat and the food shortage.]

[There's some fumbling from the guy on screen as he reaches offscreen to grab a small notebook. He opens it to a set of pages where he's drawn some diagrams of the orchard and the river, and there are some measurements and other notes as well. They're not very legible.]

Hey, I was thinking the same thing! I was working on it already, actually. Irrigation, I mean. I'm no expert, but I have some ideas and measured some things out. Um, in paces, that is. We don't have anything else to really measure with at the moment. At least I don't.

At least there's problems to solve, things that need building and fixing. At least I can be productive.

[Seel honestly didn't know Sweets well enough to know whether or not he was good at what he did or not. He had never even been to a psychologist or really knew what they did before Sweets had explained it. He was in no position to judge.

And while he may say out loud that he understands that now might not be a good time, he wouldn't actually believe it. Seel is the type to tell someone to buck up, get it together and get your damn work done, and that he doesn't care if it's a 'bad time' or not.]

I'd like to start laying some more ground work for these irrigation systems first. Would you be available in a few days?

There's definitely a lot to do.

[He's really relieved that Seel asks if it can be in a few days, because that gives Lance more time to mentally prepare and try to pull himself together a bit more physically as well. He's more than happy to agree to the wait.]

Great. Someone who knows what they're doing. I wasn't looking forward to having to train someone with no experience.

[Seel takes a look at the diagrams, as well as he can see them from the through the screen. They're... a little messy for Seel's tastes.]

Measure with anything, as long as it's consistent. We can grab a long piece of metal if we have too.

If you want to bring the notebook we can meet start planning things out.

Well you're right, it should help a little bit. There's not too much else I can think of, to be honest. Last time I quit I had resources that we don't exactly have in Hadriel. And motivation.

[Life was hard in Hadriel. It's why he started smoking again in the first place.]

Do you have enough supplies to irrigate my garden as well? It seems to have made the move intact, and is still producing. I can spare seeds to start another plot at Sorrow's grove.

I should. We need the food from your garden. If there ends up being a problem I'm sure we can come up with a solution. There are plenty of people here who seem to be able to move water.

Manipulate, but not create. Fire is a Logia ability anyway, it's an element. I could move the teacup onto the flame or remove the milk from the tea without ruining either, but I don't create things that aren't already there.

(She likes gardening. It can be dirty and she likes to be clean, but the flowers and fruits are so lovely that it is worthwhile.)

Watch Elrond and make sure he does not over-exert himself? If he seems unusually tired, please call me. As to the second, I fear I don't know how to help much, but if physical activity will help, I wouldn't mind some help hunting, either.

Logia? What's that? I'm not familiar with that term. Your ability sounds different from what others of my species can do. We can manipulate energy, create fire,shields, move objects that sort of thing. But removing milk from tea is something completely different.
