Dictation - 7 [Text]
Hello. I realize I've not addressed the network recently so you may not know who I am if you are among our newer inhabitants. My name is Dr. Lee Rosen, one of the clinic staff. I am both a licensed general physician and a specialized neuropsychiatrist by trade.
I have a bit of an odd personal request. I am seeking anyone who has any special abilities not normally associated with the human species who might be willing to let me observe them. Purely observation and only at scheduled times, this is not a 24/7 type arrangement.
I do realize most of you are sensitive about any discussion of your personal lives so let me reiterate I am simply asking for volunteers. As such complaints about being prodded for personal information, while they will be taken under advisement, are unnecessary.
[Read: He's going to ignore you.]
I would be grateful for any participants, please feel free to contact me if you are interested. This is purely for the purposes of research so it should have no adverse affects on anyone involved and the agreement can be terminated at any time at the participants discretion
Thank you very much.

By "human species," do you mean mortals only?
Re: video
video
What is your interest in such abilities, Dr. Rosen?
Re: video
[There's a small hesitation before the next answer]
This type of research, or some species of it, was what I did before I came here. Abilities, abnormalities...
video
Oh really? -- and you had who for subjects? People with psychic abilities? And did you have the chance to learn anything interesting or useful?
Re: video
You see our world is not yet, er, open to the idea of individuals who can do things like manipulate thought or lift cars.
video
Are you saying that having such abilities in your world would mean automatic confinement to a prison or a mental institution?
[ Scratching his head over this! ]
Re: video
And no, not necessarily. Much of my work focused on trying to help the individual cope with their abilities, to control it so that it wasn't a burden in their every day lives, and if that could be achieved then they could live happily without problem. But the issue is that the majority of the population is without such abilities, and because of this they don't understand them. So they are still heavily inclined to fearing these individuals. Viewing them as a threat instead of as just another human being. We feared that revealing the existence of such being might lead to a violent backlash.
video
But are you sure that these things are not normal? You seem to be assuming that if they appear in the human population, they must have a pathological cause. But I wonder if in fact they may be rare abilities that fall within the range of what is normal.
I guess there is no equivalent in my world. There are Elves, Dwarves, and mortals, and we have our gods and demigods, the Valar and the Maiar. Everybody has their skills and abilities, and it is not the same for all races. We generally don't burn anybody at the stake for being different. [ Wry smile. ] We do that for political enemies, not for those with unusual abilities.
But our worlds are not the same, I guess. You say you felt you had to keep your research secret, for fear of harm to those you were trying to help? How did that work out?
Re: video
I'm afraid I have not been entirely successful. In fact...I may have done more harm to my cause than good.
video
But what was the harm that resulted?
Re: video
Are you sure you want to listen to that long story?
video
I would listen to any story you would want to tell me, Dr. Rosen!
