Christ. This place is boring as fuck. What do you guys do to entertain yourself when the gods aren't trying to kill everyone?
[Kiran has his phone on the ground, camera pointed up at the sky, as he slowly fans himself with a raggedy piece of scrap paper. His forehead and collar is drenched with sweat.]
Hey. I've got a question I've been meaning to ask.
How many people here use magic, and where do you get your magic from?
I keep worrying about using up all of mine. Not sure how it works here.

Oh, whatever. Everyone here has seen him fly. And he's here talking about magic. It's not like it's a secret anymore.]
... It's complicated, but it comes from humans, basically. Humans just, like, give it off as they walk around. Like how you exhale carbon dioxide.

thats kinda cool
back where im from humans r actually one of the races with less magic tho lol
or its like not as easy for them ig
anyway theres plenty of humans here i think so u should be fine dude
unless theyre usin it and that means ur stealin it?
bc i guess that would suck

[He hasn't really sensed magic coming off of people the way it normally works back home... or if it does, he needs to relearn how to use it, maybe? Perhaps it's because the Moirai aren't in charge of wherever he is, but that seems impossible too. It doesn't really make sense, but that's the situation he's found himself in.]
What do you mean, "races" with less magic?
no subject
i mean like
elves and gnomes have no problem with magic they use that shit all the time
but like dwarves and humans have a lil trouble with it
doesnt come as easy to them
stuff like that
but like half u ppl have never even seen a gnome or w/e
so there's a 50/50 chance this sounds like crazy talk
which is nuts to me like
how is there like JUST humans in a place thats so boring no offense

[Frowning, he squints and looks away.] I guess there's plenty of that kind of stuff in this place for real, though...
text -> audio
Yeah, gnomes. Kinda like halflings, but even shorter. Usually live out in the boonies, but you see some in cities, especially where I live.
[New York City is like, full of non-humans. Kind of refreshing, honestly.]
Kinda weird to me that a lot of stuff from my world is just "mythical" to other people. Do you have anything crazy in your world? Maybe it's mythical in mine.
no subject
Uhh, well... you ever heard of a Moira before? You know, like... Greek mythology... Atropos, Lachesis and Clotho?
no subject
Uhhh those are like... the ones with the thread? The Fates?

[Even he doesn't entirely get it, to be honest.]
Anyway, they do their destiny bullshit like the stories say they do.
no subject
[Nobody would consider them goddesses, though. More like just, super powerful spirits.]
So okay, they control destiny or whatever. How does that translate to magic?
no subject
[he pauses, trying to remember how it was explained to him.] It's like... an unstoppable force hitting and immovable object. Turns out that magic gets made when those things collide.
no subject
[That's... an interesting system. He's glad it doesn't work that way back home. Mostly because he doesn't want fate to be a thing. He believes in luck, sure, but fate's pushing it.]
And I'm guessing you're resisting something, since you said you've got magic. You doing it just to do it, or is the fate actually bad?
[He'd resist the fate of "getting a cushy office job" if it meant that A. he could have free will and B. he also got magic out of it.]
no subject
...Kind of a personal thing to ask somebody, dude.
no subject
[He guesses in a world where that stuff actually matters, it might be.]
My bad then. [Though honestly, the reaction kind of tells him the answer anyway.] You can hit me back with a personal question if it'll make you feel better.
[Since he doubts this kid will think up anything truly devious, if he takes the offer at all.]
no subject
No offense, but I don't really care to know any personal shit about you at the moment. I've been talking to you for like, five minutes. [laugh]
I don't really mind chit-chatting though. [he leans back, getting comfortable.] You could tell me more about all that magical races stuff if you want. I'm one of those folks who has not seen a 'gnome.'
no subject
God, that's so crazy. A gnome runs the bodega around the corner from my apartment. I see gnomes like, every day. But okay, so you probably just have humans, so that leaves... everything else.
[This could take a while.]
You know what elves are? A lot of people from other worlds seem to have that one down. And dwarves. Gnomes and halflings are short like dwarves, but they're built different. Got different cultures and stuff, too. Gnomes are closer to nature and stuff, halflings are just... They're just people that are small. Then there's dragonborns, and they're... I mean they're dragon people. And tieflings are demon people.
Most everything else is considered a monster. Even the sentient ones. [Like him, for instance.] The more... I don't know, "normal" races, they're pretty slow to be accepting of the other kinds. But there's lots of 'em. Giants, orcs, merfolk. Actual dragons.
no subject
[Not even in the way James is probably used to. Kiran has never been into fantasy stories or video games or any of that kind of stuff.]
Do all those different species and stuff get along with each other? I don't know how it works for you, but for me... humans have it hard enough just trying to get along with each other.
no subject
[They get along in that there haven't been any wars for a long time, but.]
A lot of them distrust each other, and there's a bunch of gross stereotypes. Like everybody thinks halflings are thieves, or that dragonborns are dangerous. And god fuckin' help you if you're one of the monster kinds. It's a mess, but it sounds like every world's a mess. Ours are probably some of the better ones, since at least ours have magic.
