[Adam is not terribly fond of posting on the network, where anyone can hear and respond, but this is kind of important. He doesn't sound nervous, just - very controlled as he jumps right into it.]

So, I know of at least a couple of people who were here in Hadriel before, left, and then came back. Neither of them have memories of their initial time here.

I'm interested in anyone else who's had the same thing happen, but - I guess this is also a warning. The Door must do something to us when we leave, something that makes us forget the things that happened here. It's up to you whether you think that's good or bad, but everyone deserves to know.

And if anyone has left and come back but does remember things, say something. So far this seems universal, but there's no way to be sure yet.

[ Gansey can understand why his friend is saying that. He isn't keen to court people called Fear or Rage, either.

He's willing to be pragmatic about it, though. The gods are the only ones who haven't been brought here from elsewhere. This is their world. That has to mean something. ]

I know that. It's just that they were here before, and something clearly happened to all of them. I know already that they don't want to talk about it, but...

If anyone knows how to read that language, it must be them. They've made it so that there's not much of a language barrier otherwise, after all.

[Adam is more wary than a lot of people, certainly more so than Gansey. He's observed all the conversations between gods and other people here that he was able to, but he'll avoid speaking to them directly for as long as he can, most likely.]

I think there might be a few different languages - maybe more. I haven't looked through that many of the books, though. Maybe you'll be able to find that out.

But you're right, especially since we're all able to communicate with each other easily. I'm sure we aren't all speaking the same language, people here are from so many different worlds, but I never have a problem understanding anyone. That's probably because of the gods, too.

Yes, that's my thought. It's a little improbable that in a whole other dimension, everyone would be speaking English. You don't need to go that far for that to stop being the case on Earth, alone.

[ It's not so much the existence of English here (or its perceived existence, at least) that's strange to Gansey, but the lack of diversity in general. He doesn't know how that's achieved, but any deviation from it is certainly interesting. ]

I just wonder why that's not the case for the books. A challenge to work at, perhaps.

[ He sounds like he wouldn't mind that being the case. Gansey always does better with a situation when he has a problem to solve. ]

[He doesn't bother hiding his small smile at the familiarity of this, Gansey finding a puzzle to try to solve. And he'll help, of course, as he always did at home, even if he's more focused on survival than the mysteries of the city.]

Yeah. I'll take you to the library later, and you can see what there is to see. It's no sleeping king, but it'll probably keep you busy for awhile.

[ There's something very focused behind Gansey's eyes. If he'd been asked, before he came here, he'd have said he couldn't bear for anything to delay his quest any further.

But he is patient. He's been searching for seven years. This is another obstacle to get past, and he won't allow himself to think of it as a greater impediment than that. ]

If I ever want to find a sleeping King, I have to get out of here, and that means this is work that needs doing.

I'm not worried, Adam. I told you. We won't be trapped here forever.

[After being away from home so long, it's hard for Adam to tell himself that they'll get back. But from Gansey - well, it's easier for Adam to believe. He's always so certain, so confident in what he believes. Adam has always been the doubtful one, but he'd like to have some hope that what Gansey is saying is true.]

If anyone can find us a way back, it'll be you.

[ Gansey pauses, taking that in. Of all of them, Adam was always the one who doubted him the most. He finds himself smiling. ]

That means a lot. I'm not going to let you down.
