finally, she speaks]

Okay. I'm looking for someone to teach me how to fight. Fist-fighting, martial arts, swordfighting, guns, I don't care. I'm just sick of everyone else fighting my battles for me.

Yeah. Maybe it's good in a way. He can't miss the family we were with Hannibal, if he doesn't remember it.

I know hunting knives best. Any knife sharp enough should do. It's about knowing where to attack. That's assuming that your attacker is human or has the same vulnerable spots as a human.

Yeah, I guess so. Are you guys sticking together?

I'm assuming the attacker is human. Ish. And maybe I don't think we've seen the last of the Null.

We're planning to, I think. He seems to like that I'm here.

I can show you where to stab, and where to drag a knife.

Great. So we get new bad things and old bad things too.

That's good. But if something happens, you can always move into the house I'm staying in. We had someone leave and someone else move out, so there'd be room.

It is, especially if you practice it enough that you can act instinctively when you have to.

Yup. It's a non stop party.

It does, most of the time. You'd be surprised though, at what can kick in during an emergency though.

[She gutted Nicholas Boyle instinctively. It wasn't until afterwards that Hannibal taught her to fight.]

That could be another name for this place.

[George has never been in a fight with another person before]

It'd be pretty accurate. I wonder if we could get other people to call it that, too.

Yeah, the fight part of fight or flight.

We might. Or undeath valley.

I've never actually been in a fight before. Not with another person. I killed a Null, but I'm not sure that counts.

'Cause nobody dies. Not really. Makes death kind of cheap.

It counts. You defended yourself.

Cheap, but still scary.

Okay. Still don't feel like a badass, though.

I wonder what it's like? For people who die here. Is it just, one minute dead, the next alive?

I hope it's quick and they don't have to remember it.

Yeah. 'Cause I sure botched the job back home.

So do I. I don't remember dying, exactly, but I do remember the moment before it hit me.

Was it bad? I remember feeling like I was going to die. I don't want to feel that again.

It wasn't bad, exactly. I remember feeling resigned, like there was nothing I could do to stop it. And hopefully, you won't have to worry about that for a long, long time.
