does anyone here know how to sew?
newt and i think we can get supplies from hope to start making good clothes. you know, better than the rags in the shops here, which fyi are worse than department store clothes
i'm going to learn how to sew [maybe] too. fashion is my thing. if nothing else, i can tell anyone who cares what works and what doesn't
i'll basically be a fashion consultant. for free [now nobody can say emily wouldn't consider doing pro bono work]
anyway, let us know here if you're interested. we'll probably do it anyway, but it's not like we'll be hoarding whatever we make. at least with me around, you can be sure you'll get something that works for you

All right, awesome. I'll ask her then. I was thinking about where we ought to do this. If you want, we can do it at my place or we could find an abandoned building and make it into a bit of a sewing place. Might work better.
(He's at least looking up every now and then, frowning to himself rather than at Emily.
Totally doing somethingsomething.)
Okay, cool. Maybe we can all chip in to help start getting clothes out there.
(He looks a little bit surprised when she does ask and then even gives her a flat look. And then because he's a snarky little shit at times, he nods very seriously.)
Completely dirty.
(Then proceeds to lift his hand up and show that it was in fact dirty. With charcoal. A moment later he lifts up a sketch pad. Laying on top was what looked like a pattern for a sweater.
There were question marks here and there and though it wasn't completely right, it was mostly right and it was clearly still a work in progress.)
I was looking at one of my shirts to try and understand how it might be put together. It seems pretty logical so I thought I'd try and draw it out.

[She...doesn't say anything else until he shows her what she's doing, because even though she's pretty sure guys have gotten off to fantasies of her before (she's hot, what can she say), it's totally different to imagine someone she's not dating doing it with her right there, so.
She is much relieved when it's just a drawing. One that's not all that bad.]
Good idea. Maybe there are some artists in this shithole who can design clothes.
video
(Oh Emily, you're really not his type. Besides, he's taken so wouldn't that be pretty scummy of him? He's pretty sure that'd be really scummy of him. Also ew? Who would do that.)
Can you?
(Design clothes, he means.)
video
[Well as long as we're clear on that. And yes it would be super scummy, don't cheat on your significant other.]
No. I mean, I've never tried, but I know what looks good and what doesn't.
video
(Which would obviously be useful but he's pretty sure Emily's got a better idea of the ideal atmosphere than he does.
Pfff. Newt doesn't even need memories or social awareness to know that one.)
Oh. Maybe you should then. Paper's pretty easy to try. Then if you're not good, so what?
(He twirls his charcoal pencil about between his fingers, looking thoughtfully down at the paper. He wasn't the worst artist ever, actually. He was pretty decent. With practice, he likes to think he'd actually be pretty good.)
Does design really matter that much? I mean, on paper before? Or can you just kinda stick stuff together and it's the same result?
video
[She's totally thinking Project Runway right now.
At his suggestion, she shrugs. Why not, right?] Fair point. It should keep us busy til we get faabric and machines and all of that. Oh-- we'll need dressforms. They're like manequins, only you can adjust them to the measurements you're using. I'll make a list.
[Which she will text him as soon as this call is over, so he can forward or show Delight, whichever's easiest.]
Design totally matters, oh my god. It's like... like baking without a recipe. You might guess right and get something good, but you're more likely to end up with a disaster.
video
(He'd flipped the sketch of his pattern over onto a blank sheet of paper to start on a list for the building. He put down some of his own ideas too just for the hell of it.
He looks up at her, brow quirked. He doesn't know what a mannequin is either but figures he'll find out soon enough. At least about the dress form.
That'd work well. She definitely knew a lot better than he did what they would need.)
Huh. No, you're right. That definitely does make sense. So we'll try and figure out someone to design things too. Okay, not a problem. I can't be the only person in this city who can draw.
(He flips his pencil around and it tucks it behind an ear.)
Another good argument for all this would be sayin' we should have more sturdy clothes since this place is kind of harsh. It's pointless having clothes that just fall to rags quickly. I'm assuming higher quality means a longer life time. Less work on the gods' part if they don't have to constantly be throwing clothes at us.
video
We can do a joint post or something when it's all set up and ask if anyone knows how to draw. Then we can get people in and start doing this.
[She dreams of good clothes, okay. Fashionable and sturdy, yes.]
We'll look hot and the clothes will last longer.
[This would be one hell of a resume booster if she could get anyone back home to believe the story about this shithole. Oh well.]
video
Actually that'd be a great idea. Even if we can't find people willing to draw I'm sure others would be willing to help. I think everyone around here is dying of boredom to just do something.
(Hey, Newt is every bit as gung ho about this as Emily is. He might not actually understand fashion like she does but how she had explained it to him had made it pretty evident that this was all worth doing. Besides, the garden doesn't take up nearly enough of his time.
Newt glances up at her then, a bit of surprise on his face and he quirks a brow at her.)
We?
(He can't even begin to imagine looking 'hot'. But his mind strays and yeah okay so that might not be the worst idea ever.
Pffff. She'd have proof of experience at least.)
video
[And then she mirrors that quirked eyebrow.] Yes, 'we'. You get some credit for this too.
[Come on. Emily is a bitch, yea, but she gives credir where it's due.]
