012 [Video]
[It's a nice, quiet day in Hadriel, at least as far as city-wide things go, but who knows how long that'll last. So Lance is taking advantage of it, both in terms of going out for a walk to get some fresh air and also making a post on the network; he has something important to talk about, after all.]
Hello everyone. I'd like to preface what I'm about to ask by saying that I understand some here may have concerns regarding speaking about this subject over the network, and so if you would prefer to talk in person I'm willing to meet with you.
[Another reason it being a nice day is helpful.]
I'm interested in hearing opinions on the issue of the Null that posted to the network a few weeks ago. In such a complicated situation it's difficult to consider all information and every possibility, and the people here have such vastly different experiences that can lead to unique conclusions and insights. The more ideas and reasons we all have to consider, the better informed our choices can be.
[Including, potentially, ideas of what to do about the situation other than the obvious two of 'kill it' or 'let it live happily ever after'.]
If you were not here for the last battle with the Null your opinion is just as important as those of the people who were present, as you're providing a viewpoint that, although lacking in specific experience, makes up for it with objectivity.
[In other words, they may not have a personal grudge against the Null that affects their opinions.]
I'd also like to note that this is all completely voluntary, and if you don't want to share your opinion that's fine; I'm just interested in hearing what people think and why, particularly due to experience and insight I may not have on a subject like this. Additionally, individuals who are still undecided in where they stand could benefit from hearing points and arguments they may not have had a chance to consider before.
Thank you.
[Considering this is such a serious topic, it can't hurt to be a little extra polite when asking people to do something potentially dangerous, right?]

[ It isn't the smartest plan, basically, but Rose is known for impulsive, reckless decisions anyway. Only this one has been carefully thought on and she knows it's got a high risk. ]
I kept asking myself what Sorrow would do. And that's probably kill it outright, if I know him like I think I do. But I'm not him and he's not here so... I say we try to help it. Understand it. I, more than most, know what it's like to be hated and feared just because of what I am without people knowing who I am. If this Null is being genuine in having emotions and feeling remorse then... I got a second chance. Why shouldn't it?
no subject
But arguing isn't the point of this post anyway, so instead--]
Are you at all concerned that your personal experiences might be causing you to act more from emotion than anything else?
[It isn't asked judgmentally; he genuinely wants to hear what she thinks.]
no subject
[ she asks to that. ] Like, I don't know. It's just. We all either already mistrust or feel sympathy for this Null. In my case, it's both. But my sympathy outweighs my mistrust and I am genuinely curious as to what we might learn from it. It's an inside source of information that again, despite what I may feel, we can't ignore.
no subject
It is true that the Null aren't just giving up, and it's only a matter of time before the next fight with them. If we don't learn anything more about them, it's going to just be a repeat of last time.
no subject
Exactly. Learn what we can and, hey. If it really does feel bad about what it's done... Maybe it can find a way to right some of the wrongs if we keep it around.
no subject
[The gods don't seem to be hiding anything specifically, and the Null didn't seem deceptive, but that still doesn't mean either side has presented a full picture of things. And that's not even considering the biases going on.
So just maybe this Null will have another idea, especially if it's closer to being caught in the middle with them than it is to being on either side.]
no subject
Yeah, I agree. It'd be good to maybe get both perspectives if nothing else.
no subject
[Because he's convinced she's being genuine and so he wants to talk to her about the subject in a bit more depth, but not necessarily on the network.]
no subject
[ Rose doesn't actually have much to hide so she doesn't mind but probably for the best. ]
no subject
[It's quiet and usually relatively deserted.]
no subject
[ The park seems like the new place to go to be alone. The orchard used to be, but- Lot of helping hands there these days. ]
no subject
[And he's not far from it, so he'll probably be there already when she arrives.]
action?
'Sup, dude. [ Casual as ever. ] So let's get to talkin' about this, I guess.
action!
[He offers a small smile, before getting right to the topic.]
I don't want it to be completely obvious on the network, at least not more than it probably already is, but I agree with you. I want to help this Null, both for the reason of information and because it's the right thing to do to give it a chance.
action!
Yeah. More the information for me, but. I also don't think it's right to just murder the poor thing.
Gonna' have to keep it from the gods. [ A consideration, here. ] Or if we can't, we're going to have to figure out what that means.
no subject
[About keeping it from the gods; he doesn't say it flippantly in the slightest, and is in fact very serious about this issue. It's kind of terrifying.]
I'm hoping that by the time they find out, we'll have discovered something useful enough that they'll decide it was a good idea not to destroy it after all. Provided we find it to begin with.
no subject
Right. I mean, I can help with the search efforts but- Metal's kind of a weird one, for my nose. Doesn't have much of a scent unless it's, like, freshly made.
no subject
[Metal is definitely not something he thinks of as having any sort of smell at all.]
We have a plan for looking for it though, so with any luck that'll go okay. We just... Will need that luck to continue.
[Which is an understatement.]
You've been here longer and know the gods better than I do; if they found out, what do you think the best course of action would be?
[No promises on if he'll follow her advice or anything, but he genuinely wants her insight.]
no subject
[ All jokes aside, there's a moment's pause as she tries to think how she imagines it going. ]
Be prepared for them to try and find it ruthlessly. Interrogate people until they can, eradicate it as quickly as possible. Kill it first, ask questions later. They also likely won't ever trust anyone that kept it from them again.
[ She knows that Fear or Sorrow would strike it down immediately, anyway. Most of the gods, she thinks, would. And she can't blame them considering what The Null did to their people, did to them. ]
no subject
[But he's joking too, and it doesn't last long at her next response.]
Yeah, that's... Kind of what I was worried about. Not the trust issue, but what they might do to find out who has it.
no subject
[ She actually hadn't considered that luck and boredom were not, in fact, emotions. ]
Probably nothing good. I don't think Hope would let any of them kill us directly, but- It also probably wouldn't be pretty.
no subject
Great. Yeah.
[Pretty much as he thought, and he's not sure if her confirmation is reassuring or terrifying.]
Well... Thank you, for your help. Would you prefer to keep a distance should we indeed find the Null, or do you want to be involved?
[Considering her history with the gods, he isn't sure she wants to be actively in the midst of things even if she agrees with the idea or protecting Name.]
no subject
If that makes sense.
no subject
[If they find it, if they discover anything really useful, if someone destroys it. But nothing too specific, like their actual plans or what they're working on at the moment.]
