[It's a nice, quiet day in Hadriel, at least as far as city-wide things go, but who knows how long that'll last. So Lance is taking advantage of it, both in terms of going out for a walk to get some fresh air and also making a post on the network; he has something important to talk about, after all.]

Hello everyone. I'd like to preface what I'm about to ask by saying that I understand some here may have concerns regarding speaking about this subject over the network, and so if you would prefer to talk in person I'm willing to meet with you.

I'm interested in hearing opinions on the issue of the Null that posted to the network a few weeks ago. In such a complicated situation it's difficult to consider all information and every possibility, and the people here have such vastly different experiences that can lead to unique conclusions and insights. The more ideas and reasons we all have to consider, the better informed our choices can be.

[Including, potentially, ideas of what to do about the situation other than the obvious two of 'kill it' or 'let it live happily ever after'.]

If you were not here for the last battle with the Null your opinion is just as important as those of the people who were present, as you're providing a viewpoint that, although lacking in specific experience, makes up for it with objectivity.

[In other words, they may not have a personal grudge against the Null that affects their opinions.]

I'd also like to note that this is all completely voluntary, and if you don't want to share your opinion that's fine; I'm just interested in hearing what people think and why, particularly due to experience and insight I may not have on a subject like this. Additionally, individuals who are still undecided in where they stand could benefit from hearing points and arguments they may not have had a chance to consider before.

Have you ever been in a war Dr. Sweets? Leaving the Null alive means that if they do find us, this Null has all the information they need already. It's also possible that a means of contact might arise to help them locate us. You do not leave an enemy in your territory alive if they can do you harm.

[Kelson listens to the other, older man, not quite comfortable yet tipping his hand as to whether his skill is merely behavioral or magical. He's too used to treading the line back home. But it was a good point. He'd have to truth read here and find out his limitations.]

Everything has limitations, with one's own knowledge and ability to ask the right questions and find the right answers as well as discerning differences between species.

[He tried to be neutral, not give too much away, while still being truthful.]

We all have the same goal. I only hope impotence and squabbling do not hamper our cause.

If you count the fighting that has occurred here, yes. Otherwise, no.

[And Lance really doesn't consider the battle with the Null to be a war anyway; it's not much of a war when only one side is made up of an army.]

Perhaps practices are different in your world, though. I wasn't in the military, but I do know that in my world it is not practice to kill an enemy that has decided they no longer want to fight.

[So maybe there's a culture clash, here. And as for the rest of that, he has a few things he could say but decides not to; the point of this isn't arguing, after all.]

I would say there is a difference between an enemy that surrenders and an enemy that is hiding and avoiding repercussions for their actions. This null has not surrendered, despite his assertions that he no longer wishes to fight.

But perhaps you are right, and there are different practices in different worlds. I would never advocate killing an entire army that has surrendered, all enemies need not be put to the sword. I still believe this null is a threat.

I hope I am not the only one, and if so I hope I am wrong.

What does yours do with your enemies? What is typical in your world?

It doesn't seem to be able to move, and it knows that if it tells the wrong person where it is, they'll destroy it on sight.

It depends on the situation. Usually, there's a criminal trial, in which the individual is proven guilty or innocent, and if guilty then they're given an appropriate sentence for their crime.

Yes, I have realized that.

[Kelson wouldn't necessarily call it suicide, as he was rather against that mortal sin, but an honorable death to prevent others.]

Your worlds methods sound similar enough to mine.

[Except in his case, unless the accused was ecclesiastical, he was judge, jury and executioner.]

Unfortunately, our options are somewhat more limited here.
