[It's a nice, quiet day in Hadriel, at least as far as city-wide things go, but who knows how long that'll last. So Lance is taking advantage of it, both in terms of going out for a walk to get some fresh air and also making a post on the network; he has something important to talk about, after all.]

Hello everyone. I'd like to preface what I'm about to ask by saying that I understand some here may have concerns regarding speaking about this subject over the network, and so if you would prefer to talk in person I'm willing to meet with you.

I'm interested in hearing opinions on the issue of the Null that posted to the network a few weeks ago. In such a complicated situation it's difficult to consider all information and every possibility, and the people here have such vastly different experiences that can lead to unique conclusions and insights. The more ideas and reasons we all have to consider, the better informed our choices can be.

[Including, potentially, ideas of what to do about the situation other than the obvious two of 'kill it' or 'let it live happily ever after'.]

If you were not here for the last battle with the Null your opinion is just as important as those of the people who were present, as you're providing a viewpoint that, although lacking in specific experience, makes up for it with objectivity.

[In other words, they may not have a personal grudge against the Null that affects their opinions.]

I'd also like to note that this is all completely voluntary, and if you don't want to share your opinion that's fine; I'm just interested in hearing what people think and why, particularly due to experience and insight I may not have on a subject like this. Additionally, individuals who are still undecided in where they stand could benefit from hearing points and arguments they may not have had a chance to consider before.

I guess, but that would all be in hindsight, right? If we're right, one Null dies. If we're wrong... who knows how it's gonna affect us all.

If it turns out that the Null is telling the truth, the issue is less 'one Null dies' and more 'something that meant no harm asked for help, and instead we killed it.' Is that really something you're alright with?

[Despite that the words are a little pointed, his tone isn't; he's putting it bluntly and in different phrasing for a reason, but isn't actually trying to be accusatory.]

Dude, you're still just talking about hindsight stuff. You can say the exact same thing with what I'm saying... like - just switch up what you're saying, you know? "We honorably didn't kill a single Null" would turn into "dozens and dozens of people died because we fell for an obvious trick from our known enemies."

That's entirely possible, but hindsight and considering the potential consequences are not really all that different; one just happens after the action, and the other happens before. Considering the what might happen, and what regrets you might have in the future, are part of making a good choice.

[Kiran is clearly getting a little frustrated, but since Lance is someone he's mostly willing to trust, he's making an honest effort to not get angry. He's trying.]

I guess for me, it's like... do you wanna risk regretting the death of one person, or do you wanna risk regretting the deaths of many people? The choice seems pretty obvious...

[Lance can tell he's getting frustrated, and isn't completely sure if they're miscommunicating of Lance is too distracted with multiple conversation to catch everything, so he takes a moment to refocus before answering.]

If it were just those two options, I'd agree that it seems obvious. But there are other risks, including that we could regret giving up a resource that might've allowed us to protect ourselves better during the next attack.

I guess, but the thing could just as easily be giving us fake information. Or it could be transmitting whatever we say to it to whoever is controlling all the Null.

I mean, I don't know if I know the entire story with this thing, but has it actually done anything to make us want to trust it?

It could be. But that ties into your other question; right now, I believe the main indicator it may be telling the truth is that its behavior is beyond the scope of what we know of the Null so far. That includes being manipulative and trying to trick us, considering they seem to be pretty terrible at that.

Maybe whoever's in charge of them is just trying a new strategy or something. Like, to take us out from the inside.

I'll believe it wants to help us when it actually does something tangible that helps.

It has to be given a chance for that to happen.
