[The video starts with Kiran looking down into the camera, his face taking up most of the frame. There's a film of sweat on his forehead from the heat - or maybe from exercise, since he seems slightly out of breath.]

Hey. My name is Kiran. Welcome to the new people. Enjoy your stay. Or don't. Lemme know if you need a roommate, I guess, but only if you're not a pain in the ass.

Anyway -

[The camera suddenly jerks with movement, spinning away from Kiran's face until it points out at his surroundings. He's standing at the edge of the city, with the desert sprawling out in front of him, seemingly unending.

And... there's a monster. It's standing on the sand, glaring and growling at Kiran, preparing to charge him. But when Kiran speaks again, he's stifling a laugh.]

I think the barrier's back. Check it out - it's freaking hilarious.

[Before he's finished his sentence, the monster screeches and charges straight at him. With a startled and nervous laugh, he stumbles backwards, but the camera is steady enough to catch the monster crashing head-first into the invisible barrier surrounding the city again. It's like watching a dog ram into a glass door... except the dog is, uh, very large. And it's trying to commit murder.

As soon as it crashes not-majestically into the barrier, Kiran erupts into unabashed giggling.]

It's been doing this for the past fifteen minutes! [the sound of him slapping his knee or maybe his face can be heard in the background among his laughs. The monster stumbles around, dazed.]

After dealing with these things for weeks, it's just... oh my God, guys. Somebody bring me some popcorn.

oh my god. i think this might actually be the best thing i've seen since i got here.

You, uh. Might not want to tempt it.

[ It's not that he doesn't trust you; you've obviously been here longer than he has, but. Still. He's seen barriers fall, before, even if it wasn't this one. ]

Are you sure that's entirely safe? What if the barrier falls?

RIGHT?! looooooool

it's so dumb that it isn't even understanding what's happening either

Or what? It'll try to kill me even harder than it already is?

Entirely safe? No. More safe than so many other things about this place? So far, yes.

[And yeah, it's theoretically possible the barrier could fall, but it's been fifteen minutes and it hasn't yet. At this point, it feels about as theoretically possible as all the buildings behind him randomly collapsing.]

You do know magic barriers aren't always completely impenetrable, right? Or else one of the gods will think it's funny to let it down for a bit.

Wow. I truly did not think of that.

[the sarcasm is thick. They have the power to do "funny" things to him at any time, all the time, every day, so Kiran just kinda... lives with that fact at this point. He continues to film the monster in its futile attempt to get past the barrier.]

You almost feel sorry for it, huh? It's trying so hard.

No. Not really.

[Have a smirky, somewhat amused ex-redhead.]

It's like watching my mother trying to open a map.

[She'd said that to Dr. Lockett before. Or was it Dr. Cash? They all blend together, since they all got killed by zombies.]

i almost feel bad for it.

Too bad it's just a wall and not an electric fence. We could save someone from havin' to kill it to get anywhere out there.

My, it really does keep them out! Hope's powers really are amazing when they are at their fullest!

same. if only there were a way to tell it to give up

although i guess, if we could do that, we'd be able to tell it to not kill us too

[Surely she had good intentions when she piped in to tell him to be more careful, but as far as Kiran is concerned, it's just some boring adult telling him what to do and being condescending, so he does not respond.]

Heh, is it? How so? Is your mom okay there?

You know, that's a pretty good idea... I wonder if Hope would have the juice for that.

Yeah, I guess they are, huh?

Not that I'm particularly eager to give them compliments, but... looking at this thing try and fail to get in, I gotta give credit for that.

Juice or not, bigger question is whether he would. Maybe someone ought to tell him we've been lackin' entertainment.

Well, if Hope really does represent his namesake then he will deserve all the compliments in the world!

Either way, his powers should certainly not be underestimated! I wonder what else he can do, besides all the things we already know? [Like reviving people from the dead.]

What if it managed to call a buddy to help it out? Would it withstand that much force, do you think?

[ Honestly, he's kind of curious. The barrier they had to protect Whitestone took a lot of time and effort and magic on the part of a few very skilled magic users; no doubt this is the work of a god, he suspects, but at what price? ]

Has it ever gone down before? I don't think it was up when I got here.

I think it used to be up when the city was still underground. It got teleported up here a little while after I arrived. I'm pretty sure it wasn't here anymore when we teleported...?

Anyway... I'm hoping that Hope thought about that buddy thing. Most of these monsters aren't smart enough to coordinate like that, I think, but it's possible we could get two at once by chance.

[Actually this conversation is awkward because his mother is an alcoholic. In a not fun, not jokey way

he changes the subject]

Is you mom actually here with you in the city or are you just thinking about her?

I dunno. I'm pretty entertained at the moment. He might've heard that call.

Your guess is as good as mine. I'm still waiting for the god with the power to send us all home already. Although probably all of them can do that, and they just... don't.

That is a possibility. However, there is also the possibility that they can't and they either need more power or their power is at their limit and we need to work out how to go home ourselves. The Null have killed other versions of these gods in other worlds, after all.

[That's rough, buddy. Rita's mom isn't a mean drunk, just a stupid one.]

God no. She's in rehab again, probably. [Solid relationship right there.]

Anyway, that video's not bad for some entertainment. This place is such a drag.

[The word is loaded with agreement. After a moment, he flips the camera around to show her the monster - it's still slamming itself against the barrier, trying to get in.]

I'm sure it'll get boring eventually, but I'm gonna enjoy it 'til then, haha.

I guess. I'm just not interested in conjuring hypothetical excuses for them. [shrug]

Neither am I, but it's foolish to ignore the truth, whatever that truth is.

hmm thats not a bad idea actually... i'd say i could make a killing doing that but money isnt really a thing here lol

If it turns out to be the truth that they can't send us home, they'll get my sympathy. Until then, not so much, you know? They kidnapped us after all.

then again, you kind of win just by getting to see that in person.
