There's a creature here who killed my friend, and injured my brother. I don't know what it calls itself, but my friend describes a woman with eyes as black as pitch.

[ His eyes are far too bright to be human, a feral fire lit behind them ]

Have a care for yourselves, for it has, apparently, killed at least once and tried to do so more than that.

[ And then almost absently ]

[ He makes a low distressed noise ]

Oh lady! That is a grievous hurt to bear. I am sorry.

So am I. I didn't suspect my dad until right before I did.

[ He hisses softly ]

Yeah. I was given a ring that kept the demon from possessing me and kept him from killing me. [she raises her hand to show the ring] So it was my dad who stabbed me to death.

[ Rings again growls a memory in his ear, and Maglor winces at her tale ]

Your poor father. And you died, before coming here? I am so sorry, lady.

[rings again, indeed. she's likely to ask if the magic used by it to protect her can be duplicated once everything settles down]

Yeah. I was as dead as they get. And not even the angels would save me. And, it's been months. I'm getting used to it. There are worse places to be.

[ Maglor will direct her to Celebrimbor, and ask her to go very gentle ]

There are, but I could wish that your arrival had not been so cruel. There seem a fair few who are drawn here from death.

I--well. I was expecting to die. But yeah, it seems like here's a popular spot for those who died. Makes me wonder how and why the Door chooses us.

It does seem fond of those close to, or just after death. [ He grimaces - all four of his kin here are from that sort of timing ]

I suppose such a timing provides a rather potent emotional burst.

Probably? I mean, death's enough of a shock to the system. Add in all of this [she makes a gesture indicating all of Hadriel] and you've got some very emotional people.

Which is exactly what they want. [ He agrees ] I suspect that is what the Door looks for, in truth, that emotional vulnerability.

I suppose hunger will do odd things to a body, but they really approached the whole process entirely wrong.

They approach just about everything entirely wrong.

Probably because of who they are. They can't relate to people because they aren't--and never were--people.

[ he smiles a little ]

You would hope so, but as you say, they clearly have not - from sheer incomprehension, or bloody minded stubborness remains to be seen.

I think it's a little of column A and a little of column B. Even after Delight screwed us over, they seem to think they can't fail or make a bad choice.

You know, what's truly tragic is that I think if they had come and simply asked there may well have been folk who would have come willing, out of the kindness of their hearts. But instead they take and keep, and so engender more resentment than anything else.

Yeah. Hell, I probably would've taken them up on it, if asked. Better to be alive here than dead back home. But they didn't ask and so... [she shrugs]
