but becoming a Reaper was tough. not only was she not given any time to mourn herself and adjust to her new circumstances, she was expected to do the job pretty much immediately after death. which meant confronting even more death with some serious unresolved issues about death in general]
I guess.
Betty, one of the other Reapers? She was my friend.
But now she's gone.
[there's a long pause, followed by]
I miss her.

Betty had been a Reaper for something like eighty years.
And I think she just got tired of waiting for that last job.
So she hitched a ride on someone else's afterlife.
Never heard from her since.
