So, uh, I was kind of wondering. How many people here died before they came here? And how many are now immortal?

[A friend, huh? Didn't see that one coming. The Girl's seemed as wary as the rest of them about making actual friends.]

[George is perpetually amazed that she gets anyone to like her, much less consider her a friend]

[Jet can't imagine how it's been for her, living in the desert for so long, alone. There's a certain sense of responsibility in it - of being the last one out, the one who should have escaped with her. If he hadn't turned around...]

She told me about BLI and how you guys fought against them.

[really? a world where there's a Grim Reaper and everyone knows of her? in George's world, they have to keep what they are a secret]

No. Not much. I didn't wanna be pushy.

[Past tense. Just the Girl left to fight against them now, but there's a great amount of comfort in knowing that she'll be successful.]

What she tell you about the Witch?

She told me that the Witch comes to take your soul after getting stuff that was meaningful to you out of a mailbox.

Mm, that's the short of it. Never got to meet her. Came here too soon.

[Would there be anything of his left? Would BLI even let them rest? It's hard to say.]

...so. This kind of is your afterlife? I'm sorry.

[and she sounds genuinely sorry]

Guess it is. Really confused at first.

I don't blame you. This is a shitty excuse for an afterlife.

Got no basis for comparison. [Just stories. Things so many of them believe but can never be sure of.]

Where do people go in your world?

Me, neither. [she's seen the afterlives that people go into, but nothing about what happens next]

The afterlife. I have no idea what it's like 'cause I've never been there.

Don't have stories? I ain't been there either.

But we tell tales about it.

It depends. If you've been good, supposedly you go to Heaven where you spend all your time singing to Jesus. So, boring. If you've been bad, you go to Hell where you burn. So, gross.

[here has to be an awfully weird afterlife]

Sounds like you heard most of them already. Not got much for what comes next, but it's supposed to be better.

[A better place, somewhere they won't be hunted day and night by BLI and the Dracs.]

We all hope for something better than what the world gave us. Maybe some of us are lucky enough to get it.
