[The sound of a lightsaber is unmistakable. Anakin wields the weapon with ease, running through the techniques in rapid succession. He keeps at it until he is noticeably fatigued. Then he speaks:]

If someone told you that there is a force that connects all things, would you believe them? Do you think there is a higher purpose to this world? Or are some of us stuck here until we lose our minds?

[Is insanity a higher purpose?]

I sometimes wonder if all of this is an exercise in patience. [A quality he lacks. Has always lacked.]

You mean he could see his opponent's next move beforehand? That's not as common amongst Jedi, but it's damn helpful when you're in a race or in battle.

[He relied on it heavily as a kid. Actually, he still does.]

Never sure. He talked a lot of winding mess around the sense he made.

[Did you ever meet anyone who talked so much in extended metaphors that actually understanding what he was saying could be a chore in itself?

Especially when he was high, which was often.]

But he was the best shot in the Zones, no doubt. You always wanted to have him on-side when shit went sideways in a clap. Or if you needed someone finding.

It sounds like we would have a lot in common. [He could always get Obi-Wan and him out of tight spaces with his abilities. Even if his once Master thought he was crazy and reckless.]

I can use a lightsaber better than a blaster. Actually, as long as I'm not unconscious or stunned for some reason, blasters really don't have an effect on me.

Maybe you would.

[He leaves out the part where Cherri Cola all but betrayed them. Where the man who had pledged his life to the cause backed out at the last moment for the sake of his morals (he said, though Jet suspected he was just afraid). Leaves out the part where if he'd come along, they might have all made it out alive.

Because Cherri never missed, and they could have used that kind of certainty.

But Jet isn't sure that Cherri is the kind of person anyone would want to aspire to have too much in common with anymore.]

My sword. [He ignites the blade, letting Jet see the bright blue laser. The color might not suit him anymore - or maybe it does? - but Anakin is fond of his lightsaber and he never feels truly whole without it.]

I think you can probably see where it gets its name.

Ah. Yeah.

[A rare flash of surprise crosses his face. It looks... oddly familiar, but he can't place where he might have seen such a thing before (always more Party's interest than his).

He doesn't need much more of an explanation, however. A scar on his chest and the damage to one eye is evidence enough of just how much damage light can do.]
