I have a thing to ask; a thing that is not acceptable in my world, but it is part of my story and I think I must acknowledge it. I have noticed that other residents of Hadriel share half of my inclination, at least, and I must ask:

Is it possible for one man or woman to be attracted to both genders? I mean no offense. I admit that my first love - unrequited - was female. My wife was surely female! But there was a male...briefly...though he was naught but a monster seeking to ravage the world.

Is that what it is called? We do not have a word for it on Arda.

My people usually love once in their life. My situation is...uncommon to say the least.

And my dad's a bit of a slut. We don't always have to take after the people we're related too.

No, that is true. But I am not related to all Elves. Not truly. It is more...our way. We marry once, we enjoy several centuries of passion, we produce children and that is that. Even if we lose them, we are unlikely to wed again.

But my great-grandfather did and my father did not remain with my mother. Our line must be different.

Because I do not know of an Elf that has ever felt that way.

Maybe they just never said anything about it because it wasn't deemed acceptable. Doesn't mean it never happened before.

Perhaps? I have my doubts, but that could be so.

I like to think I am not alone.

How many elves are there where you're from?

Maybe your line is different. Or maybe things change. Either way, don't be stuck because it's always been done a certain way. Be true to yourself

Thousands. There are more on Valinor.

And you really think that every single one of them is 100 percent straight?

That is the problem. I do not know my heart anymore. I was attracted to a woman here, but that could have only been by chance.

Straight? As in they...prefer...the opposing sex?

Many must be or our population would be much smaller!

But I cannot speak for their hearts.

I think you might be over thinking things.

Straight is more they only prefer the opposing.

What you're attracted to and what you actually do are very different things. I'd bet that there's more than just one person out of all of your kind who isn't attracted solely to the opposite gender.

My father isn't. (And his uncle and cousin, actually.)

Thinking about this in reference to myself is strange.

It's a time honored tradition. And it might help you out. You can't know who you're attracted to if you don't, like, look at people.

There's nothing wrong in looking.

I...shouldn't.

My wife is dead. I should remain single. (But he is lonely. Much of the time, actually, and in a way his family members can't help.)

But it's rude.

.....So your wife is dead and now you're punishing yourself by being lonely and never looking at another person again?
