[ The video shook a little before finally landing on his face. Well, the profile of his face. Seth had turned it on without realizing then stepped away. He glanced back, catching something moving in his peripheral.

Shit.

[ A look of illumination graced his features and he stopped his approach to turn off the feed. Seth cleared his throat, his expression more accepting of their surrounding circumstance than his frustrated focus of seconds ago. What could he say? He was glad to have a speaking voice again. Might as well put it to use. ]

If there's somethin' that getting sucked from one mess to another's taught me, it's that nothin' lasts forever. All this shit's temporary... I couldn't talk soon after ending up here. My better half couldn't hear. And some of you got acquainted with the pain in the ass who lives with us, Leo. --Who by the way, can't exactly help what he is and didn't fuckin' ask to be made but still lives buy a code. But I digress...

[ Seth sat back after the brief introduction of sorts. ]

I'm Seth. Seth Gecko. You've already met Leo on here. As my Bonnie once called him, 'a walkin'-talkin' after shave commercial' who sang for you. Margo hasn't graced you all with an appearance yet but that's probably thanks to the roller coaster we've been through since arriving. She'll no doubt talk about magic when she does. Me? Well, I'm just a run of the mill guy from Kansas City. No powers, though not too bad with a piece.

[ He leaned forward and pulled out a gun tucked at the small of his back, brought it to view then returned it. ]

So if I haven't bored you all to hell yet, maybe some of who's left can enlighten me on what life's been like here? It seems the breaking up into islands is something new. Before ending up here, the three of us were at a place in France--or at least, it seemed French--that nobody could make a sound or chance gettin' torn apart by monsters.

Anybody sharin' insight about life here, you've earned yourself some manual labor. Or anythin' else I can come up with.

[ He offered an expectant look at the end. Not quite a smile, but a signature move when trying to get something without the means to obtain it otherwise. ]

[Oh, video replies, Caedra hates you so. It's simpler to just write out a message and be done with it. But she also hates the limitations of the writing capabilities the tool has, and she's certainly learned in her years that many people can't resist a pretty face.

So she switches on the feed to reply, with an easy smile and a little wave.]

Nice to meet you, Seth. I'm Caedra. I've been here for a few months, so I suppose I may know a few things by now that could help you out? I can't say I pay a lot of attention to some of what happens here, but I'm happy to try to answer questions!

I do have a request, though. That 'piece' - that's a gun, isn't it? I don't know much about them. Do you think you could teach me to shoot one?

[That style of weaponry is so foreign to her and there's a certain odd elegance to it. She's curious. And it wouldn't hurt to have another skill in her arsenal, especially should her magic be stripped away further by their captors.]

[Congrats, Seth, you mentioned Leo, so now you have Michael's attention. So he has roommates. One of which has a gun, and the other of which probably knows how to cast spells. Good to know.]

What all do you want to know?
Most of the time we just kind of hang out and keep busy.
And then once or twice a month the gods do something to us.
Sometimes it's fine but other times it, uh, really sucks.
Like the last one, that was pretty bad.
About once a month more people show up, and they usually come with monsters.
And like, an assortment of random stuff? We got beanie babies one time.

[The beanie babies are of course incredibly relevant and exactly what Seth was asking about.]

Once a month, the gods do weird shit to us, like the whole deaf thing. Their goal is to provoke an emotion. They feed on our emotions. Usually, they only do it once a month and it lasts about a week, so it sucks. But it's doable.

What you might not have heard about is the Null. They're a race of mechanical beings who hate all emotion and have the goal of getting rid of it. They'd also like to kill the gods. Personally, I don't think we've seen the last of them, so you might wanna save your ammo.

No. To the guy posting this, do not let this demon get a gun. It'll just kill you and then go kill some other people for fun.

Don't worry, Peaches. I'm not exactly on the best term with demons. Well, except Leo. So there's that and that I don't give up my piece easily. I don't mind giving lessons. Anythin' goes wrong and my buddy gets a meal out of it.

That work for you, Caedra?

[ Maybe, just maybe Seth saw this also as a matchmaking opportunity for his adopted younger brother. ]

[ Thanks to the realm before Hadriel, Seth finally got used to texting which came in handy when he couldn't talk. Maybe this person couldn't either. ]

[ It wouldn't be Seth if he didn't immediately want to defy authority. ]

Null? Like null and void?

[ He had to admit, that was a pretty creepy name for a monster. Monsters. His face didn't show any disbelief. Seth had come face to face with more than a fair share of monsters. Demons. Both good and bad but wasn't worth mentioning now. ]

Wouldn't the gods wanna get rid of the mad robots themselves since it screws with their game plan?

Sure, they try to resist. Last thing, I lost my voice so I was more annoyed than I was scared.

[George knows that feel. she hates doing as she's told]

Exactly like null and void.

[she's glad he seems to be taking her seriously. it seems to her like a lot of the residents have forgotten about the Null entirely]

They do. Sorrow got killed by the Null. We just now were able to bring him back. But the Null's real target is Hope. Hope doesn't just bring us back to life, he brings the gods back to life, too.

Even lessons are too much. It can't be trusted. It already killed two people that I know about and it tried to kill me, too. Don't fall into the trap of thinking you can get the upper hand with it.

[Well now she's curious about this Leo fellow, but also unsure if he's using 'demon' as a colloquialism - or if she actually has one of her own kind here. She's leaning toward no, because she suspects had another tanar'ri shown up, she would have found out sooner. Still. Interesting.]

Laura is just being overly worried. It seems I've acquired something of a reputation that others don't understand. Yes, that sounds fair, I'd be very interested to learn!

Don't act like I'm a child who doesn't know what the fuck she's talking about. You know better. And you haven't gotten a bad enough reputation!

[Caedra maintains her composure, but the look in her eyes, as well as that slight smirk, suggests amusement rather than anything else.]

Calm down. I'm trying to have a polite conversation with this gentleman.

[Laura plasters on her sweetest smile but if looks could kill...]

Fine. I’m calmly telling this grown adult who apparently knows about demons that if he gives you gun lessons, he’ll be sorry.

I hear that.

[ His sentiment exactly over losing his. Irritation was clear on his features.

He gave a nod as she explained further. He'd owe this one something if she was being genuine. Seth was a decent read of people and it seemed like she was telling the truth, unlike the other answers he got. ]

Wait, what? ...Sorrow's a god? You're sayin' the message from Hope was a god and not the Welcome Wagon 'round here? There's no Apollo or Zeus? What was with Colosseum when we got here?

There a way to make this chat private? I'm not real good with these things.

[ One thing's for sure... he believes that she believes what she's saying. Yet in his experience, he ended up allies with a once enemy. --A once enemy who tried killing him and took his brother from him for a period of time. So Seth can't readily cancel out the idea of getting to know as many around as he could. There was the whole concept also of keeping your friends close but your enemies closer too. ]

[ These two seemed... friendly. Seth let them talk before he finally chimed in. ]

SO... Any truth to what Laura's sayin'?

[ He asked pointedly, ready to gauge Caedra's response. ]

There is the matter of askin' for info before I repay the favor. Just sayin'.

[ She appears on screen looking flabbergasted, bewildered, and maybe even a little pissed off. Her mouth hangs open slightly as she stares for a second or two, then she raises a hand as if to ask for him to give her a second. Margo doesn't make the video private because, really? You expect her to give a shit who sees this? She shakes her head. ]

Baby, what are you doing?

[Caedra shrugs, still apparently unbothered. In her opinion, Laura has come off as looking completely ridiculous here and her outburst was entirely unwarranted.]

If I wanted to kill someone I wouldn't make up some false pretense about wanting lessons. I won't hide what I am, since most everyone else here knows already. If you're still concerned, I would prefer we talk in person. After you've had time to ask your questions, of course. I did say I would answer what I could.

[ Uh oh. He thought she'd be happy he was trying to connect with people. Get a lay of the land, especially now that they were suddenly on islands and Leo hated the water. Margo didn't look pleased in the least. His brow was knit, confusion heavy on his face. ]

Just tryin'ta find out what people know about bein' here?

I mean, you could. It wouldn't be the first [ Seth had a feeling it wouldn't be the last either ] that a demon's lied to me.

[ He gave a shrug and looked the part of being unaffected but watched all parties involved warily. There was some truth to what Caedra said. Really, it could be Laura trying something. Seth had to find out what she would have to gain by it. She made it clear what Caedra had to gain. ]

Where d'you wanna meet?

[It's smart to be cautious. Caedra lies as readily and as easily as breathing. But she smiles at the offer to meet up, regardless. Perhaps he too is curious - she understands that.]

Well, which island are you on? It's probably easier for me to come to you than for you to try and cross the water.

[ Margo would never try to keep Seth on a leash. She respects him far too much for that. She would, however, protect him, and that's exactly what she thinks she's doing now. Taking in a breath, she forces a smile onto her face. ]

Is that a demon you're making friends with?

[ If anything, it had been all the freedom that Margo gave him for Seth to realize he didn't want to be apart from her. They'd been lucky so far. Luck wasn't really his thing but he seemed to be pushing the envelope with it. He could tell Margo was trying to be diplomatic and did his best not to push her.

With as innocent a face as he could muster... ]

Seems that way? I mean, I don't know about makin' friends but I didn't close off this broadcast to anyone. Met Leo like this, remember? Maybe I find him a girlfriend?

[ There. Margo had to like that idea. Right?
Or she'd remember how Amaru tried to repeatedly kill him and Seth should know better than offer to meet up with a demon alone. ]

[ That was either nice of her or smart. Possibly both.

Her smile wasn't met with disdain or even overt caution. Seth knew how to be democratic. Yet he wasn't exactly the smiley type. There was more of a smirk in agreement that he returned to Caedra. ]

Sweetheart, I don't shit where I sleep. We definitely won't be meetin' at my place. What would my girl think? I can be an asshole but I'm not that kind of asshole.

[ His head cantered in thought for a second then straightened. ]

How 'bout the orchard? Been meanin' to pick up some food there. I can kill two birds with one stone.

Oh.

[ Oh as in Oh, like hell am I letting you charge into this unprotected. Margo maintains her smile and nods. Finding Leo a girlfriend sounds like a great idea, actually. It might even make their dinners more fun. It's only a great idea if Seth doesn't die, though. ]

I'm all for it. Count me in.

[ You're stuck with a battle magic casting shadow, Seth. Your Bonnie is going to protect you no matter what. ]
