This is long overdue, but Tranquility's post and some of the responses to it made it apparent that we needed a new summary of what's going on, especially for anyone who's arrived in only the last few months. I've put together a brief history here, specifically for the conflict between the Null and the gods, the issue of the rogue Null in the city, and the Door.
[Also hi, everyone. Lance is serious business at the moment, but it's just 'focused' serious rather than 'everything is awful' serious. Which is a nice change for him, honestly.]
Hopefully that'll kind of help a little, and feel free to ask questions or make corrections, especially if you've been here longer or know more than I do about this; it's also a pretty brief summary, so if I left out anything you think is important just say so. Remember, though, that this is supposed to be facts, not editorializing about who's telling the truth or what side to be on.
[And okay, all of that said--]
It's also been awhile since I mentioned it, so for everyone new, I'm Dr. Lance Sweets; I'm a clinical psychologist. Adjusting to being here--as well as dealing with everything that can happen in this place--can be kind of difficult, especially when you don't know anyone, so I just wanted to mention that it's always okay to call or send me a message, even if we've never met. It also doesn't have to be an emergency; you're not wasting my time, so don't worry about anything like that.
[He won't mention it but he's usually not doing anything important; it would be hard to waste his time even if he were the type to call it such a thing.]
[[ooc: Just a brief mention here that although Lance is totally willing to meet with people for therapy sessions, I'd prefer to start handwaving these meetings unless we do prior planning for them, mostly because I'm absolutely not a psychologist and so threading them out is not easy. However, I'm definitely still interested in oocly discussing what they might've talked about and what Lance might've suggested, so just send me a PM!]]

Re: Text
people normally come in waves like this?

now that i have all this info, is there something i should be doing with it? Do you have a resistance?
tho i guess there;s more than 2 sides to this.
Text
[Which of course also tend to overlap often, and have their own 'sub' sides, and it's a mess.]
As for what you should do with the information, it's up to you. It's just best for everyone involved if decisions are made with as much information as possible, especially in situations like this where the gods are looking at all our answers.
Text
its only been a few days. hell i dont know what the right answer is.
Text
But I doubt there's a 'right' answer.
Text
youre probably going to end up with a war on your hands. arent there people who are dead? who want to stay here? and then people who want to go back. they wont be able to find a middle ground.
Text
Those issues are part of why gaining control of the Door is such an important thing to some people; it's the only chance some of the people here have. The gods have indicated before it might be possible to do different things for different people, and the more control they have over it the more likely that is.
Text
Text
As for the Door itself, apparently it's dangerous if we get too close to it, but it should be overall beneficial to us if the gods gain more control over it. I don't know of any specific downsides.
Text
Dangerous how? Are the people looking for it going to vaporize?
Thanks by the way for answering all these questions. I hate being the clueless rookie.
Text
[Which he'll explain further if Pratt hasn't heard of it, but for now that's the best way to put it.]
It's no problem; you're welcome. It's hard enough being here even when you know exactly what's going on.
Text
like tentacles and people going insane by looking at it? they must really want to get out of here to risk that.
Text
[He's making a horrified face that thankfully can't be seen over text.]
But yeah, the rest of it. I think right now the plan is more to get the pieces and let the gods handle things than to directly try to access the Door ourselves, though.
Text
good luck to them.
Text
But I'm definitely not going myself.
[Mostly because he avoids water if possible, and also doesn't have any interest in being stuck on a boat with a bunch of people. But when it comes to the Door itself he's not going to be too useful either, so he'll just avoid that as well.]
Text
Never been on the ocean before and I'm not going to be much help puking over the side the whole time.
Thanks for all the info.

[Being new sucks. He doesn't remember his first month well, having been very seriously hurt and basically just taking it one minute at a time, but he does remember that being totally confused and alone was unfun.]
