This is long overdue, but Tranquility's post and some of the responses to it made it apparent that we needed a new summary of what's going on, especially for anyone who's arrived in only the last few months. I've put together a brief history here, specifically for the conflict between the Null and the gods, the issue of the rogue Null in the city, and the Door.

[Also hi, everyone. Lance is serious business at the moment, but it's just 'focused' serious rather than 'everything is awful' serious. Which is a nice change for him, honestly.]

Hopefully that'll kind of help a little, and feel free to ask questions or make corrections, especially if you've been here longer or know more than I do about this; it's also a pretty brief summary, so if I left out anything you think is important just say so. Remember, though, that this is supposed to be facts, not editorializing about who's telling the truth or what side to be on.

It's also been awhile since I mentioned it, so for everyone new, I'm Dr. Lance Sweets; I'm a clinical psychologist. Adjusting to being here--as well as dealing with everything that can happen in this place--can be kind of difficult, especially when you don't know anyone, so I just wanted to mention that it's always okay to call or send me a message, even if we've never met. It also doesn't have to be an emergency; you're not wasting my time, so don't worry about anything like that.

[He won't mention it but he's usually not doing anything important; it would be hard to waste his time even if he were the type to call it such a thing.]

I can't imagine how weird it would be to be in your situation, but if it helps you're not the only one. It happens occasionally.

Yes, I've heard that it does, but... it's still a little weird.

[Although they didn't speak before, at least they're speaking now.]

I take it you've been here a long time, then?

A year and three or four months.

[He's lost track, and would've lost more track if he didn't have some convenient ways to mark every six months.]

Some people have been here more than two years, though.

Wow. That's a long time.

[Jill isn't sure what it would be like to be here that long, though she doesn't know how long she was here the last time.]

You must miss your home.

[The comment gives Lance pause a moment because yes, he does miss his home, but it's more complicated than that; if he returns home to the time he came from, he only has a few minutes left. His only chance is being able to go to a different place or time, if the gods are able and willing to do that at some point in the future, so the longer he stays here the better his chances actually are.

After a moment he pulls himself from his thoughts, remembering he needs to reply.]

Yeah. But it's okay; I've gotten used to it.

Seems like this would be hard to get used to.

It took awhile.

[To get as 'used to it' as possible.]

Hopefully you won't be here long enough to do so, though, provided you want to go back home.

Some people don't want to go home? Where would they go? They can't want to stay here, can they?

[Jill frowns a little, since it means some people are coming from really terrible situations. Jill's world is far from perfect, but she can't imagine not going home.]

They might be able to stay here; I think some people want to. Others would like to go to the worlds of friends they've made here.

[Which is Lance's plan, if the gods can't send him to an earlier point in time in his world.]

[Jill smiles a little.]

I guess going with a new friend would be alright. It's a shame, though, that some people wouldn't want to go home. They must have it rough.

Yeah, I think for some of them their situations are just really bad in general. Other people can't go back even if they wanted to, though; some of them are no longer alive in their worlds.

[For a moment, Jill thinks about her last memories and a cold chill runs down her spine.]

I guess I understand that.
