This is long overdue, but Tranquility's post and some of the responses to it made it apparent that we needed a new summary of what's going on, especially for anyone who's arrived in only the last few months. I've put together a brief history here, specifically for the conflict between the Null and the gods, the issue of the rogue Null in the city, and the Door.

[Also hi, everyone. Lance is serious business at the moment, but it's just 'focused' serious rather than 'everything is awful' serious. Which is a nice change for him, honestly.]

Hopefully that'll kind of help a little, and feel free to ask questions or make corrections, especially if you've been here longer or know more than I do about this; it's also a pretty brief summary, so if I left out anything you think is important just say so. Remember, though, that this is supposed to be facts, not editorializing about who's telling the truth or what side to be on.

It's also been awhile since I mentioned it, so for everyone new, I'm Dr. Lance Sweets; I'm a clinical psychologist. Adjusting to being here--as well as dealing with everything that can happen in this place--can be kind of difficult, especially when you don't know anyone, so I just wanted to mention that it's always okay to call or send me a message, even if we've never met. It also doesn't have to be an emergency; you're not wasting my time, so don't worry about anything like that.

[He won't mention it but he's usually not doing anything important; it would be hard to waste his time even if he were the type to call it such a thing.]

What happened to the weapons?

I'm not sure about all of them. I think some were destroyed, but they may not all be accounted for; the people who got them weren't exactly the trustworthy types.

[So tracing their activities is easier said than done, considering they were or are often quite secretive and shady.]

Then they could still be a threat now. With those people.

They could be, if any of them are left, but without knowing for sure there's only so much we can do about it at the moment.

[So it's a low priority as far as he's concerned. Besides, no one's used them in the time since the attack, so they might really all be accounted for after all.]

Keeping it in mind is enough.

( not having the information was the most dangerous part of it. they may not be a thing anymore but they also could be, and that means that they could appear at any time )

Knowing that a threat is present leaves us more prepared than forgetting about it.

Hopefully it isn't even actually a threat, and they really have all been taken care of by now.

There is a lot, but it isn't good for anyone to worry about all of them at once.

[It's part of why Lance's profession is so in demand here, after all.]

Focus on what you can do something about, as well as some harmless distractions when a break is needed.

I'm in a place that's highly unfamiliar with 'gods' that have me at their whim and monsters that seemingly would wish to kill me. What do you believe I can do?

There are a bunch of projects going on to make life here earlier. Have you looked into any of them?

Is that our goal? To adjust ourselves to living here?

No, but we do have to survive being here. Doing things to make life easier, while working on larger issues like the Door pieces, is beneficial to everyone.

There are many ways to survive. What would you consider necessary?

I worked at the Clinic for awhile, personally, but the other things people do--projects to improve living conditions, research on our situation, providing somewhere to drink, and several others--are all just as important in their own ways. Is there something you're missing most, by being here? Aside from particular people.

No.

( way to be awkward, vanessa. there are a few things that she misses but nothing that seems imperative to her survival. she's lived with less )

There are enough resources here to live.

Then maybe focus on one of the larger goals, like finding the Door or figuring out a way to fight the Null.

[Or do nothing, if she has problems with every suggestion, but he's putting this nicely. It's understandable that some people want to just be difficult when they arrive, for a variety of reasons.]
