[the video opens on Laura sitting on the edge of her bed, legs crossed at the knee. she's dressed and madeup in full eighties regalia, but her expression is more on the serious side than playful.

she's seen multiple posts about Caedra and has learned from their mistakes. so she's playing as nicely as she can]

Look, I get why people are so worried about Caedra going on a rampage and trying to kill a lot of people. It makes sense to be scared about that. But what if I had a way to keep her from being able to kill people in the first place?

[she holds up her right hand, a ring on her ring finger]

This ring keeps Caedra from being able to kill me. So I'm willing to let someone who knows about magic to study it and try to duplicate its magic so that other jewelry and trinkets can be enchanted with the same magic and passed out to everyone. That way, she wouldn't be able to kill anyone, even if she does decide to play nicely this time and not attack everyone.

I'm willing to turn the ring over to anyone who thinks they can figure out a way to use it to keep others safe. All I ask is that I get the ring back before she defrosts.

Guildwork is, and demons sort of are. There's a shitload of 'em, but they don't mess with people very often. When they do, that's where I come in.

[Wait. He should clarify.]

Demons vary a ton, though. Not all of them are as dangerous as Caedra. A bunch of them are just annoying.

[Some aren't even sentient, really. And that question gets a laugh out of him.]

[she's imagining demons minding their own business. she's trying to, at least]

Okay. Not that I woulda held it against you if you weren't.

It's because they're not native to our plane. There's a bunch of different planes of existence where I'm from, and it's tough to cross between them unless you're working with powerful magic or you can find a natural crossover point, and those are rare.

["Annoying" is maybe putting it lightly. Demons aren't something to mess with under any circumstances, but for someone experienced like him, a lot of demons have lost their "wow" factor.]

A lot of them are just your average nasty monsters, like the shit that comes through the Door each month. All demons just want destruction and chaos, but the mindless ones are easy enough to outsmart.

A crossover point? Sounds like the Door. Something like that anyway.

[Goku has helped her become more used to demons, but his kind--the kind that accepts that they're a potential danger to humanity and takes steps to lessen that danger--are rare]

Unfortunately, Caedra is not exactly mindless.

I see why you think that, but it's not the same thing. A crossover point is more like, I don't know, a curtain? It's a point between two planes where the divide isn't as secure, so things can slip through. The Door's an actual portal.

[He doesn't quite understand how it all works on a scientific level, but he does know it's not the same.]

No, she's not, which is why I think I can reason with her.

All of that's way above my pay grade. I took physics in school, but there was nothing about crossover points or portals in there.

Yeah, that shit's more of a magic thing than a physics thing.

She's as good as I am, and we've done jobs like this before. She's the best person to play backup, trust me.

[As long as she can handle staying quiet and letting Harlan play negotiator, that is, but he's confident in her nonetheless.]

[she's never met Kyna or even heard of her, really, but if he says she can handle it, that's good enough for her]

[It doesn't sit well with him, but it's the best he can hope to do right now. And having done as much as he can with the ring too, he says goodbye and heads home. He might be stretching himself a bit thin these days.]
