Network video feed

[A quick look shows that Sonya's quarters seems to have escaped the whole 'island of misfit toys' curse. Much as she should be relieved by this, she seems more despondent and drained then anything.]

Up until this point, I've tried to keep personal history and stories from the network, but..fuck it, not like most of us are sleeping anyway. [There's no music in the background, something that those who know her would find strange. With electricity being in low supply, she's trying to conserve it for necessities only.]

For those who I haven't met, my name's Sonya Blade, Lieutenant colonel in the United States military if it means anything.

Back home, I have a two month old daughter who needs to be fed every few hours, even at night. Nothing I'm not used to, military shifts usually mean short nights anyway, but..I keep waking up out of habit and thinking Cass needs to be fed..or taken care of in some way.

Point being, it feels too damn empty in this place.

Does anyone need a place to wait out whatever's going on? I have enough room for two or three people, so long as one doesn't mind sharing a bed. As far as I know, nothing in my place is alive or moving.

[Margaery looks aghast]

The so-called gods took you from your infant child? Is nothing beneath them?

[She can't help but scoff, though it's less in Margery's direction and more towards the so-called gods.] Come on, Margery, it's a blessing in disguise, really. This place is fucked up enough when it comes to our own survival-imagine how bad things would be if I had to worry about the care and safety of an infant.

[Rational advice, but it doesn't make it hurt any less. The thought of trying to take care of Cassie in this place would scare her to no end.]

Like I said earlier, I would've had to leave back home anyway. Atleast there, I would've been prepared for it, tried to get in as much time as possible. She's still small, I could carry her around while in the office. There wasn't a warning for this, I was literally in my sleepwear and trying to settle her to sleep before finding myself here again.

[She couldn't hide the scorn from her voice if she tried, a curse at the end of her words going unspoken.]

[her voice gains a small amount of heat to it, though it's directed at the so-called gods] They should have left you alone with your daughter. It would be the decent thing to do, but we both know well that the beings who run this place aren't acquainted with decency.

[some things ought to be left alone. a new mother is one of them]

It's brutally unfair to both you and your child. They ought to be ashamed of themselves.

[She sighed, leaning her head against her fist.] They're gods, all they care about is their own existence-we just happen to be the means for it.

[Knowing that gods exist in her world hadn't entirely endured her to them. For all Raiden and Fujin have actually given their aid, she wonders if it's for their sake alone and not just for Earthrealm.]

That doesn't mean it's right. Gods, no matter where you are? They're all the same. They take and take and take and don't care what it costs us to give.

[and Margaery refuses to give any more to any god]

Well, the silverlining is that..whenever I'm sent back, it'll be like I never left. Happened last time after all-it'll happen again.

[It wasn't an excuse and she was hardly about to forgive the gods for this, but anything to make it easier to swallow.] There's one god back home, Raiden...he's as much a nuisance as the others, but..he tries, and he has helped in his own way-even if sometimes he focuses so much on the forest he doesn't see the trees.

I suppose so, but you must miss her terribly.

[that would make sense, given her circumstances. though, she imagines it must be a nightmare to bear a child and be separated so soon] He sounds somewhat similar to the so-called gods. So focused on what benefits them as a whole, they fail to see how they effect us as individuals.

Always, to some degree or so. Keeping distracted makes it easier to bear.[Compartmentalizing was something she'd become very good at from her time in the military. She never thought so far a head, only on what they had to deal with now. In this place, when survival was uncertain, it only made it easier.]

He wants to keep Earthrealm safe, we all do. He just doesn't...[She forced herself to breath, to remind herself that the war against Outworld was done and overwith.] He failed to realize that putting all your hopes into one plan never works out in real life. He saves earthrealm, that's great, but can it really be called a victory when so many of your allies are lost, or so many of the people you mean to protect are dead.

[She swallowed hard, inwardly scowling for loosing control like this.] You want to come over for a bit? Don't even have to spend the night.

Then I will do my best to keep you distracted. I'd imagine you learned new fighting techniques while you were away. I would learn them, too. [there, a tradition they're both used to. she hopes it helps]

...definitely like our so-called gods. Who tally up the victories in terms of how it benefits them, not Hadriel as a whole. Shortsighted and easily distracted.

[she gives what's meant to be a comforting smile] I shall. And I will. You don't need to be alone tonight.

In my line of work, adapting in combat can literally be a matter of life or death. [She does attempt a small smile on this. For the simple fact that she survived.] So I don't know about techniques, but have certainly improvised on my own style. Maybe given time, you could demonstrate the same.

[She just had enough energy to trade a well placed jab, because this was Margery.] Thank you.

I certainly hope so. When I go to Matt's world, I'll need all of the improvement I can muster.

[the video opens on a very serious looking sixteen year old girl, a giant Mabari wardog by her side]

My name is Lady Mariane Cousland. It's a pleasure to meet you. I would not mind sheltering at your dwelling as long as you don't mind Chance. [she nods to the Mabari]

[The dog nearly gets a double take from her (a rather impressive feat all things considered), but she's seen enough to quickly get over the shock.]

So long as he doesn't tear the place up or make a mess of things, I don't mind. [She gives the directions of the tower where she lives and the floor number.]

[Mabari are rather impressive for those who haven't seen them before]

He's very well behaved and he knows better than to chew on furniture or anything else.

[she gets the directions and nods] I'll be over shortly.

[She'd make a quick about chewing on furniture being a good thing in this case, but she doesn't want to press her luck.] Good to know. See you then.

Yes, see you then.

[about fifteen minutes later, there's a tentative knock on the door]

Sonya? I'm here.

[She heard the knock when it happened, but it was so quiet and tentative-at the very least she knew it wasn't a trick-that for a moment she didn't entirely recognize it for what it was.

She's still dressed warm against the cold, or as much as she could manage when she answered the door.] Please, come in.

[she is terribly decisive when it comes to battle, but far less so when it comes to people.

she is wearing armor with a mammoth-fur cloak on over it. Chance stands by her side, wagging his tail in greeting]

Yes, thank you.

[she enters and looks around herself for a moment before perching on the couch]

Thank you for your gracious invitation.

[The armor reminded her of something she'd seen in a history book, or perhaps some other realm. A part of her understands the need for it, but a small part almost feels insulted that she was wearing it, as though she wasn't here to relax.] You're welcome.

[Large dog or not, she lets Chance smell her hand a bit before scratching his ear.] Please, make yourself comfortable. I have tea if you'd like some.

[this is her relaxing, unfortunately. she's so used to an attack coming at any time from any direction that it's . . . difficult for her to let her guard down. add into the fact that the clothing on offer at the shops seems to be ridiculous, the skirts and dresses entirely too short to be decent.

Chance yips happily at her and butts his head against her hand] I will. And I would love some tea, thank you.

[She headed to the kitchen. With supplies as scant as they were, she's had to make her own blend with tea bags and local herbs.] Hope you're fine with just black. Trying to ration sugar and milk.

[She stopped putting her trust in the gods' supplies weeks ago.

Black is fine. It's been a while since I've had tea.

[she spoke to Hope once and he did little to assure her that the local gods know what they're doing]

You left your daughter behind? (She presses her lips together angrily, but the emotion isn't directed at Sonya. Not in the least.) She must be adorable and...

She is safe. She won't remember your absence. I know that from experience after I returned home briefly.

I know that too, I was sent back home for a short while, then arrived last week. Like I hadn't left. It's just a weak consultation, that's all. Even miss Johnny, pain-in-the ass he can be.

[The comment on her daughter almost brought a smile.]I'd say so, but then I could also be biased given she's my daughter.

You are allowed to be biased! Only...

Do not spoil her too much. That will do her no favors. (Is she speaking from experience there too? Perhaps.)

My husband, an egotistical idiot with a bad case of running his mouth, but..deep down he has a good heart. Sometimes.

[She's not a romantic and they didn't exactly marry for love, but she'll give credit where credit's due.]

He's also fully taken it on bored to spoiling our child, unfortunately. She's had him around her thumb the moment she came out of me, I've just learned to accept it.

Sometimes? (That addition worries her and she glances over the other woman for signs of fear or abuse.)

Fathers can't exactly help it. Little girls are too precious for them to say no.

[She knows the look all too well] Don't worry, the worst he gets is his ego or image getting in the way of the bigger picture. He sometimes forgets there's a world outside of the movies, and things are actually more complicated in real life.

[she does afford herself a smile.] I'm just waiting till she reaches dating age and the flirtatious behavior he showed around me suddenly comes to bite him in the ass. I'll just be in the corner snickering at his reaction.

She will break his heart. (Sansa smiles sadly. Had her father felt that way?) Be gentle with him - if he deserves it - and guide her. If the boy she is flirting with is a danger, keep her from him. She will be furious, but it might save her life.

[She can't help but roll her eyes.] There's no 'guiding' Johnny Cage. It comes with having a thick skull and large mouth as his, you can't be subtle with him and expect it to stick.

Between having a mother in the armed forces-and a father who has a habit of punching opponents in the groin, frankly I'd feel more sorry for her future date. Well, almost.

I meant you should guide your daughter. (She smiles ironically.) Guiding your husband sounds like a lost cause.

Oh, dear...

[That's a lot to unpack, Rydia can't even imagine how hard it has to be knowing an infant child at home- she's already suffering for being without her family but for a mother to be separated from her child?]

Hi, my name is Rydia, there are two free beds in my apartment if you need some company. And... well, if it can come of any comfort I have been home for a while and no one noticed my absence, I think, nor time seemed to have passed for them, hopefully by the time we're granted a permanent trip to our homes your baby will still be in the cradle where you left her, safe.

I know, I was sent home..well, it was a short while, but back home it was some years.

[She sighed, wondering if she should've said in original video that she'd been sent back earlier. Of course, it was too late not.] Thank you, but I already offered the other room and someone accepted it. Would be rude to tell them I changed my mind. You're welcome to come over though.

Oh, I see... I am really sorry. Hopefully this time that won't be the case.

[That's all she can offer, hope, when no one really knows how the Door works and how their lives are actually affected by it.] It's okay, I'm just glad you found company. And... sure, why not? I could use some company myself.

One could only home. [She stopped putting expectations on this place weeks ago.

She normally doesn't open her home to strangers either, but it just made her realize how desperate she was for distractions. She gave her directions to her quarters.] I have room for one more, if you don't mind sharing.

That's something, at least.

[Rydia seems to consider it for a moment, humming on the other side of the phone, then sighs.] As inviting as it sounds and as lonely my apartment feed I do have a close friend living at the top of my apartment area and I want to stick around. That being said... maybe I could visit? And maybe spend some nights over if you don't mind? [She also feels like her place can get too silent at times.]

[The refusal's meant with indifference. There were a few who accepted and a number who just agreed to visit. Either way it meant a night not alone with her own thoughts, which was her intention.] Sure, just let me know beforehand. I have a spare room.

Sure and, well, a bed won't be necessary? I can just come with the blankets for home if the last room fills up. [Rydia wants company, she really does, but she can't leave Kain behind again.] When others sleep the whole building here is too silent. So... yeah, even if you wake up at night feel free to call me? [Let's admit it, she's the one who could use company too]

[ Elizabeth feels bad; as strange as being pulled here is, she's been treating it a bit like an adventure. She hadn't stopped to consider that others might be in Sonya's position of leaving those dear to them behind. ]

If you are still in need of company, my name is Elizabeth. I wouldn't mind staying over, Colonel Blade.

Lieutenant Colonel, actually [The correction came more from habit than anything.] One step below the rank of colonel.

[She says this as matter of fact, her mind really on other things.] If you don't mind sharing a bed, it's fine.

I'm sorry, Lieutenant Colonel! I had always read that the verbal address for your rank was simply "Colonel", I meant no offense.

Oh... no, I wouldn't mind that. It'll be like a sleepover, in a way!

[Lup's never been a mother, never had any close family outside of her twin brother for most of her life, but just the thought of someone leaving their two month old behind hurts in a way she's not completely familiar with.

It's been rougher. [She has to count herself lucky all things considered; atleast Cassie's father was still alive, atleast she was able to make sure her family's safe. It just happened that being away from them completely sucked.] Not the best of company now, but won't say no to it.

Yeah, I get that. Don't think anyone can blame you for that, sister. But if you wanna hang, we can go light up some monsters or drink the Speakeasy outta business.

That's low, even for these so called gods. I'm sorry, family is precious and you shouldn't have been separated from your little girl at such a tender age. But at least when you return, it'll be like it never happened. So you won't lose out on such an important time. [Tyki is honestly furious. She came here prime to feed the gods, separating a new mother from her daughter must be a feast of emotions for the filthy monsters that keep them in Hadriel.] That's probably not much in the way of comfort though. If you want some company still, I can bring over cards and some food.

Yeah, there's that atleast. [She says this with the same resignation as someone about to head into another day of combat; tired and unsure of the outcome, but knowing it has to be done.] Don't have much of an appetite, but appreciate the cards.

Of course. I have to warn you though, I'm an absolute beast at poker. [He's got his cards packed already, if nothing else he's always up for company and a game.]
