[Maketh doesn't look well, but she's putting forth a solid effort. She's got her hair up and a coat slung over her shoulder, half buttoned, to cover the mess of bandages. But her face is pale and strained. She's been injured and hasn't yet recovered.]

Hello, Hadriel. I hope you're all well, or at least -- recovering.

Recent events have made two things clear to me. First, that the gods will attempt to turn us against each other. And secondly, that they can influence our minds in ways far more direct that I had anticipated. A protocol must be created so this will not happen again.

[She takes a deep breath and winces.]

However, I don't have the proper training to make such a thing. So I am reaching out to everyone here. If you have ideas, I would like to hear them.

I suppose. Though I'm afraid Henry has beaten you to it. [It's nice to talk like this. It feels lighter, despite the topic.]

That's okay, I'm sure he won't mind the backup.

[It definitely is; he's been having a lot of really serious conversations lately, and it's a nice change of pace to be able to just sort of banter back and forth a bit.]

Do you uh, have everything you need at your place?

[He can't exactly offer to bring her anything, but he's pretty sure he could convince someone else to do so as a favor.]

No, I imagine not. He's not one to abandon a tactical advantage.

[Maketh grins a little to show she's kidding, despite the terminology.]

I wouldn't say no to some coffee.

Playing annoying fussy backup it is.

[A role he was born for. At the request he considers it a moment, thinking about who he might be able to talk into bringing Maketh coffee, but he'll figure it out.]

I'll see what I can do.

[Maybe Emily would like the opportunity to check up on Maketh while disguising it as a favor.]

You're hardly annoying.

[Maketh smiles a little.]

Obviously I'm like, not doing my job well enough then.

[It's said with a self-deprecating grin, clearly not serious.]

Yeah, no problem. Hopefully we'll get everyone on like, the same page about the whole coffee at the bar thing soon too.

[So it'll be easier for everyone to get good coffee reliably, but that can't happen until everyone at his house is both in agreement on their parts of the job and able to actually do it.

Chris also wonders, a little morbidly, if they might need to clean up the place a bit too or if Delight took care of it.]

I have the utmost confidence in you.

[She nods.]

That would be good for morale. It's small, but it's...something.

I won't disappoint.

[He nods.]

Yeah. I think we might end up being like, the worst baristas in the world, but hopefully everyone'll be forgiving.

[Maketh gives him a smile.]

I imagine they would. Especially with the alcohol so close at hand.

Ohman, that's true. No regulations on Irish coffee here either, I'm guessing.

[He may or may not have made Irish coffee several times as a teenager and passed it off as a cappuccino.]

Irish coffee? [Maketh grins.] If that's what I think it is, than likely not.

Probably. Coffee, whiskey, and cream or whipped cream or whatever else we can find that works; it's not too hard to make.

Oh, yes. It was called something else back home, but I know that drink. My mother was fond of it.

Good to know that mixing coffee and alcohol is like, universal even in different dimensions.

Apparently many traditions are. At least concerning alcohol.

[He laughs a little at that.]

Great, alcohol is like, a universal constant.

[Maketh grins.] As are the resulting hangovers, I fear.

There's gotta be like, aliens that don't get hangovers or something, right?

There are, but I've found they have their own ways of getting drunk. Some quite creative.

Yeah, that's uh... Not too surprising.

[Escapism is probably another universal thing.]

[Maketh nods.]

It does seem curious to me that so many of our worlds are -- not alike, per say, but perhaps comparable. I'd say the vast majority of individuals pulled here have been human. That might be significant.

I've noticed that too, yeah, and I mean like... Even a lot of people come from the same planet, sometimes even the same country. Enough people that it's weird if there's like, an infinite number of universes people could come from, that a lot of them are human and even from the same general world.

[Just... Different iterations of it, at different times. But that should be so incredibly unlikely that it's definitely worth thinking about.]

[Maketh nods thoughtfully.]

There must be some common factor that makes us a better food source. The gods claim that the Door acts randomly and without their control, but I don't think that's the case. Who they pick feels deliberate.

Maybe, yeah. And that it picks multiple people from some places is weird too; I mean, all but one of the eight of us that were on the mountain have shown up here at some point, and Mike did twice.

[That can't be coincidence. He isn't certain the gods do actually have any control over the Door, but he doesn't think it's random chance either.]

Exactly. Some of this may be random, but at least part of it is by design. There is an endgame.

[It frustrates the hell out of Maketh that she can't see what it is yet.]

Something beyond raising the rest of the gods, I mean. They mean to do something once they are united.
