There are a bunch of new people around, so...hey, I'm Nate.

[ It's been a while since he posted to the network, but things are starting to get sticky - and not even in the comparatively fun, sweaty jungle way - around these parts and tension feels like it's ramping higher. Crackling in the air. It makes the hairs on the back of his neck stand up. He's not in the city, as evidenced by the dense, green foliage at his back. His sketchbook is out, open, but he's talking with both his hands. ]

I realize we're kind of running the gauntlet right now in terms of what's being thrown at us, and we're basically getting ready for an inevitable showdown, and there are already a lot of efforts being made toward preparing.

[ Sonya - a woman he doesn't know - was proposing escape routes and manageable cover strategies for civilian types. It's a good idea to have those routes mapped sooner rather than later. ]

But I've spent a lot of time since we got here getting to know this landscape, the topography. What I'm looking for are people with actual combat experience, whether that's strategic, logistical, or something similar. Fight's gonna come to us whether we want it to or not, and weaponizing the environment is one of the best chances we have at mitigating the risks. Guerrilla warfare isn't pretty, but we have the resources for it.

[ For a moment he looks distracted, thinking of something, writing it down and talking over the act as he does so. ]

[She wrinkles her nose at that, nudging him with an elbow.]

That totally wasn't an answer.

[hardwearing]

You don't let me get away with anything anymore, have you noticed that?

[ He sighs, nudging her back. ]

It's not my favorite idea, no. At least it's not like either of us will be alone.

[evocation]

You'd think I was boring if I let you get away with stuff. If things get really bad we'll find each other, right?

[hardwearing]

Yeah. You guys would probably be holding a position within the city? Don't just wander out into the jungle, I'll fall back to you.

[evocation]

Okay. Just... don't get hurt, alright?

[hardwearing]

Hurt isn't really the part I'm scared of.

[evocation]

[She bites her lip, then links her arm with his.]

Are you afraid Epsilon's code won't work?

[hardwearing]

[ Wash nods, reaching over to settle a hand on Kyna's arm. ]

It'll work for awhile, but with how fast they adapt I'm afraid they'll get through without him around to keep updating it.

[evocation]

We should stick together then, right? Just in case?

[hardwearing]

I can't cower by you the whole time, Kyna. My HUD should give me a warning as each layer of the firewall is breached anyway. It'd be safer to just go without my armor, so they won't realize there's anything to hack...

[ He really wants his armor, though. Sigh. ]

[evocation]

It's not cowering, it's just... smart.

[Okay, maybe she just really wants him close by if the hacking is still a concern, but can he really blame her?]

How many layers are there?

[hardwearing]

It's comforting more than tactical. I still think I'd be more useful on the outer perimeter, in the jungle. I just wish there was a way for us to stay in contact, the network won't be safe and message doesn't reach far enough.

[ He's come a long way even mentioning that he'd rather Kyna have access to his mind than for things to be radio silent. As for the firewall? ]

Seven, right now. I haven't had anybody working on it since Epsilon left.

[evocation]

I bet Harlan knows something. Would that bug you? I mean, if we had to be mentally connected or something?

[hardwearing]

[ Alright, there's no point in bluffing. He's probably going to be uncomfortable, yeah. ]

...maybe? I don't know what it would feel like, message isn't bad. But it's better than the alternative, not knowing what's going on where you are.

[evocation]

I guess we'll see. But if you hate it, we don't have to do it.

[hardwearing]

Ask Harlan if he knows something that might work, and we can test it first.
