So I got a question.

[ He drags a hand down his face; he's tired and not entirely sure why he has to be the one to ask this. But apparently he has to be the one to ask this because he's worried and people should be informed.

But seriously, this is so far out of his comfort zone that we're in the Andromeda galaxy, so just... give him a second. He's not used to talking about this to the mass public. ]

How many of you've had something shitty from home show up here? [ .... Sigh. Okay. Too vague. Try again.

I mean monsters. Shit that does more than go bump in the night. Because if we all start bringing this kinda crap from where we come from, we're gonna have a problem and not nearly enough people are gonna know what to do with it. I mean, just counting what could come outta my own world-- [ grumble grumble. ]

So what I wanna know is if this's happened more than once. We already got enough here to keep track of, I just wanna know if anything that people know more about's followed you here.

All anyone could ask for, and even if no one's askin, at least it'd be there to give people a read.

I don't know much about the monsters that're actually living here yet- i'm working on finding out more about those guys, but I think we've already got a few things to start with. The fucking fireflies, for one. Wendigos for another.

Wendigos? [That's ... interesting.] Do you know if those are related to the incidents of cannibalism? Chris said something about cannibal monster spirits and the gods here giving people other people to eat not long ago.

I'm gonna go with a big fucking yes on this one- they've gotta be related.

Wendigo's-- [ Hm hm how to phrase... ] They used to be humans, but after getting a little too addicted to the mowing down on people, get turned into spirits. One's that're twice as into eating people. I mean, depending on who you ask the lore changes a bit back in my own world, but that's the main gist of the story.

[Yep, still as horrifying and disgusting as the first time Chris mentioned it.]

The lore originates in tales from some of the Native American Indian tribes, right? I read a case study on wendigo psychosis for a report when I was younger, I remember that part.

Right, yeah. Couldn't tell you which tribe tells what story, but I know they're all a little different. And back home they usually only hang out in a few different places- Minnesota mostly and then Canada.

They're an awfully long way from home if they're here ... though I guess you could say the same for the rest of us, too.

Which probably made 'em about as happy as any of us when we show up.

Seems like the obvious solution here is to stop bringing us all here.

Maybe that’s the ulterior motive. Piss off the monsters, make life more interesting for everyone.

I don't really get the impression that any of the so-called gods here have given enough forethought into the situation to have an ulterior motive.

What, you just think they're rolling the dice, seeing who pops up next? Waiting for a yahtzee?

It all seems a little too haphazard to be someone's master plan. I don't have any solid evidence, just a feeling - I know strategy when I see it, and this doesn't have any of the markers.

Oh, I wouldn't say that. You don't have to be a god to find delight in holding arbitrary control over a group of people.

I'd say that's an extremely human thing, in fact.

What, you never met a god that didn't just like fucking with people? [ Okay, well Gabriel's an angel but that's just kind of complicated. ]

I've only met one - the shinigami I mentioned earlier. It wasn't particularly interested in people, it just wanted something back that we had.

[And he knows of at least one more, though never met him. Still, he can't imagine that particular shinigami had anything good in mind when he dropped his notebook into the human world. People, though ...]

But you don't have to look very far to find people who think they're gods.

Course not, because people are idiots. Wouldn't know the meaning of real power if it punched 'em in the face. Which is fine because most people shouldn't have to, but the point still stands- people? Are idiots. And kinda weird.

Gods can be pretty predictable, all things considered.
